Well, I just made mine. Profile checks to see if an e-mail address was specified, and if so, it calls email.php?id=$id as an image. Email.php uses a mysql_query to fetch the e-mail address and pass it into a variable. Then I use ImageCreate() to make the background, allocate the bg and text colors, fill the bg, and use ImageString() to print the e-mail address to the image.

The end result looks like this:

No e-mail address actually shows up anywhere in code. And if a user didn't specify an e-mail in their profile, it just shows up with my old txtgfx.php as

Now I just need to learn how to get the length of the e-mail address so that the bg isn't too large or too small. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with strlen and maybe count, but I dunno yet... Still learning.

Seems good. Kinda sucks that you have to hold CTRL and minimize, but still...

Thanks!

Frankly, I tink everything should be SQL-ized... Post Icons, Smilies, FAQ, and Version History. There\'s no real reason for them not to be.

So you're saying that the output adds extra <br> tags to everything? If that's the case, just follow the example of editprofile.php for user bios: When it's getting all the info that can be edited, there's a line that says sbr(1,$loguser[bio]);. Then, when a user clicks the button to edit their profile, before the bio field is input back into the DB, there's a line that says sbr(0,$bio);.

Also, in the mysql_query to update the DB, instead of just having it do UPDATE changelog SET change=$change, you should use UPDATE changelog SET change='".addslashes($change)."'.

I think that between them, the sbr and addslashes() should fix the problem...

Well, it has to go to index.php?action=markread&id=42, since that tells it what to do. Otherwise, it wouldn't actually mark the forum read. However, that part of index.php could be modified to be similar to when you make a post, so that instead of printing the index, it prints a note along the lines of, "Forum $forumname has been marked as read. Returning you to the index.", and then have it redirect you to index.php.

Hmm... I may mess with this on my board...

Similar to what Ice Man said, I always make SQL querys like this:
$narf=mysql_query("UPDATE table SET thing=$var") or exit(mysql_error());

If it doesn't exit with an error, then the problem isn't with the SQL query, but with the variables. Have you tried reversing the order, so that it starts with value=0 $checked1=[0]? I've noticed that sometimes PHP is anal and wants things in a specific order...

Multiple ways to do it, all easy, and a good idea. Don't exepct it to get implimented. As a matter of fact, expect a warning and/or ban for it...

You were just told how. Instead of typing :) and having it made into , type :<z>). Simple as that.

HA! Classic! xD

I remember the time when Acmlm, Darknight13, myself, and a few others hacked this assclown named Ikakeru's AcmlmBoard. We banned him, made everyone else admins, and created a php page that flooded his board with posts like, "my vagina is 358906 in. deep and has had Ikakeru's mom in it 38 times if i can get it to be 11541 more in. deep i think i can fit 612
Suraroks in it while shoving 32194 oranges in my ass". The script auto-refreshed, and we each had 5 or 6 windows open, running it. (That was my specific one, using &exp&, &level&, &expnext&, &numposts&, &rank&, and &lvllen& tags )

He kept unbanning himself, and we kept banning him. Good times. 'Twas real good times.

I gave contrast as a common example.
Get over it.
SamuraiX isn't the brightest person around, as you can see from his thread title alone.

Then, too, there's this thing called the FAQ that has this question in it: Are there any rules for post layouts?

Of course, it fails to mention not to use BMP files, and also fails to mention not to link to images on your own HDD, not to steal images by hotlinking to them instead of putting them on your own account, and to use @import for custom CSS files instead of <link rel>...

We can sum up all the bugs like so: AcmlmBoard v1.B0.

If they hadn't rushed to meet a deadline nobody cares about, then most of these bugs wouldn't be here. When Acmlm's not impressed with what you've done to his board, it's time to re-think your plans.

If you actually use the scrollbar, you need to get a post-1980 mouse. Middle wheel scrolling elimiates the need for scrollbars.

As for my layout, if the colors don't come up right, blame Setzer. He coded this layout, not me.

It seems the link colors are dependant upon the scheme you're using. I'm using Night, and I see links I post just fine, visited or not.

I'm not a CSS master, so I'll mention the colors thing to Setz.

Oh look! There's already a Maple Story thread!

Regardless, I can't play it anymore. It says my e-mail isn't validated, even though I have an e-mail from them saying it is.

The usage of <link rel> will bring the loading of a thread to a screaming halt if the server that the CSS file is hosted on goes down. The browser will halt everything as it waits for the server with the CSS file to timeout.

The usage of <style>@import url('path_to/css_file.css');</style> will allow the browser to continue loading everything in the page as it waits for the server with the CSS file to timeout. You'll almost never notice that the CSS file isn't loading until you get to the post with the layout without the CSS.

Posted on 10-05-05 01:39 AM, in Made A CSS File For My Layout... Link
Awhile back I asked if anyone would be willing to make a new layout for me. Setzer agreed, and this was the result.

Recently, HyperHacker mentioned that my links were the same color as my postbg, I said that they showed up fine to me, and it was concluded that the link colors are determined by the layout you're using.

That meant I needed a CSS file to control the colors in my layout. I asked Setz, but he said he only knows pure HTML. So I asked HyperHacker, but he didn't have the time. So I decided to say screw it, and attempt to make it myself...

The last time I made a CSS file, well, the results weren't that great...

This time, I think I did a lot better. I've set up my text, my blockquote, my HR, my LI, my links, and even the code tag:

This is how my blockquote ended up. Not too bad, I guess...

And this is an example of the <code> tag. I wanted it to look like an MS-DOS prompt.

Here's a fake link so you can see them when they're unvisited, and a real one to see them when they're visited.

The HR tag was originally the same color as the BG color outside the main post area, but when I tested it with the blockquote, it was the same color, so you couldn't see it.

Hmm... seems that the font color for the LI tag bleeds over into any text after it. Any ideas how to prevent that? I'm thinking probably set up a seperate thinger for it, then use a DIV tag for LI stuff...
