| I can't provide a walkthrough. I haven't needed to mount an NTFS filesystem or a USB disk, and I don't know what options need to be used in your case. If you have used mount(I'm assuming that you have), most of the fields in /etc/fstab should be self explanitory. The mount(8) and fstab(5) manpages provide better explanations than I can. To access them, you can use the man command from the command line(eg. "man mount" and "man fstab"). |

| I think I know why you can't use a non-root account to read the NTFS filesystem. Open the mount manpage and scroll down to "Mount options for ntfs". Note the description for the umask option. For the NTFS filesystem try: "mount -t ntfs -o umask=666 /dev/hdb1 /mnt/ntfs". Then try to use it from a regular account. If that works, add the following line to /etc/fstab : /dev/hdb1 /mnt/ntfs ntfs auto,umask=666 0 0 As for the USB drive, I don't know what the problem is, but you can add the following to /etc/fstab : /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb vfat noauto 0 0 |

| I guess someone could get syndromes by preparing a bunch of comments offline over the course of a few days. After that, said person could start rapidly posting them along with ones written on the spot. Comments rendered irrelevant by discussion after the comment was prepared could be skipped, but it would be better for getting a syndrome to just touch them up a bit. | |||

| It looks like I'm stuck with dialup for the foreseeable future, and because I'm in a rural area and the POP is at an exchange serving a different city than the exchange that I'm using, the actual speed is slow. The CO is at least a 6 mile drive away, and there seems to be no plans to serve DSL from it. Cable? not for miles. On the bright side, I hear that the county plans to pave our road in a few months. I had access via LAN during the 2002-2003 academic year at the University of the Ozarks. The whole campus, four hundred something resident students, computer labs, web and e-mail servers, and administration, was all connected by one big Ethernet LAN and to the Internet by a single T1 line through a NAT firewall. |

| Actually, using a GBA to control robots is a very good idea. It is inexpensive, widely available, and easy to interface. Using bluetooth for speakers, OTOH, sounds like a dumb idea. Speakers require a non-trivial amount of power to operate, so there will need to be a cable that removes the portability advantage of bluetooth or batteries that need to be changed at great expense or recharged at great annoyance. Even if your scenario is fixed speakers used with a portable computer, avoiding plugging in a cable or two does not seem to justify the cost of the extra circuitry. Conclusion : Bluetooth speakers are the crazy idea, not controlling robots with a GBA. I'm reminded of John Dvoark's PC Magazine column(Vol. 17 No. 16 Sep 22, 1998 page 87) where he uses a monitor that keeps snacks warm as a hypothetical example of the tech press going crazy over an insane idea. |

| I had thought about starting a thread suggesting the same thing, but I forgot about it. I had registered on several other AcmlmBoards after the DB was wiped. At least once I thought I had incorrectly typed my password into the registration form, but I had typed it wrong in the login page. Requiring the current plaintext password to change the password will not add any real security. The plaintext password could be recovered from some forms, such as the new reply form, and used to change the password. I don't think that accounts should be ever be deleted. Even banned accounts that were created just for abuse. |

| Had paradox's AcmlmBoard request thread still been open when I saw it, I probably would have posted the download link as well as my mirror. On the other hand, I might have just thought about doing it. I wonder if anyone has thought about putting the download link in their layout or custom title. To go off on a tangent now, I had fun snooping around Acmlm's server when I first found out about it in an old thread in the AcmlmBoard Programming forum(pre crash). Not only did I find AcmlmBoard, I found a test board, ROMs(the directory is now hidden but still accessible), editors, music, file transfer logs, and other stuff. |

| A better idea would be to use a complete HTML validator and policy enforcer. This site uses regular expressions to filter submitted data. Regular expression filters can and sometimes do fail in ways that are not obvious to the person that creates them. All fields that accept HTML would be processed with an appropriate set of rules to prevent broken HTML and cookie theft. Layouts would need to be processed when they are first submitted and processed again with submitted posts. That is to prevent interactions between layouts and posts that result in broken or prohibited markup. My idea is not as easy, but it is more reliable. |

| NTSC and PAL are similar, but they are different enough to be incompatible. They use different frame rates and PAL encodes colors differently on every other scan line. | |||
