Why not just make it a water level and make graphics that look like Mario's underwater? That's how they did it in SMB.

No way. Lava doesn't work right when upside-down and without up and down shooting Podobos it wouldn't be as cool.

I was referring to how water levels in SMB are just regular levels with Mario's physics changed slightly and different graphics... Mario can't actually jump out of the water or interact with it, so all you'd have to do is set the water level flag on and change the top of the water to 25. You'd still have that annoying "bump" sound when Mario hits the top, but in SMB you could never leave the water and so if in the SMW rendition of SMB you can't leave the water either it shouldn't be a problem.

TK's point is even more pressing than difficulty... better a player has to play an entire level over again than never being able to play the beginning again.

Of course, innovative level design can rule out the need for a midway point or the need to remove one... like if there is a way through the castle the long way and a way through the castle the short way and you can only go through the short way if you have the midway point gotten... this could be achived using 1-way blocks or simply steep 1-way pitfalls.

Disagree on that all you like, never being able to replay the beginning is still annoying as hell. If you keep the midway bar you should find a way (I listed two above) to let Mario play the level regularly.

Way to pick an arbitrary number for your amount of beta testers, jerk. Did it ever occur to you that more qualified people who know what they're talking about and how to find some of the more hidden glitches of a SMW hack might post later, or that you probably won't even reach a total of 20 people? 10 beta testing both, maybe.

It's just... the fact that you'd pick testers based on some random number (because it's a multiple of 10, probably) rather than seeing who would be qualified and such is just annoying.

5.61? Argh... that's terrible. Are you using a .BMP, or is your image huge for some reason, or what? You need to change your image to .gif or .png or something if it's not already, and if for some reason it's really effing bit you need to fix that as well.

That's huge... don't upload the whole level. That's not a screenshot, it'd be terrible to load, and nobody wants to see the entire level until they play it anyway.

While the subject of LM errors is still up...

Fu, are you aware that LM does not emulate gray falling platforms correctly? I changed the graphics and in ZSNES I got a totally different tile combination than in LM.

Don't use a contrasting dark BG color with a light bg like in level 2, don't make screenshots of things that aren't changed at all from SMW like the bonus levels, don't put pipes on an x-shaped box like that with rounded corners, and if you ever try to imply screenshots are dirty like that again I'll kill you.

And maybe Shyguy too while I'm at it... that old gif he used to have was so freaking stupid, and if I'm going on a whole "Kill the stupid obscene comedians" rampage I might as well kill two jerks with one stone.

For my latest hack, I will have levels and I will have more difficult versions of those levels in grayscale. I'll label them "Machine Made" because of the way in SMRPG harder versions of enemies have "Machine Made" as their name.

I'm disappointed in you, HH. Here are a bunch of posts regarding problems somebody had in LM and you're suggesting that changing the thread title and ignoring them is a good idea? Since it's a new topic... then wouldn't it make sense... to make a new topic?

That'd be stupid. Smallhacker has a program that would probably be better at finding this data and repointing the tiles if you're talking about that, and if you're talking about changing the graphics themelves you can do that with just a tile editor and LM.

Edit: At the cost of whatever else uses those tiles, of course...
