Yeah, but all threads are like that. Except for the ones that are locked immediately. What are you gonna do, huh?

But it's not a useful program. It's not a useful program in the least. Anybody who can't figure out how to use a hex editor most likely can't use Lemeetal's one function that a hex editor doesn't have, its data file, but once you know how to use a hex editor you can edit data more easily than with the file anyway.

It's useless. No one has come up with any rational reason why it's not. And I simply pointed that out. Sure, I wasn't nice about it, but this program is just simply a fKitten Yiffer that, as it is, can't do any good for anybody.

But if this is the way things are going to be, then this place is a waste of my time.

Having a film on layer three for the entire game would be really annoying. Do what I did in this hack and only do it for the title screen.

That's actually pretty clever. Brilliant, even. I might use that in my hack if mvent2 doesn't.

I need some subroutine space. I plan on JSLing to a blank space for my latest hack, but I'm not sure which spaces in the Lunar Magic edited SMW rom are safe to use.

I'd say that glitches were the biggest problem in the first part of the saga. Glitches suck. If you hadn't rushed and instead taken your time and released a finished hack Ninji Saga 1 would have been far more awesome than it was. Rushing your finished hack seemed to create problems in level design, create more glitches, and all kinds of crap. Keep that in mind.

Sorry about that one, guys. I'm the one who posted that stupid RAM address way back when I didn't know what a RAM address actually was. I was planning on replacing it with the ROM address, but I never found out where that address was.

While that sprite looks really awesome when on a black background, I can't help but wonder if this is going to just feel like Mario was replaced by two oddly placed sprites. It'd be nice if the physics were changed so it would feel more like two Ninji rather than one weird-looking sprite, but seeing as how changing the gravity and such of the two ninji would affect the singular ninji as well I don't know how you'd go about doing that.

I mean, I can just see these two awkward sprites running along like big Mario and that's not what you want to end up with.

Keep it short and memorable. None of this Super Luigi Quest Worlds 1.4 crap. If you absolutely can't think of a name just take "Luigi" and affix something stupid to the end of it. Like Luigistrocity.

I don't get why you guys like the mushrooms. They don't look good. Especially the text bubble.

Pretty much all ripped graphics except the poorly paletted brown bush screenshot (which the clouds do help a little) look really great.

Now here's my big suggestion: Change the checkerboard floor. For the top checkerboard looks fine, but when it runs all the way down like that it looks pretty bad. You know what would look really nifty? If the checkerboard floor looked like... welll... Lemme ascii something up for you...

BWBWBWBWB
WBWBWBWBW
B B B B B B

Y'know, sorta like the bottom breaks up and disappears so you're standing on a floating floor. That way it doesn't repeat through half of the screen.

Okay, so I'm not actually for hire and I'm not even that good at ASM hacking, but I'm taking requests. If you've ever wanted your hack to have Mario lose all his coins instead of losing a life or a specially made custom block, now would be the time to ask.

Even if I can't help you, if the problem has a simple solution somebody who knows how might. Just keep in mind that I'm not guaranteeing any actual progress.

I didn't want it to fade into black, I wanted the checkerboard pattern to start incorporating transparent tiles into... Gah. I'm going to have to make a picture, aren't I?

Pretend teal is the background and that the checkerboard pattern looks remotely like the one in the screenshot.

The reason I picked "lose all coins instead of lives" is because it's one of the easiest ASM hacks ever.

********************

Break out your hex editor.

At offset x52D8 you should see the numbers CE, BE.

Change them to 9C, BF.

Tada. Mario loses all his coins instead of losing a life.

********************

As for the SMB3 brick thing, I might look into it. If my natural laziness doesn't take over.

@mikepjr: Ah, but I had an even better solution. With my little disclaimer up, I don't actually have to actually make any progress.

Just so you guys know, I'm not going to do any of those item box hacks. Those suck. The item doesn't actually blink and fall down for you to catch, like mushrooms, flowers, or feathers. They just fall from the sky and often get stuck on various obstacles.

The gravestones would look nice if they didn't have text on them. As are most of the things that remain from the old version.

As for the rest, you lose.

Star world is just a slight edit.

Nobody likes a road with nothing on it.

The graveyard background is unnatural and the sky is ugly.

I meant to say that the gravestones were the only new things that looked nice. And they don't even look that nice because of the awkward fine text printed across them. What passes for an epitaph these days?

That sounds like a really awesome block, UD. Well, most of it. The earthquake routine and the sprite destruction. It shouldn't be that hard, either, I think... would simply clearing the sprite data table do the job?

But first I'd have to know where the earthquake routine is located and what parts of the sprite data table are okay to edit... I'm not sure about how the Mario sprite fits into all this. Not to mention the fact that there might be nasty effects when you delete a sprite while areas in RAM regarding it are still active. Not sure about this either.

I like the new font and the background changes. But are you ever going to fix the trees in that second BG? Because that is and always was the worst looking part of it.
