Hi everyone

I'm new. I enjoy playing games and talking about them. I hope to have a lot of fun discussions here!

Hi I'm a newbie (I introduced myself in the newbie forum). I don't know much about how to hack but I enjoy playing other people's hacks. I need help on something:

I keep trying to apply a patch to a rom but it won't work. I have a Mac OSX and my emulator is RockNES v.4. I'm using UIPS to try and patch Dahrk Diaz's Mario Adventure hack to a SMB3 rom. I have the Super Mario Bros 3 (U) (PRG 0).nes file and the Mario_Adventure_0.ips file. UIPS says the patch was applied successfully but it won't play in my emulator. Can anyone help?

I have tried to contact him last Friday, but I haven't received a reply so I was hoping that maybe someone else could help.

I've tried multiple SMB3 roms that I downloaded from various sources and I kept getting the same result -- a ROM that wouldn't play. I even tried to run the patched ROM(s) in another emulator -- Nester 7.1 for Dreamcast -- and it wouldn't load on that either.

I haven't had any problems running other hacks on RockNES or Nester. Ok Impala, you mentioned that it might be because I'm not able to use Lunar IPS? Is UIPS not as good? I got it from zophar.net and it was praised as the best for Macs.

I did try Mario Seasons in RockNES (another Dahrk Diaz hack) and it was only briefly playable... it froze after I made Mario jump.

I just really wanted to try out these games because they seem like a lot of fun from what I've read and seen from screenshots. Is there anything else I could be doing wrong?

SMB3DX should be much less troublesome. It doesn't do anything deemed illegal on the NES and should work 100% on all emulators and even on the real hardware.

Thanks. I also sent you an e-mail thanking you too.

I was wondering (as I also asked in the e-mail) if the ROMs will work on Nester for Dreamcast or PocketNES for GBA/NDS. Has anyone here tried it? PocketNES is great for ROMs on the go!

Yeah, it sucks how the GBA MP can only play ROMs under 256K. A few games like Kirby and the later Mega Man games won't play. At least you're saying Mario Seasons works on the GBA MP... I'll have to try that.

Good news: I finally got Mario Seasons to work in a new emulator I just downloaded -- Nestopia for Mac OSX. Unfortunately I still can't get Mario Adventure to work. If it works in my Dreamcast I'll be happy.

Oh, and I probably shouldn't be playing on emulators when I'm at work
