Yea, I realize that that's the case. I've kept this up to date reasonably well, and as I do, it becomes more compelling for some mod to probably just sticky it. Even so, I know this thread gets a lot of views... which means that people probably look at it when it's at the top. That's why I bump it.. even if bumping isn't kosher, obviously this is a reasonable exception.

Oh, hi there LAOS. You should know me. I guess I'll give my advice, though... although I've fooled around with LM, I never really put any serious effort into a hack, largely because I don't want to get started on another huge project that I'll never finish. The learning curve on LM really isn't bad, though, so if you've already experimented with it, you should have a good idea on whether you have the energy to achieve your goals. You don't really know how to do ASM hacking to make a good hack. Sure, it doesn't hurt, but if you take all the time you'd spend learning to do neat stuff and devoted it to making awesome levels, you've invested your time in a much wiser manner. Granted, there are some ASM wizards who may make you jealous by doing some fucking awesome stuff, but... well, none of their hacks may ever be completed. *looks mournfully at BMF* If you really wanted to, you could probably recruit someone to do your ASM for you. The people here are really generous in offering assisstance, especially if your work looks worthwhile. |

I'm simply not well enough to focus on Super Mario Odyssey--or much of anything--at the moment. Okay.. good to hear. I've just been genuinely put off by the lack of news from the hacks I've really liked... you need to post some screens to show that you're alive, even if you haven't made any progress in a while. And Sendy too! And FPI. |

Cool. Maybe this will inspire people to actually ADD INFORMATION or suggest hacks to be added. Really now... see all those blank spaces under the GY hacks? Yea, I'm looking at you GY.

I would love to see lots of hacks with new sprites, and I hope that you're somewhat ashamed that you're only acting in your own self-interest. I mean, by your logic, FuSoYa should've never released Lunar Magic. |

I believe it would be insanely hard to make a sprite from scratch... so don't expect to see Kuribo's shoe, or Bloopers, or Boomerang Brothers, or whatever.... at least not for a long, long time. The best you can hope for is to edit some basic properties of sprites.. Keikonium listed a few, but many of them are sprite-specific as well: How high can winged goombas jump? How long should it take for a lava lotus to release its fireballs? How fast does the Hammer Brother throw his hammers? etc. etc.

How many exits do you have? I have the game saved with all the secrets done right before the final level, and it shows 55, I think.. so I just put 55 as the number, though it might be 56 or something if you include Bowser.

Awesome. I remember you saying you were discontinuing it, which was sad... but now that it's complete, I'll replay it and add it to the database.

Well, I think there are generally two types of custom graphics.. ripped ones and handmade ones. For handmade ones, such as the Sunnyside graphics, I think the creator definately has a legitimate claim in copyrighting his work. Ripped ones are more problematic, since the ripper didn't actually create the graphics.. he just ripped them, obviously. But even so, I think it's appropriate that one get the ripper's permission to use the ripped graphics... but I'm too tired at the moment to really create an argument for this sentiment.

Oh, it isn't there anymore? Damn.. I knew I should've hosted it myself.. I guess I'll try to fix that. Eventually. (edited by hhallahh on 09-01-04 05:46 PM) |

Just finished Lemmy's World.. having a lot of fun so far. The level design isn't too great or original, but it's still a lot of fun. There are a few annoying things, like places where you can't know the right path until you've taken the wrong one and died, etc.. those are generally bad form. One thing I'm very fond of, though, is that the secret exits are generally pretty well-placed.. when you feel smart for finding them, you know the creator has done a good job. The new graphics are quite neat, although the quality is often dubious. It's interesting to note that some graphics seem much better done than other (for example, the ghost graphics are really good), which gives the impression that you really improved while making the hack. It's a shame you didn't use new background (as opposed to palette-swapped ones), but oh well. And the overworld is really well done. Probably tied with DW:TLC for best I've ever seen.. it's not exceptional graphically, but it's very well-designed. [Edit] Wow.. lots of OW problems now. Boo. =\ And is the "Dark Land Moat" level supposed to lead nowhere when you beat it? There's a door after the exit, but Idunno how to get there.. and I can't use the Blue Switch palace, even though I used the patch version... I think, unless you didn't update it. Gr. Yes, SS would be desirable. Right now I'm playing Robomb's quest, and then I'll be playing Anitiki's hack, so more hacks will have to earn a spot on the quene. Show that yours looks nice.

I guess I might do the LM editing.. But the problem with the moat, then, would be that it's a yellow level.. but there are two exits? That's no good. Oh well. |

Umm.. it doesn't reveal anything. I already have most of the map revealed at that point, though.. but the castle is just a big black rectangle. And when I beat the moat, nothing happens. I guess I'll try to bypass that with LM too.. but my LM skills aren't that great, so I may have trouble. Oh well. |

Well, I did check in LM.. and it seems like it should work. Beating the moat triggers event 5F, and the next level's "reveal" code is 5F. It just doesn't seem to work, though.

The problem with reverse gravity would be that you wouldn't just need code that makes Mario stick to the ceiling, but you'd also need code that would make him jump and stuff correctly... it'd be incredibly complicated, and I don't think anyone's come near making a hack of that degree yet. |
