American market collapse. Given the current trends of the gov't it is pretty much imminent.

But is enough being done with these new fuel sources? Fusion reactions are great! On a gigantic scale. It is too pricey to stick a fusion reactor into every car. The bigger movement that I'd like to see is something called 'public transportation'. Save the environment, lessen your wallet. Works both ways. Given the advent of cheaper, more efficient alt-fuels. We could see a complete change in transportation.

We have classic gaming forum, or their equivalncy. And they are f'in dead.

Final Fantasy, Mario...Activity? Bonjour? Activity. No pulse. He's dead Jim.

This will just be a waste of time. Board activity doesn't warrent. If there is to be compromise, then make a few "classic games" threads. You know, for the big ones. Mega Man, etc. Because you know. Adding a Mega Man forum is just brilliant!

400 vs 200. 200 wins.

Big graphics versus last generation graphics. Big graphics win.

Strong first party line up with innovative games vs. gigantic port and high quality game magnet. Tie

Right now, it's anyone's game. Europe isn't an integral market. In fact, it can be circumvented and a company can rely almost exclusively on either NA or Japan/Asia to do their sales. So, the lack of European saturation won't kill Sony. The lack of good titles is a non-issue. According to sources in Sony, the technical problems that were occuring in Jap. units are no longer major problems and have been ironed out in their near entirety. The only thing I can see hurting Sony is the POTENTIAL announcement of Nintendo based media for the DS and the GBA successor due this winter.

The death stretch is going to be the 2005 Christmas season. Do or die, final death for handheld supremacy is coming. And it is in less than a year. And both companies are going in absurdly strong. One running on fan-base in order to gain support, the other running in on not exactly unfounded hype. Until then, I'm going to refrain but will have to say my money is on Nintendo. The only thing that will help Sony is a large company trying to split the market. Even if a company releases a Zodiac or an N-Gage, but aims it at kids, offers half-decent content and keeps it in the necessary under $150 zone...Then we could see the market change.

But, hold your breath and wait for Kris Kringle, the patron saint of Odessa, or whatever you want to call him, to cast the final judgement on this battle.

Welcome to Megiddo, have fun.

Wait, you mean #3 out of the 3 markets that there are? Because Latin and South America have MILLION able to buy games regularly, as does Africa. About the only other market there is is Australia. And that is generally lumped in with Asia and or Europe.

OK! There is a problem with your thinking. I'm not one of the "X-Box" crowd. I rented all three systems and chose the X-Box. It has games that interest me as a gamer, and it doesn't have the shitty Gamecube controller that I want to bash against a small child's skull due to it's horrible lay out. The Gamecube has some of the crappiest, no THE crappiest online service since Nintendo 64 (SNES HAD BETTER ONLINE THAN THE GAMECUBE, FOR CHRISSAKE!) And guess what. I own two Gameboys, and am planning on getting a DS. You know why? I prefer the content on those systems to what has been announced on PSP, thus far. Yoshi's Touch 'n' Go and Castlevania DS are all I would need to live. And given that two new Pokemon games are coming out for it. I can hardly hold a candle to the PSP. I can hardly fart on it. There is ONE game that interests me on that. And that is Dark Stalkers (Vampire Chronicles or whatever they are calling it now).

"There isn't going to be a "next GameBoy" any time soon. Even Reggie said so. Not this E3, and probably not next E3 either. Nintendo will come out with lots of other shockers and surprises though. We just have to wait 54 more days to find out what they are. "

FYI - GBA 2 is coming out. A new reiteration, at Christmas Time. Speculation has been that this will be more heavily media enabled than the DS and may feature some sort of patching ability that will link the traditional Gameboy hardware with the new DS.

I remember when the X-Box was coming out. "OMG IT WILL FAIL!" screamed the drooling morons. I laughed and got the system anyways. There was no gamble. I understood something. Microsoft is a gigantic company. There is no way that a light weight like Nintendo can hurt them. The only competition that the X-Box has is the PS2. And the war between those systems is going splendid with Microsoft's brute beating the PS2 on it's head and starting to really climb up. And remember, this is Microsoft's first time out. Let's look at Sony. It now has over a decade of experience with systems and marketing. Nintendo has over a century. But that is not concentrated on the electronics market. (back to Sony) I'm pretty sure that the PSP and the DS will be in direct competition for what has become the most important chunk of the videogame market. 18-30. Disposable income. No real life goals. Come on. What the hell else can they do? Now, PSP will have the upper hand here. So, the battle lines are being drawn right now. This is all out business war. Nintendo has EVERYONE up to 12. And they have to fiercely protect their business there by making "hipper" commercials with a darker tinge matching the younger generation's wish to be mature. Now, the really nagging question is who will eat up the middle market. (12-18). This is the REAL fight. With the DS having a competitive price point, it has grabbed the lower half of that demographic. But the PSP has the upper echelons of age in its grasp. Looking from that perspective, the buying power of the older people will amount to something that will prompt Nintendo to literally build a handheld for kids. That is their only secure market. God help them if Sony can move forward into that. More $$$ > Tried and true company.

Now, the battery dilemma. The North American units are rumoured to have a different architecture to their Japanese counterparts. Just better built is all, really. And apparently the batteries they have jammed into the PSP for NA has a lil' more longevity than the Jap. model. Now, if Sony can be a badass and toss down a DS length battery, I would probably change my mind on that. I would think Sony would have complete domination if that were the case. Fyxe, the batteries are now built into the systems and are recharging sorts. It is in the best interest of the company to get the consumer to buy their system. And if their system is going to slump because of shitacular batteries, then guess what. That company will have to withdraw and concede defeat until the next generation round.

As I've said before, there is only one consistent risk in this game for Nintendo. And that is the eating up of the youth gamers. And the same goes for Sony, but with mature gamers. I'm not saying this is the case (though there has apparently been some new bankrolling for more hardware projects at Microsoft...) but if MS or another large company can get a muscle bound handheld that will split the market, that will decide the victor. If MS decides to market to the kiddos, then if they have more NA themed content, then a contest or an arms race will break out and Nintendo will lose a good deal of market share and will crash like bizzinitch because they've lost the upper ages. But if MS or another company decides to hop the knob of the 18+ crowd, then Sony's fKitten Yiffer is imminent and Nintendo win's this round.

If it's not, then consider the relative cheapness of the average PS2 in used form in most gaming stores nowadays, and the fact that you can get Kingdom Hearts almost as cheap proportionate to its original price.

I fail to see what's wrong with RPGs, particularly this one, since it's not really so much an RPG as it is an action game.

What 160 dollars? Why would I pay for that when there is only about 4 titles I want for the damned brick?

RPGs are generally boring and too drawn out to give me incentive to continue. If I want an indepth story line that is intelligent and amusing. I'll read a book. At least THOSE I can generally finish before getting pisses off at stupid plot twists ala FF7. The ONLY reason that Kingdom Hearts piques my interest is because it is an interesting hybrid title with already well loved characters that don't make me want to take a small, rusty knife and jab it into my testes.

Alright, before the drool drips onto your bibs. I'm going to imbibe upon you a lovely piece of information. Money is God in business. If something is pushed with an effective ad campaign, people will swoon. It stands regardless. The MINUTE Nintendo is weakened in the handheld market with increased competition (mobile phone games are starting to eat away at it) then Nintendo will need to rethink it's strategies. People don't care about quality, they care about trendery. And guess what the goddamned PSP appeals to. Trendwhores with money. Not spoiled little teenage brats who have never had to work a day in their life who want to relive their spoiled little childhood. It is appealing to the rich, the affluent and the hip and trendy. The DS, which I by far prefer, doesn't have that sort of influence. It holds kids, trve gamers and people along that lines. Even today, on the CBC, they made mention of the PSP over the DS. Whoever garners more funds will get more attention. Exposure and attention is what is going to win this fight. And this is a BIG fight.

Characters? HA! No one gives a SHIT about name brand characters in the open market. People want Gran Turismo. People want generic snowboarder number 3. They want big budget games with no names. The game quality doesn't even have to be good. Look at the shitty sports games that are SHOVELLED onto the market. Guess what sells better. NFL 2kShit or Nintendo's name brand character game. NFL 2kSuckmynuts will sell better. And it is more economical too, it is cheaper and quicker to pump that game out. Sony will be purchasing stake with these games and will have an upperhand in this battle.

The battle will be developed and won at Christmas time. That is it.

Colleen: Always worry about the new hardware. Nintendo fanatics seem to love to talk about how "OMGCREAM MY PANTS EVOLTRUTON IS DS BOOD GOOD BLAG BLAHL AFGS~!!!!!!". Yet, when it comes to putting sense into the matter. No one does. The deathknell is at the hands of who can't move systems at a profit and gain the most money.

Scatterheart: No they won't get sick of these games. You know why? Because you are a moron and probably don't know what is on the X-Box. You know what's on it? Games. Games that every other fucking system has. Your absolute idiocy towards the truth that advertising will win people over is depressing.

Unfortunately, this board suffers from "unrealism" where you folk assume that everyone is thinking the same, retarded, fan-boy based ideas. No, they aren't. There are about a few hundred thousand of you world wide. Guess how many people are being drawn in by the big $$$ ads and the big $$$ trends. More than you. And given that the hardcore gamer crowd is mostly kids living in their basement that subscribe to fanboyism...Well, that means that more money is flowing into the real competitors. Not Nintendo. People like Penny-Arcade have realized the truth. Swallow your stupid pride and realize the terrible truth.

I'm sick and tired of hearing conservative BS being spewed at me from my teachers. OMG. THEY SHOULD ALL DIE! THEIR VIEW POINTS ARE TOTAL PROPOGANDA! The second part of that was a joke. The first part is not. I put up with teachers telling me that since my family isn't well to do we should be allowed to live in squalor. That since my family came from a region that was seen as "savage" during the first part of the last century it was all right for the Canadian government to do what it did. I have to put up with teachers telling me that my beliefs are wrong. I have to put up with teachers making insuations about my friends religions and their sexual preferences being wrong. I have to put with teachers calling abortion murder. Daily. And yet I don't complain. I bear it stoically realizing that they are indeed showing me their beliefs and I refute them if it comes to discussion.

Of course, accepting things requires maturity. In class, we're given discussion periods in order to let our views out in the open and talk with our teachers and hone real world skills. You know, like dealing with people with differing view points. Something that I do off board exceedingly well.

Edit:: Anyways, the thread title is kind of not fitting to what the discussion is going to become. I hereby change it to "Beliefs and the school"

I care, because as a gamer, I feel that the more the companies fight and "compete" to pull in prices that the integrity of the games can fall if this happens in totality. Fighting games are becoming a fast dying specie. MK: Deception, and what I'm recognizing now as a lacklustre Soul Calibur 2 have been the only big budget big sales fighting games that have been made. It is sad that that is a casuality. I'm afraid that FPS are going the same route.

It doesn't matter though, this is my point. Nitendo makes one slip, and it will fall. It doesn't have the leverage it used to. Either the treading is careful and methodical, or we have to live in a world without Kirby. And that is a world not worth living in.

You know what has kept Apple alive? Diversification. Nintendo has it's cards and is hoping that the next card will be the one that wins them the game. Otherwise they lose. Besides, Apple has ALWAYS sold relatively well. They sell high cost "high quality" products and are bought by many businesses.

I'm saying Nintendo is going to die over night. I'll make an assertion like that come Christmas time. All of my "doom saying" isn't unfounded. There are definite problems with Nintendo. And I'm afraid it will make a mistake. It's two current competitors can't be challenged easily and are basically fighting each other over the next generation consoles and ignoring Nintendo. This is Nintendo's chance to break away and not make the mistakes it made on the 64 and GC. The company better've learned it's lesson on connectivty, too The death of Nintendo is going to be slow and painful.
