Hey there, new to these forums but you folks seem to know what you are doing.

I'm attempting to create a MMORPG, it has been a big dream of mine to put a story I have been writing for years into game function. so here is my main question.

What would you guys reccomend as a good MMORPG engine... preferebly free or cracked... I mean I don't exactly have much cash to shell out... some of the ones that would be neat to have (but I'm not sure supports MMO) are listed below

+Explore-RPG - Seems like a good engine... but hard to host...
+RPG Maker XP - I heard a rumor this has MMO capability, and I've loved the the RPG maker scripting system (so damn user friendly)
+RPG Maker 5 - Probabbly not MMO, but a 3d RPG engine would be sweet..

I'm currently using DIMCE, a lack luster engine that was spawned using the Mirage source code and based off of Playerworlds (R.I.P.), unfortunatly DIMCE has a horrible scripting system that doesn't allow complexity like books, specific NPC placement, Conversations, or even signs for that matter...

If anyone does help me find a good program (preferebly with the user friendlyness of RPG Maker), I'll try to make them a moderator once the game begins.

Another quick question is. Obviously hosting an MMORPG is difficult on your home computer, even DIMCE lags if I do ANYTHING else...so I was wondering what alternatives there were to easily host a game. If worst comes to worst I'll simply build a crummy computer out of old parts and use it as a host.

Thanks for your help everyone -Max

I tried goofing around with it.... it has to do with having an item's abliity call a switch that triggers the creation of a new party member.... I never got it to work right.... so I dunno....

I've never quite thought of this idea but it happened after two things...

1. Playing Dragon Seed for the PS1
2. My friend saying "Wouldn't it be cool to have tiny robots that fought each other?"

Although "Chibi Robo" is already something another friend of mine is working on (cool 3d action game like Unreal but set inside massive arena like kitchens and such, since you are only 3 inches tall...) I would like to see a Pocket Monster rip off of the same theme. Having a tiny robot that your character can modify, have an inxtensive building menu (meaning the program should probabbly support custom GUI's) and the ability to trade with other people...

I dunno... just a interesting idea... just curious if there was an engine that was designed for, or can easily create this system.... online play would always be a plus..

I use Phylomortis.com for all my RPGMker 2k3 and 2k resources. I don't reccomend playing his game though.... Phylomortis is for those who study Latin dictionaries....

lol actually I'm just a starting out abstract artist.

I started using digital programs to create abstract pieces that invoke emotion and satisfaction in me... I don't got much, and it'll probabbly cause a few "WTF!!!!11"'s but that's part of being an abstract artist...

Lots of flash....

Or you could do it the hard way and make a LOT of character movement commands... like I used to do...

Well there are critics.... if there weren't art wouldn't be fun. I ask you since when does the amount of effort put into it have to apply to whether or not it is art. I base my works off of the modern fine arts of today. Sure they may be simplistic, but it is the abstract that causes thought. For instance "VII" is a representation of how clean and perfect we all attempt to be. Though you may deny it, you are always striving to be better than your fellow man.

I guess I shouldn't have posted my artsy fartsy stuff in a gaming forum.. oh well serves me right... ciao
