My only real problem with the pics is the funky-colored status bar. I don't like seeing that in hacks, as it makes them seem less professional. I'm certain that could be avoided in nearly every case with a little color remapping.

I kinda like "Island Magic"...has a nice ring to it.

I was also thinking of some acronyms, like "YIPE" or "YIPPEE" (Yoshi's Island something something Editor), but couldn't think of any good words that start with the letter P...

I know! Just call it "KAMEK!!"

I prefer a little more substance to posts here, and less blatant site advertising. You could've at least posted some screenshots, SOMETHING other than plain text.

Posted on 05-29-04 03:19 PM, in Should FuSoYa port Lunar Magic to other OSes? Link
FuSoYa doesn't want to release the source, FuSoYa doesn't have to release the source. Plain and simple. It's his and he can do as he pleases with it, and this constant pestering of him to release it got old a long time ago. He's gone FAR above and beyond the call of duty in giving us as fully-featured an editor as he did, considering it was done in his free time, and he got NO compensation for it. Now, think about it--is it really fair to pester him for ANYTHING? How do you think he feels, being asked to give and give and give some more, without receiving anything in return, except maybe an occasional "thx Fu "?

No offense to FuSoYa, but Lunar Magic has had its day years in the sun. Its active development cycle has come and gone. I think it's high time this community started looking toward the future. Let's call Lunar Magic "finished" and start focusing on other things. For example, LM can't edit sprite mappings--what's stopping someone from making a separate program that does so? Why rely on FuSoYa to squeeze it into an already overpacked editor when there are other people with programming experience here that could make their own tool? We've found a ton of useful ROM addresses, why not code a little tool that offers descriptions of each and allows them to be changed via simple combo/text boxes?

This community has an incredible amount of untapped potential. We just need to open our eyes and realize that.

(...wow. That deviated ever so slightly from the original topic, but I think I still made some valid points.)

Well, at least this is his own topic, but that was still a large bump.

MarioMan, if nobody's replied to this in almost two weeks, it's probably safe to say we can't help you. Please don't bump a dead topic like this again.

Reloc Offsets only need to be used if you have JMPs or JSRs within your block code (for more complex, multi-function blocks). Block Inserter is capable of redirecting these jumps to point to the correct address after the block is inserted (since, obviously, a jump to $20F isn't going to point to the same location inside the ROM). A Reloc Offset simply points to the first byte of the address in a JSL/JMP instruction. Try examining the Reloc Offsets for some of the pre-made blocks to see how they work for yourself.

Hrm. At first glance, that looks like an arcade ROM label to me (MAME ROM files usually have names like spc-3.1k), but arcade ROMs really have nothing to do with Lunar Magic...

Generally, I don't like pestering FuSoYa about things, but I'm willing to make an exception in this case. PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEEEEASE give us a better clue!

JMP: Jump. Jumps to the specified address.
JSR: Jump to Subroutine. This pushes the address of the next instruction onto the stack and then jumps to the specified address. You can then use RTS (Return from Subroutine) to return to the address that was pushed onto the stack.
JSL: Just to Subroutine Long. Just like JSR, but uses a 24-bit address, allowing you to jump pretty much anywhere in ROM or RAM. Use RTL (Return from Subroutine Long) instead of RTS with this.

Yes, that was the "Nintendo Presents" logo. Yes, it was real. All I did was hack the routine that places the sprites on-screen to add a few more rows of my own custom sprites. And before anyone asks, no, this doesn't mean I can create my own enemies and items; there's no programming behind the "Nintendo Presents" sprites, they're just static images.

You'll never see me post a hoaxed screenshot, unless I clearly specify that it's fake. You may recall that orynider posted some hoaxed screens a while ago, and they got me pretty upset...

YES. That program has the best color reduction algorithm by FAR, at least out of all the programs I have. I consistently get a full, well-balanced palette out of it, whereas PSP likes to throw away and modify colors, since the optimized palettes it creates are 15-bit (at least in version 4.12; maybe later versions fixed this).

Basically, look for code that checks the controller flags to see if "Y" is being pressed. Change each occurrence until his tongue doesn't work anymore.

(I'd go into more detail, but I'm just a weeeeee bit far away from my home computer at the moment...)

I personally believe that harsh comments (NOT flames) are fine, but ONLY if you offer suggestions for improvement along with them. You can't tell someone their hack sucks and expect them to automatically know what's wrong with it...you have to point them in the right direction.

From now on, I'll be keeping an eye out for negative comments without accompanying suggestions, and taking action against them as necessary. Let's try to remain as helpful as possible here!

I don't EVER want to see a "worst x of all time" thread in here ever again. Nothing good ever comes of them, as this thread has clearly proven.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: let's remain positive and helpful, not negative and hurtful. It only drags the community down further.
