It looks like there's a bigger following than I thought for 2 player hacks.

All the more reason to scrap my hack; it had crummy 2P support. Here's a lesson for you kids: an asm-hacked 4-power special ability system that rotates with L and R may sound impressive, especially when you build good levels around it, but when it comes down to the overall game it wasn't balanced. Kyouji Craw helped me see that when he tested it.

So, if you want an unlocked copy of a rom with that hack, or want to talk to the person who convinced me it wasn't worth still working on, well, I suppose there's Kyouji.

Way to fly off the handle. I would have expected this behavior from Kyouji, or me, or one of the other losers around here, but not you. For shame, BMF. For shame.

What's not remarkable about a fish version of James Bond?

But he wasn't a mascot at all. He was in 3 games, but not directly developed by SEGA. (Four if you count Aquatic Games, five if you count his cameo in Rolo.)

While the first one had pretty funny spoofs the gameplay wasn't good. The gimmicks in the second one weren't cool, and while okay gameplay-wise it wasn't terribly special.

And then came the third. Do you know what my layout is from? From James Pond III. I recommend it to all of you. Over 100 levels of moon, cheese, and fish madness. With excellent atmosphere, Kyouji can back me up on that. Enjoy.

But Trashy, I have hijacked your thread with Pond-related antics. So in exchange I give you Project MALLOW. Crap-tacular.

Oh, wait. You already did that one. Well, I got nothing else.

BMF, my blobby acquaintance, you're going about this all wrong. SMW does deserve better, true, true. But instead of making this forum, this active forum, better, you went and started a new one. Even if you were to get as many people over there as here the same problems would start up again the moment you took your eyes off the place.

Take a breather and think for a moment. Here is better than there because this forum has people and experience, even if you're a ladder-rung or two higher over there. Take what we have here and build a Lunar Utopia. Get yourself more access to the board. People on the higher up should listen to you because you're BMF. That's like people on the higher up not listening to Fu. They won't because Fu's Fu, and they won't because you're BMF.

I know that forum was created in the best of intentions: to create a stable SMW hacking community. But, what about this one? Do it here. It's that simple. It took forever just to round up good members, and even if you actually manage to do that elsewhere, it'll turn into a second here. That's all there is to it.

You mod a board with people, quite a few being knowledgeable people. That's hard to get, you know. You'd throw that away to start a new community because of a few n00bs? To quote a certain someone, "...doesn't that seem a bit, I dunno, excessive?"

I use Opera, and it looks like you didn't close an end tag or something because your table starts eating all the other tables down the thread.

Not that the problem's necessarily end tag related, it just looks exactly like you forgot one and all the other posts are becoming a part of your table.

I don't want to give a screenshot since it's the same ol' tag madness that you usually see when tables are eaten by some other table, and it starts occuring right under your "does this mess something up?" part of your layout, ironically.

ZTiamat, one of the things I wanted to free up was plot by sticking with Mario the whole time. I wanted to put a plot in the game and to tailor to mario, but since my plot kinda sucked anyway, I'm tossing the hack out. Too many problems, not enough balance, just... not good.

I'm curious... how much room could you actually save by axeing the 2P mode? I'm skeptical.

Well, it's just, I'd like to find the little places where 2player mode used RAM and where 2player code executed and change the code and memory entirely without the game messing up when you went 2-player.

Most of them are actually used. I happen to know that the first "Empty" block is used by the overworld for events, and nobody knows what's going on over in Bank 7F. I get the feeling that "one 00 in the middle" part may have something to do with finished levels.

I'd delete the first Empty from the memory map, but 'edit' doesn't seem to work for me.

Either just trial-and-error, or, of course, deleting places where the game used existing addresses. Y'know, like if one were to carve out 2-player support from SMW, then you'd have all those addresses guaranteed not to be used.

Which was my original point.

That's THREE colors + transparency.

And yeah, those colored koopas aren't good. Either make the eyes transparent, cheat a little, or something.

I think this NES thing would make for an interesting single level gimmick, but not for an entire hack.

And you're not the first to go for a SMW-NES thing.

Don't worry, mvent2, when you've got major problems like that vivid ugly background in the viny castle and status bar problems abound, people asking for a demo will be in short supply.

Now, now. Civility's good and all (not that I'd know) but a heart-rending farewell does not an Aioria make.

I personally have fireworks ready for the day Shyguy goes.

It's nothing personal, Shyguy. It just so happens that incredible idiocy is one of my pet peeves.

And as for that last comment, WTF? Just... WTF?

I blame Snika. Someone would have gotten Legion some Gatorade or something if Snika hadn't interrupted with his Seinfeld-related nonsense, which clearly nobody was talking about until he showed up.

This is madness, I say. MADNESS!

BMF made a thoughtless comment about death?

Kyouji caught him on it?

It's just plain stupid to think that ExGFX are overused while original GFX are not. It is.

ExGFX is a system that allows you to put new graphics in your games. By leaving the old graphics in, which plenty of hacks already do, you're saying that he's avoiding monotony? What is the matter with you?

As for the hack, it does look rather boring. "Awakening" isn't in the same font as "Mario's", the blue item box tiles around the edges look ugly, and instead of giving us the damn play-by-play on your band lesson, post actual information. Or at least funny uninformation.

Also, move that constellation in the special world closer to the center.

You've got to be fucking kidding me.

Zachio, don't make posts until you know what you're doing. Tiles are loaded and flipped to form the words, it does not work like that.

It's been discussed time after time...

Here and
here.

And both of you are too dense to figure it out? See, this is why I'm openly hostile. Things like this. Because there are people out there who cannot take one look around and think before they post.
