The tragedy of the commons (and certain other situations) is a legitimate reason for government intervention in certain cases... largely because investing in resource managament is a good policy for all parties involved. However, doing something merely because it's for "the common good" and not because it benefits the interested parties is never justifiable in my book, since it's tantamount to legislating a certain moral code.

Political science. But with a very broad general focus in philosophy, economics, and sociology... so watch what you say.

Thanks. I'll try to change that next time I update... I don't want to make too frivolous updates, though.

I remember that KT's hack had the frozen goombas you could bounce of, but Idunno if that's the same thing... I don't recall them being in a tower.

I tend to use Opera. Why? Two words: Mouse gestures. I don't believe Firefox has that functionality. The disadvantages, though, is that Opera is a memory hog and can be unstable. It also doesn't integrate well with some media formats. But I love my mouse gestures. |

Originally posted by Kratos Aurion To some extent, that's a valid criticism which hack makers should watch out for. However, it really doesn't look that bad, and when it does there are various tricks to get around it. For example, the only thing which looks that bad, imo, is the lava lotus.. possibly the chuck too, to some extent, but that's permissible. Simple solution: Put lava lotuses on those thin yellow platforms or whatever is in the YI tileset so they don't look so out of place. Works great. So while you may have a point, the vast majority of people don't think that the graphic styles are that incompatible. I don't. |

Alright, with the gestures extension, I can grant firefox another shot, but some things annoy me and I'm too lazy to figure them out at the moment: 1. Whenever you click a link on a page to go to a different page, and then hit "back", it goes to the top of the original page... not to the place you were looking at before you went to the second page. This annoys the hell out of me, since in long pages it means I'll have to scroll down every time I click a link. Help plz? 2. I hate how when you download a file, it doesn't ask you where you want to download it.. it just throws it straight on the desktop (or whatever directory.) I know you can specify a certain location with "save link as...", but that doesn't work with a lot of downloads. Help plz? |

Gratuitous SMAS graphic use... why? (I know Anikiti won't understand what I mean, but whatever..) It just bugs me. But it still looks good. I'm sure it'll end up great. |

Alright.. I beat the first couple worlds. I don't really plan on playing anymore.. it's not a very good hack. The level design is bland, there are lots of graphics problems, etc... But what I do give you credit for is probably having the most original "plot" for a hack I've ever seen that actually worked. The Dr. Mario thing worked very well, and it was fun to go "inside" patients or whatever, even if it looked like a bad acid trip. It was a good idea, and so the hack was engaging, but the gameply itself simply wasn't very good. A nice effort, though. A couple more notes: 1. Don't use so many old levels. We've already seen them, we don't need to see them again. 2. Don't make yellow-dot levels with two exits. That's just not right, man. |

So, is it true that Sweden's gonna pass a "man tax"? Does the EU approve of this? You crazy socialists.

No, I don't mean to troll this thread... my opinion is that the EU will become a global power, but there's no way it would become the global power. Also, since the EU's relationship with the USA isn't adversarious, how would this be "balancing" the U.S.? Would you guys provide troops for Iran in we invaded them or something? I kinda doubt it. |

It should only be if you believe in blind patriotism. Columbus did some pretty damn terrible things, and as such is by no means a praiseworthy character. However, if you abstract him into some mythical "ideal Columbus", then sure.. give him a holiday and make all the lies you want about him. Kinda like how they did with Jesus.

I was only aware of the "man tax" because a Swedish person at another forum said that the government was "seriously considering this". If he's incorrect, apologies. Of course. As Charles du Gaulle (I believe) said, "Nations don't have alliances, only interests." And as Thrasymacus said in Plato's Republic, "Justice is the advantage of the stronger." The United States technically represents the consensus of 50 states.. or, at least, the majoritarian will. I haven't read the EU Constitution closely enough to know, but I don't believe it has power of the military of individual states yet, does it? If the EU is really so interested in human rights, why was it opposed to the Iraq war? Was Saddam not a consistant violator of human rights? Is the fact that the United States was acting in its "own self-interest" such a terrible thing that we don't deserve help? Or perhaps the EU is more interested in letting the USA deal with its own mess than the welfare of the Iraqi people? Like it or not, the United States has created two democracies in the past 3 years.. sure, they're not the most functional democracies on Earth, but to imply that the EU is somehow the organization that will promote democracy and human rights (as opposed to the US) either means that you're talking about sometime in the future that's definately not a given, or that you're implying the words speak louder than actions. |
