That act can be overpowered by the courts, as it contravenes the charter. In addition Section. 33 of the Canadian Charter, the Notwithstanding Clause, would allow that to be restricted. It's simply procedural showboating. At the time there was a majority parliament, and it was the Liberals under Chretien trying tos ay to the Bloc Quebecois "Look, we're in charge here. Be quiet". It failed...of course.

Like I said, Quebec can leave whenever it wants. Assuming the population votes in favour.

edit:: The Basque's have ALWAYS been oppressed. Not just because of "centralization"

And with that I declare this thread drift over and back to European issues.

Yes! It was immoral. Do you think they did it to stop the Holocaust? NO! They did it to bolster economy and to protect vested interests in the areas. If they did it to save the Jews perhaps our great nations wouldn't have turned them away and effectively sent them back into Germany.

Actually, CityGirl, "Just War" was limited at the Council of Trent and then gotten rid of during the Vatican II. And Jihad was initially an internalized concept relating to battling negative elements within one's own being and soul.

Read up on the FLQ crisis too!

And then read up on the Red River Rebellion.

And then read up on ALL THE OTHER REBELLIONS IN HISTORY

We know how it ends.

Unfortunately, those were open and bloody conflicts with more than just a government. I'd like to make mention though that if this does occur, if the parties in Parliament refuse to accept this and somehow put it down, Quebec has reached seccessionary rights. It can make a case utilizing the Supreme Court of Canada, which would rule in favour...Thus striking down your touted Clarity Act. Thus, it would seperate. Failing a Supreme Court ruling in its favour, it can declare itself seperate and withold its obligations that are set forward by the BNA of 1867, and its subsequent revisions. Plus, it can argue in favour using the Windsor Amendment and appeal to the British Crown and the Governor General to see for its case. If such a thing happens, and is denied it can use S. 33 of the Canadian Charter. It would therefore be a permanently succeeded state under Canadian law, and could build its own law that would make it permanent under international law due to self-recognition.

Besides, what the hell does any of this have to do with Terri Schiavo?

Well then, don't you see the problem of advocating government intervention into the matter? It was the government that caused the problem in the first place, by requiring pharmacies to retain such pharmacists. You see the issue?

Government forcing pharmacies to retain pharmacists who refuse to dispense birth control pills and government forcing pharmacists to dispense birth control pills.

Why don't we just get rid of the government's right to force pharmacies to retain such pharmacists, instead of also giving it the right to force pharmacists to dispense birth control pills?

But you're advocating for legislation...which must be passed by the government...To...limit the government...via the government...

Wow.

Actually, you'd have to look beyond the simplistic histories and understand that in that period there was an inherent problem. Although seen by most contemporary historians as a myth regarding Pope John, there was a problem inside of the other Diocese (Antioch, Rome, Constanstinople, Damscus, etc.). Basically, you'll not find it, but a woman effectively ascended the hierarchy and declared herself Pope. Of course, this is "hidden" Vatican information as it would be called heretical. I was speaking to a Dominican priest about Pope John who said that the name is effectively a blanket term referring to what was an early problem of women getting high up in the hierarchy.

Although there is debate that during the post-Schism Church there may have been female "mini-Popes". But many of these historical documents would've been destroyed.

I should've explained that better in the first place.

"it was only because of a mistake (and the Roman Catholic Church certainly got their collective knickers in a twist over the matter), one that they would have taken great pains to ensure did not happen again."

And when you say Roman Catholic Church, you have to take into account the Greek Rites, the Slavic Rites, the Eastern Rites, the Orthodox Church, the Egyptian Coptic Church and a few others that are seen by the Holy See as having Valid Eucharists.

In Canada it is hella easy to buy books in other languages, assuming you know where to go. I have (FINALLY!) got a copy of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and a copy of Water Margin. Of course, they're in traditional Chinese. Which is great, because I'm learning that language (still!). I have the Holy Bible in Latin. I have a copy in what is now called "Ancient Greek". Although, I must be honest, modern Greek is ugly. Ancient Greek is a gorgeous and musical language. I have a few books in French, as it is the second official language and I have a few really old family documents in Ukrainian, but be damned if you can find Cyrillic language books in Canada. I swear, you can find books written in hieroglyphs, but the minute you try to find any Cyrillic scripts like Russian or Ukrainian you're shit out of luck.

But yes, Kaioshin, beyond the devoted few, most languages are dying. But at least in Europe the languages are dying at a VERY slow rate...very slow. The languages most at risk for extinction are the aboriginal languages that were suppressed by conquering cultures. Prime examples are the native languages of North, Central and South America.

Ziff's exams were:

1 - Minimum 6 page front back single space essay on Women's Rights in Literature. Ziff wrote 12 pages on foolscap.

2 - 80 multiple choice questions for History exam. Plus one 5 paragraph essay on either Canadian economic ascendancy or Aboriginal culture problems.

3 - 20 page written exam for Law. 20 FUCKING PAGES IN 1 1/2 HOURS!

Ziff's grades going out were:

96 History
78 Law
88 History 2
32 Data Management
75 Classical Civilizations (Ancient Greek+Latin)
78 English
78 English Lit

Since my Data Management mark was declared erroneous and unecessary, Ziff exits high school with an A average. Ziff has received approx. 3000 in bursaries and scholarships for university.

It should also be mentioned that I was voted most likely to kill self. Most likely to kill someone else. Most likely to live alone. Most likely to rule the world. And most likely to be INfamous. I was also declared "most lonely at prom". But "biggest surprise in the looks category at prom". My name was misspelled over 8 times in the year book. ZWS, my initials, were constantly messed up. ZQS ZOS BVG were some of the examples of initials attached to my photo for what my name stood for. Also, they took out my quote "I wish I didn't live those four years, but boy am I glad I ignored them". I was also recommended to over 10 universities by my Classics and History teachers for being a "student of exceptional knowledge and endless ability...despite having a few problems" (EXACT WORDS ).

Overall, on a scale of 10, I'm giving myself a 25 when compared to all of you worthless buffoons...Mostly because I was voted most likely to kill myself.

Tame. Highly tame. I bought this movie after hearing all the hype and was very dissapointed. I practically fell asleep watching it. It WOULD have been good if the deaths were real. The human deaths anyway, the animal ones were all real.

Cannibal Ferox wasn't too great either. :/

As for me, I've built up my tolerance to the max. Nothing can possibly gross me out. It sucks really.

It does suck. After watching my second cousin hang himself, I really have become totally desensitized to every possible thing.

Leg: The only thing that bothered me was watching it at 4 in the morning alone and after a day of drug use.

Respect for the Armed Services, Leg!

My cousin finally got back from Kosovo! He kind of is missing a finger, but hell. He is happy to be home.

Lenophis, are you retarded? The Blue Man group is a collection of hired artists. In Toronto, they're not allowing the hired artists to be members of any of the locals! They're effectively contravening a century of Canadian heritage in respect to the theatre and the arts. When their act is effectively their music, and the act is attacking long standing traditions and hurting local workers then I have no reason to like their music.

As for Metallica h8ing. Metallica has sounded like shit for a decade. Eat it.
