Hey, I'm currently finishing X-4000s rom hack Zelda 2 Challenge: The Shadow of Link and was wondering if someone could help me out with something. I am interested in changing the point values and the number of hit points enemies have and I can't seem to figure out a way to do it. Also, I want to change the locations of the battle spots and don't know how. Anyone know how I could go about doing any of this?

Alright, how would I run a cheat search? Any programs that could help me with this that you would recommend? I've already got a few hex editing tools but I don't know if they'll help. I'm new to this kind of thing and have been doing most of the editing using the Zelda 2 editor that was released some time back and even that has a few flaws in it. Anyway, thanks.

Alright, I've got it opened and the cheat search comes up with like over 10,000 search results. How do I get fewer results and how do I test the values to know I have the right one when I've found it.

Alright, I managed to get the hitpoint value for an enemy as a test but when I put into a break point nothing happens. It says it's supposed to jump at a line but it doesn't move at all.

A really good hack of any of the classic NES MegaMan games. Most of them just change the platforms and such, I have yet to find one where they do really big and good changes to the games. I also would like a good Zelda 2 & Zelda 3 hack that are completely changed.

Well, that sort of worked except for one problem. It gave me the hex value of the enemy's location rather than their hp.

Yeah, if you want the value I was using it was 00C5 and it was for blue gels in the overworld (just hit a weak enemy on grass.) I wish there was a guide, I wasn't able to find one.
Edit: Upon closer analysis I've noticed that it doesn't give me the point in the ram where it changes. When I try to read that line it says it's undefined and skips it. Interesting.
Edit 2: Alright after a lot of frustration, I finally am finding values the problem is that I have no way to control what the value is. There is no way to predict what values each hex value will bring.

The zelda 2 editor that's out does work it just requires an older computer to run it for some reason. Although it does have a few mistakes in it that I've noticed. In temples 3, 4, and 6 if you put in the sprite of the blue guy who throws hammers you get a red stalfos and vice versa. I would like a more detailed Zelda 2 editor honestly. Maybe I should talk to DWedit and see if he could help me a bit.

It's unfortunate that FF1 is basically the Origins version on easy mode. Although even FF Origins was a bit easier than the original NES version. I have no intention of buying it though. I got FF Origins and the NES version on my GBA, good enough for me.

Yeah, I wouldn't have minded the changes to the system but putting in on FF Origin's easy mode was just unacceptable to me. I wish I could get a version that had no changes from the original except it moved faster. Playing the NES version of FF1 is so frustrating when it comes to time. You use an attack all spell on 9 enemies you're sitting there for 5 minutes watching it hit each one.

A good hack of a good game doesn't necessarily have to exist. There are tons of really good games I have yet to find good hacks of, Zelda 3 being the biggest shock to me.

what difference does it make to you if this board gets new users? Isn't it kind of a good thing when it does considering it's saying the board is getting more popular?

I played the rom for about 5 minutes before I started swearing about how I hated Squaresoft for ruining the FF1 GBA release. I'm not really a big fan of the switch to the MP system either. The extra dungeons have nothing to do with the challenge I'm talking about. Everything has been put on it's easy mode setting from FF Origins. Characters start with some gear, magic/weapon/armor costs are down, enemies are weaker, etc. That's all that mattered to me.

If you want to make your own levels in Lolo, download the 2nd FDS Eggerland, it has construction mode in which you can make your own levels from scratch.

I prefer more detailed hacks but I'll take level only over graphic only any day. I'm really tired of finding graphic only MegaMan hacks.

yeah, the CG forums are up, any progress of Zelda 2C by myself and Zelda 3C by GameMkr are posted. However, GameMkr says that they've found a new server to use and CG games will be up soon enough.

Zelda Challenge and Mario Adventure should've been on that list. What is girls night out anyway? Never heard of that hack.
