Well. that is good.

Your adding the other formats will help a ton. It's nice to see how many new utilities are coming out these days. There is a lot of work being done. maybe sometime soon nad-gob and I can get started on public-use screen-scroller pipes.

Posted on 03-13-05 12:26 AM, in Having problems with on/off custom block Link
Hey!

I was trying to make a custom block that turns the on/off flag on or off, but it is not working. I am trying to get it so that the block does not make a sound or do anything else.

This is the code for the on block, the one I am trying to work on right now

LDA #$1
STA $7E14AF
RTS

The offsets in blocktool are all -1 right now. I tried some other offsets use by the other on/off blocks in the blocktool database, but it always crashed either SMW or ZSNES when I did that. does anyone know what I am doing wrong/how I can fix it?

Hey, that looks pretty damned good!

Keep it up. I can't wait to try it, either. When will you release a demo?

This just proves ExGfx isn't needed for a hack to look nice.

about the world 2 shot, there is one section at the bottom of the right-most cliff that looks like you missed a small detail. is there a reason for that?

I haven't been able to find my floppy disk yet, but what is the GUI like? It might be nice to stage it like the tile selector used in the Chelsea code title screen editor. that way the GUI would be a little more generic, and easier for noobs to get used to.

OK. thankyou. I am sorry if I was being noobish, bu t I am a noob at SMW hacking in general. (at least I think i'm still qualified as a noob).

EDIT: I tried that. It crashed ZSNES. I'd better see what I screwed up this time.

EDIT2: The damn block seems to like messing up my Layer 1 and Layer 2 positioning GFX wise whenever I touch it, and crashed SMW. How do three lines of code do that?!

EDIT3: Gah! I give up. Stupid custom block...

I'll say this: The program works like a charm. Maybe as a future enhancement, could the ASMmed counters be moved/hidden? there must be a way to disable them, after all.

Hey!

I'm working on my hack, and I was wondering if anyone knew

1. how to display ONLY the hundreds and ones counters from the time

and

2. how to disable the bonus-point-giving routine that uses the time remaining.

Does anyone have an answer for either of those?

Crrently that is impossible. You'll have to wait, because someone is already working on sound editor for SMW. Jst hang tight.

Probably what you'd want to do is use something like tracer (I think) to find the ASM for that menu and change the 8x8 tiles used. Thats all I can think of.

Hey! It looks good! Your hack looks good. I'd try it, but I'm on my moms PC and not mine, so i'd probably get in trouble. I'll download ASAP, though. sounds great.

I disagree. With levels, overworld, graphics, text, and later music we have covered all the important bases. I'd say that SMW is now the most easily hackable game there ever was, but then there are games like DOOM where the source code was released and then they are therefore completely hackable... meh.

It's not hacking when you have the source though.

Only if you are trying to hck the program. Otherwise it could still be hacking beause you are hacking the visuals/sound.

I'll check that. I did compiler the code with x816 compiler from zophars. I'm not {no telling you his name, you can guess}.

By padding, what do you mean?

Ok. Thanks. I disabled the timer and have a little idea for what to use the counter for.

I was pretty sure is did. I will have another look to be sure. Knowing me, I compiled it into NES code.(I can't remember the number)

EDIT: No, it compiles into 65816.

The latter would be the RAM ddress for the health, I think. I looked at it in a hex editor by removing the 7E and checking. Looking at it with the 7E, the value was just 00.
