Guys, this is not the place to discuss the abundance of stickies. Please stay on topic.

Eh, text selection in Firefox has always been a little bugged for me. A lot of times, the highlighting will go totally out of whack, highlighting things it's not supposed to, or not erasing the highlight when I click elsewhere. I can't say it's ever gotten any more serious than that, though...

Heh, I'm glad this is finally playable in something other than a real CD-i.

I may have to use that parka'd Koopa for an ice level in the future. I'm sure practically everyone is going to, though. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE

Eh, I know "anything's possible with ASM," but something like that would take an incredible amount of work. SMW simply isn't set up to allow collision detection with layer 3 (no, tides don't count--that's not collision detection), especially at the single-tile level. Probably the easiest way to do it would be to either set up a pattern of custom sprites that follow the pattern of fish on layer 3 (most likely not enough sprite memory to do this), or set up some custom ASM that checks Mario's screen location and compares it to a set of values that, again, correspond with the fish pattern. The second method would likely be the easiest and most efficient way, but it still wouldn't be easy to implement. At all.

Sure I do. You cut off one column of pixels.

(seriously, it's not going to have any effect on the sprite's look)

I believe you need to read up on secondary entrances and exits. It sounds like you're simply exiting to another level the "standard" way, which will always place Mario at the beginning.

I hear "Xkeeper" spelled backwards always comes out as "DEATH". It defies all logic.

Bleh. I don't see anything wrong with bumping an old thread if you have some new information to add. What's the point in starting a new thread with a link to the original if the original is still open? It just clutters up the forum.

(re: the tables, I think the switch to Unicode or whatever several months ago trashed Blackhole's footer, since it cut off right where the first << symbol was supposed to be. I can only imagine how many old posts got screwed up as a result... )

Jeez. How many hacks have you started within the past month alone?

I'm sorry, but it's hard to get too excited about a hack that will most likely never be finished. Remember Wirtual Man? Pacman Adventure? Whatever happened to those? How much effort is going to be put into this new hack before another "brilliant idea" comes along, and the whole project is scrapped?

Slow down, pick a good theme/storyline (not something generic like "Super Mario World 5" ), and stick with it for a few months. THEN maybe I'll be more interested.

Actually, it's easier to remap all the blank sprites; I did it in SMO in a fairly short amount of time. There's even an extra blank 8x8 tile you can use, inside one of the water splashes. The Koopa heads use an entire 16x16 block, which is much harder to remap (graphics-wise, not hex-wise) than a single 8x8 tile.

I'll have to go through the ROM and find the blank sprite mappings again. It shouldn't take too long...

Block Tool is capable of relocating jumps to the correct location in the ROM after insertion ("Reloc Offsets"). For example, if a routine is at $0123 in your .BIN file, your JSR would be 20 23 01. You enter the location of this jump in the Reloc Offsets box, and Block Tool takes care of the rest, pointing it to the correct ROM address.

I hope that solves your problem...

Oh, okay, I think I understand now. LoROM banks are easy. In each bank:

$xx0000-$xx1FFF = first 8K of WRAM ($7E0000-$7E1FFF)
$xx2000-$xx7FFF = hardware registers and "reserved" addresses
$xx8000-$xxFFFF = ROM data

ROM data always starts at SNES $xx8000. To calculate LoROM addresses, you start with $008000 at the very beginning of the ROM (PC $000000, no header), and increment the bank by 1 after every $8000 (32K) bytes:

PC $000000-$007FFF = SNES $008000-$00FFFF
PC $008000-$00FFFF = SNES $018000-$01FFFF
PC $010000-$017FFF = SNES $028000-$02FFFF

etc.

I suggest you read this document. It explains SNES memory mapping far better than I ever could.

Hey, um, mind telling me what's so awesome about the title screen? Or levels made entirely of wood blocks and munchers, for that matter? All he did to make that title was move the existing letters around (badly...there's still a black line to the left of the W) and add a "5" from the star counter tiles. ANYONE can do that.

I have a feeling most of you guys missed Disch's little rant in ROM Hacking.
