Hi all,
I'm a Mariokart addict, and I play the PAL version. Unfortunately there is no track editor available for PAL ROMs. (AFAIK Track Designer and mkedit will only work for NTSC ROMs)

So I am trying to figure out how to do it myself. Do you know of any docs that would help me ? It's ok if the docs are specific to the NTSC ROM, I'll work and convert the info to PAL.

At the moment, I'm looking for the offsets to the various tracks.

I have played a bit with Lunar Compress and its sniffer tool. This produced many data structures and I couldn't identify the tracks yet. I read that the tracks are RLE encoded. Does anyone know what tool I could use to decode the RLE stuff ?

Thanks guys : your ideas worked great !

> have you tried my mario kart r hack?

Yes. Actually your hack is what got me interested in this. The first time I played on the 1st race, I almost had a heart attack !! The gfx are AWESOME. (my favorite theme is Bubbly Clouds).

I'm not experienced with this, but I found this interesting page about rotozoomers ("a graphic effect that rotates and zooms into some picture.")

http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~horie/qbrotate.html

There's also a section about generating a sinetable, but this is nothing more than precalculating the sine of each integer degree angle, to speed up your code.

Are the previous releases of your debugger still available for download ?
Snes9x v1.43 runs extremely slowly on my machine, but v1.42 did fine, so I'd like to download the Mark 6, which was the last release based on v1.42

Posted on 03-28-05 02:07 PM, in Rom Hacker needed for BS Zelda 3 Link
This was posted by malcster (01-07-03 )

"The problem is, many of the BS games available right now are bad dumps. But because of the rarity of the original games, it's hard to verify what's good and what isn't. Apparently, Cowering (who makes the GoodSNES sets that many sites, including this one, serve) has got redumps of all of them, which are actually good + playable, so we just have to wait until the next GoodSNES for them to be included. In the meantime though, try Snes9x, (which is often compatible with slightly more ROMs, even if it is a little slower) if you have a specific BS game you'd like to play. Some, however, (such as the Zelda Kodai no Sekiban games) appear to be simply bad dumps."

------------------------------------------------

You guys could try to find it on Yahoo! JAPAN, it has to show up someday. Howerer the price might get an issue. Additionally the guys on the Cherryroms board may know what can be done to get a new dump.

Hi,
For a small ASM hack, I need temporary storage for my routine, maybe only 10 bytes. I'd like to find some unused space in the DP, so I could avoid storing all the accessed RAM locations first and restoring them afterwards.

How would you proceed to find some unused space ?
With Geiger's tracer I monitored the lowest range of the RAM to see what never changes, ... but I cannot test all the events in the game to see if they access those addresses. Similarly, if I set breakpoints on read/write access on those locations, I'd have to test the game thoroughfully to make sure it's really free for my use. Any suggestions ?

Thanks for your suggestions ! I used the first bytes of the DP, and I didn't need to to the popping/pushing to restore them. It was indeed some temporary stuff.
