I want to completely disable Mario's ability to fly in the simplest way possible. I want the cape to remain, just without Mario's abiity to fly after running for a long period of time.

I'd also like to know how to disable Mario's ability to fall slowly while having a cape, but that is a less pressing concern for my hack.

Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks, mikeyK. I went and gave Mario nunchucks.

If you ever find the byte that disables the floating also, that'd be cool.

These screenshots actually are kinda convincing. Mario's face even has a pallete problem similar to those in SMW.

I disagree. I would rather have a buggy, half-working release right now then wait for a few stacks to be reorganized or a few crashes eliminated. Probably if he were releasing it to the general public it would be best to work these out, but this is Acmlm's board... a board centered around hacking software. I think everyone here has encountered enough crashed emulators here to handle a buggy Solar Soundtrack release. But that's just me.

So a complaint is the main reason someone wouldn't want to release their software in the works? Or the chance that it might mess up a hack, even without the fact that there is such a thing as a backup?

I was just stating that I'd rather have the buggy software now then have to wait longer for a few simple glitches to be worked out. Anyone who's hacked anything has had to work with buggy programs before. But that's just a preference, and I said that already.

I think both borders look good. You have a very nice use of colors in the plant border here; they look good for 8 colors but you only had four to work with. The black border doesn't work well with the "Keikonium" logo, and I think that without the black border it looks more professional.

Hey. So that's why my emulator crashed upon usage of sprite FF. Which also means that copying sprite code wasn't the problem for me; overflowing tables were. I am going to hack SMW just that much more with this newly aquired knowledge.

I could have used that in the readme more than the "l33t ascii", HyperHacker.

Posted on 02-19-05 01:02 PM, in Mario Euphoria Link
Does anyone here use Euphoria?

I've been working on this crazy Mario game that was going to be this advance wars like strategy game where you'd take a side with characters and troops, except they'd be Mario characters. In a situation like this, where leadership skills are involved, Princess Peach's abilities might take on a whole new meaning.

But I never figured that I'd be able to do this easily, and very much doubted I'd ever get anywhere. And I was right. I was really just playing around. And now I'm bored with the idea and have decided to go with something different.

Now, it's in such stupidly early stages that I can make a huge change in plans like this and I would hardly have to change any code at all. So right now any suggestions could be easily implemented. About anything, really. Because I haven't even decided what I'm going to try to do, let alone know what I'm doing.

It's basically just a colored console script that opens up two windows, one for units and one for enemies. And has one of those menus that asks whether you want to start or load an old game and all that. Although I haven't made the loading or saving parts. And while that obviously isn't much, I'm experienced enough with this kind of stuff that I could easily make it into something. But I don't know what. Or why. But the very fact that it exists at all is rather neat.

So, I guess this idea is really open. Any suggestions?

Posted on 02-20-05 05:16 AM, in where can i find rabbit ears for mario and extract them over to lunar magic graphics file Link
I don't think it's a bad idea as you people think. Your biggest problem would be keeping the ears to stay on Mario's head instead off flopping around like a cape. And then all you'd have to do is find the byte that you need to disable cape flipping and you're set. MikeyK already told me how to disable flight, and it's just one byte(see disabling cape flight, the topic, below.)

If you found a way to make the rabbit ears work while flopping around like a cape and found the cape attack byte, a simple graphics change would be all you needed. But yeah, if this guy doesn't have the aptitude to use Lunar Magic he probably doesn't have the aptitude to use a hex editor.

Super Mario Illiad. What can I say about Super Mario Illiad? Well, this is a short one level demo where you get nunchucks. That's what I can say about Super Mario Illiad. At least, this demo.

Edit: And yes, I'm aware of the way it's spelled. It's just like that. Because.

I know, screens and bug testing would be nice. But this is just some random demo. A random demo where you get nunchucks instead of a cape and the graphics are funky. It was just craziness. I mean, the name was a rip off of BMF's hack and I purposely spelled it wrong. I could rip screenshots, but I'd have to transfer them from computer to computer and change it to .gif or .png format and all.... and I'm not going to do that until I get a more stable release. This is just craziness.

I happen to back up my rom each and every time I make a major change, thank you very much. Kill all you like, nonexistant early release Solar Soundtrack, I have plenty more roms where that came from.

But don't tell the RIAA.

I really want to edit the graphics for the platform Iggy and Larry and co. battle you on, but I don't know how. I probably wouldn't even ask if I didn't know it was possible; MikeyK used it in his latest hack. But how?

You guys should know the drill by now; no editors I have are capable of displaying and editing the graphics correctly.

If this requires extensive knowledge of ASM, nevermind then... I don't even have basic knowledge of ASM. But this is a question worth asking.

Dang. I wish I knew that existed earlier... Anyway, if it's not too late to say so, Smallhacker did an awesome job on that editor. Now all we need is an easy editor for the graphics part and SMW will be that much closer to be completely point-and-click editable.

If he can't get it released by anytime near then, then he probably shouldn't give an estimated release date. (Affected by Nintendo Release Date +++!) But still, he never said it was certain to come out at any time, so meh. Let's just hope it comes out soon. Because we're all waiting for it.

I agree with Skateboarder11. I'm only 14 and I gave Mario nunchucks in the last released hack. Not to mention the fact that I now have edited bosses in it and created an entirely new plotline, and did countless graphic edits. And used Mario World Reconfigurer to give the enemies different abilities. While some people much older can't seem to figure out basic stuff. And I'm sure people younger than I have done much better hacks as well. In short, yeah, age != hacking ability.

As for the screenshots, the first is bland. The only thing you really did here was change the ground. You made very nice use of exgfx in the second screen, though. From what I can see, anyway. I have dial-up and I'm really not going to bother downloading any more than the very bottom row.
