'Eye candy' is really one of the only things you can determine from screenshots. Yet this game has none and I have read nothing that makes this hack seem interesting or fun.

So what the hell? Why is it being recieved so well? The screenshots are mediocre and we can't tell other things such as level design until we get an actual demo. From what I've seen through screenshots and the tidbits that Schwa has told us, I can't see anything that makes this hack good at all. Yet everyone says it's awesome.

It's not like a game without original graphics will automatically have better level design and game play...

I just don't get it.

Well, I did it again. I made a hack with a lot of potential and stuff I was going to do with it but as it turns out got bored and stopped. As you can see, you play a goomba instead of Mario and you have short levels with a very small amount of time instead of long levels with lots of time. There is no overworld. And yes, there are more than 3 levels. I just wanted to show that the counter actually changes.

Damn it. I forgot the link to the demo. I can't believe I did that...

Don't underestimate my impulsiveness. When I pick a random word and decide to make a hack about it, I pick a random word and decide to make a random hack about it, dang it!

No, I'm not trying to cause trouble. I just haven't seen or read anything in this hack that looks even the least bit impressive, yet everyone's going on about it like it's Super Mario Odyssey! I just honestly want to know why everyone's saying this hack is so great, because I just don't see it.

And tell me, how many Mario levels have you played that aren't 'run, run, run'?

But yeah, I didn't do much with it. I just got bored and decided to make, well, a Mariostrocity.

Yeah, it could use a lot of improvement. This was more of a boredom thing then something I'd be willing to improve on.

2) ...WTF?
3) Not bad. The green block doesn't fit in well though.

No one will ever figure out how I implemented the score bar. Never ever.

Wait, I forgot to lock the hack...

Will this do? If so, do I get bonus points? I guess not...

Anyway, the buggy version couldn't be too bad otherwise Blackhole's computer wouldn't survive the release. As long as there's some way to load the file, I would like to download this music editor as soon as possible.

I would like to clarify something. Schwa, your hack may be good. Your hack may be great. But with no original graphics or neat level designs viewable through the screenshots, we don't have nearly enough evidence to support that. It's not whether or not your hack is bad I have a problem with, it's whether or not we have enough from the screenshots to support that. And I don't think we do.

Wait, we also have to realize that Glyph has a computer with Windows Millenium Edition on it. That's probably why he wants the editor no matter what state it's in; his computer already so bad that he wouldn't be able to tell the difference. As a former user of Windows ME, I can see it from Glyph's point of view. Of course, no one else wants that so, as I stated before, take your time blackhole.

Not true, I have two computers. One has Windows 98 and the other Windows ME. As you can see, this reinforces your point completely.

I made this a thread for ROM addresses only because I don't know a single opcode of ASM and I'm not experienced enough to make my own custom blocks... That way I wouldn't have to wade through tons of stuff I didn't understand in the least to get to something I was skilled enough to use. That, and we have that script someone made that lets you input addresses.

On another note, those powerup addresses are really useful! If I ever go back to Super Mario Illiad, I think I'll get rid of the fire flower and make the fire flower into the nunchuck powerup...

Sarcasm or not, Trasher, my computers are pretty much like that. It took tons of different cleaning tools just to get one of them to shut down without crashing... And they've both been almost wiped out by messed up programs before. And many programs don't work right on either. And my floppy disk drive only works half of the time...

By HyperHacker:

Change address 0x74E2 to 0x80 to prevent the game from giving you a powerup when you hit the midway point.

Update:

Atma, you fool! Changing value 103F to 60 does bad things to the item reserve counter! Very bad things! Are you trying to sabotage us all? Are you?

But seriously, change it to 50 otherwise your item reserve counter won't work right.

Meh, what's it going to do? Kill my computer again? I figure that if I run the same program the same way more than once, it might not crash at least one of the times. If not, hey, it's not like it wasn't going to fall apart eventually.

The ground in the first screenshot is rather poor... You probably should have just left it as it is. Mario's house looks excellent. The speech bubble is nice in theory, but I tried them in Super Mario Oddysey and they're kinda stupid to use. But I suppose it would be a pain to change it...

The waterfall near the top of the overworld is nice, but the one below is rather ugly. I think you could make it look nicer if you got rid of the animated waves in favor of a solid blue tile. And that smoke coming from the castle is just weird. I'll probably play this hack and come up with a real review sometime...

In MarioWorldReconfigurer, change the 'poof of smoke' option to 'fall straight down' and make it fall straight down when you jump on it. It isn't strictly squishable like real Goombas, but it should do. That, and you can always give a shelless koopa goomba ExGfx... Meh, I suppose I don't have a solid solution here. But those are good alternatives.

No. It's not an opportunity. Tiles can only be flipped using the regular engine and the other water tiles are stored elsewhere, like under the regular FG1 tiles.
