I think it has to do with the palettes you use. I think you can only use 4 and 6 and one other palette. I used 3 and it blinks every time you use an event and finally goes black at the end, just like you described

I'm fairily new to Lunar Magic, so I can't really say which palletes you can use or why, but I think those palletes may be used by the game during events to hold alpha blending information so they're not valid as overworld colors.

But this is all just speculation because of when and where they happen -- I don't know why, really.

I like the Shy Guy on stilts idea. Any overalled idiot can stomp a goomba, but it takes skill to do it on stilts.

I think the problem with hacks that have ripped graphics is that you're distributing them to the romhacking crowd. In order to hack a rom you might have to, I don't know, know a little bit about games.

If I already know where the graphics came from and have seen them before, they aren't nearly as interesting to me as hand-drawn graphics are.

But rips can look better than hand-drawn graphics while being less work. It's kind of hard to find excuses not to take the lazy way out and grab a couple of graphics from your favorite game.

I guess ripping could also be considered bad because you're taking stuff an artist's already created to make your own work.

But if you're hacking SMW in the first place, are you not ripping from a game already?

I can't bump my old screenshot thread because I posted last, and I wanted people to know that I now have a demo available for download, so I made a new thread.

The IPS file is zipped here:

Demo

Here is a list of things that are missing from the demo:

----------
Koopa Casino. You can't go anywhere once you get here, and have to go back to the level you were in last.

Bowser and Iggy's images in the "Meanwhile..." cinema. I just didn't add them because that would be a lot of work.

The Blue Switch Palace you need in order to open that door in the level "Volcano Road Block".

A lot of polish. I haven't gotten to changing some of the graphics I would like to yet.
----------

The demo ends after the Bridge of Spikes level.

Please report all glitches you may find.

Well, I guess FuSoYa's the only one who can help you now. If a search of your computer doesn't turn up the hack(Because files can be accidentally moved very easily), I'd say you're in real trouble.

Judging by the way you said that you were just working on your hack and came back to it to find it missing without the recyling bin emptied and all makes me wonder...

Is there anyone near you who would want your hack deleted?

Sorry about all the errors you may find in this version... Just now I noticed that if you go through the volcano road block, you die instantly because you enter a boss battle riding Yoshi. I added the boss battle at the last moment, before I had tested it...

The worst part is that you need yoshi to get to the exit, yet if you enter the exit you die. I really dropped the ball on this one. Instant death errors are like the worst kind, save for crash errors.

I should have tested this hack more....

So, because it's a lot of work re-IPSing and transferring via floppy to my internet computer and re-uploading, I will tell you all this...

DO NOT TAKE YOSHI DOWN THE GREEN PIPE IN "VOLCANO ROAD BLOCK"!

That is all.

Edit: Oh, wait, that is not all, I forgot to thank Chris for the link to my old thread. I should have done that from the beginning.

Okay, correction. I don't care that Nintendo cares about rom hacking. And you probably don't much either or else you wouldn't be here. And, most likely, neither does anyone reading this post.

If a rom hacker finds out about someone stealing their graphics or hack or such, they just might take the time to point that out if it's in a forum and get that person banned or something. Yet if we banned everyone here who stole graphics or material from Nintendo, the forum would almost certainly collapse upon itself. (Being a rom hacking forum as it is.)

So I guess the reason using Nintendo material rather than a single hacker's material is different is because Nintendo isn't here to complain that their work has been stolen.

Ha ha, Nintendo. Sucks to be you.

Y'know, he kind of does... I think it's the fact that the headband is blue that makes me see the resemblance. But head-banded anime characters with wild hair are a dime a dozen.

And this has got to be one of the most pointless things I have ever pointed out, but I wonder why you used the name "Netto" from Rockman.exe instead of "Lan", yet you used the english title of "Megaman Battle Network".

Okay, now I'll switch gears and talk about the mario hack itself. I think it looks out of place in the settings, and I will agree with the others when I say he needs shading.

He looks like a neat character as he is, but I think if you changed the backgrounds and FG and yoshi and all he would look excellent in a place made of the same art style.

When you release this "Lengendary Hero" hack, I'll give it a download.

This is insane. How can you people hack a game and then be offended when someone hacks yours? And Kyouji Craw, you're offended by what someone else wrote? Do you read your own posts?

If someone can unlock your hack, deal with it. You can't stop them. It's not like we won't know if some lamer goes and rips your work. And as Squash Monster said, if they do such a good job that you can no longer tell that it's yours, then they're probably talented enough to steal your work anyway.

If you get offended by someone using base material to make a better piece of work, then I guess SMO was a waste of BMF's time, wasn't it?

And how you can defend yourself by saying that you're only one person and Nintendo is a company is perplexing. It is still a matter of stealing original work, is it not?

And there are hack walkthroughs, I don't understand how someone can make that argument while being an active memberr of this forum. And even if there aren't formal walkthroughs, you can always ask someone who's beaten the game for help.

The fact that some people can believe that this tool is going to cause so many problems boggles the mind. And on the subject of secrets, someone's bound to figure them out and spill the beans unless you designed the secret so poorly that no one will ever find it.

I, for one, am going to use this tool to hack SMO sometime in the future and use it as a learning tool. And the only way anyone can really stop me is by asking nicely, correct? Even if I were to steal from it, there's not much anyone can do about that either. And if I choose to go ahead anyway even if BMF didn't want me to, well, sucks to be him. There's not really anything that he can do about it. (This is an example, if BMF asks me not to unlock it I won't. And I certainly don't plan to steal from it.)

Even if Parasyte were to suddenly change his mind and recall this tool, it's not like hacks won't be hacked. In conclusion, stop whining, ya hypocrites.

Yes. Do you? Because at no point did I state it offended me; I just said he's wrong about me being an elitist.

You were offended. You even told him to take it down because you were so offended.

I would like to make it clear that from that point on this post was no longer directed at Kyouji Craw, but at no one in particular. Just people who were making these arguments in general.

Name a hack other than Demo World that has a walkthrough.
I can't. But that's still a walkthrough. Perhaps I should have phrased it as a singular noun instead of plural.

And that's exactly what I have in mind - I want people to have fun playing around, and when someone finds it they can tell everyone and it'll be cool, but, if someone cheats to find it and then tells everyone, it ruins the point =/

I don't see your logic here. So it's uncool if someone finds it by cheating, but if someone hears it from someone else it's cool? And people can cheat easily enough without this tool, this is just one more resource.

Oh and glyph, learn yourself some reading comprehension Me getting angry != me being offended. He angered my by twisting my words for his own purposes, but it wasn't particularly offensive.

To be angered and to be offensive are, or if not they practically are, synonymous. And I must agree, many of your posts are quite laughable.

The only things I hope you change for this hack is the Boom-booms, who get really old after fighting them after every level in Mario Adventure and I hope the level design is as good as Mario Adventure. You can have the best ASM hacks known to mankind, but you have to have good level design or it's not worth it.

Oh, and did I mention that this hack makes my eyes burn with its glory?

Of course it's fake. If someone was going to hack ASM so completely they would have better luck starting over instead of using SMW to make something like this. Either Squash Monster has posted in the wrong forum or this is all one big joke.

And then there's the EVEN MORE OBVIOUS thing about this screenshot: The resolution is wrong. A SNES can't produce an image at that resolution.

Unless, against all odds, this is a bunch of screens put together, Squash Monster took the time to hack the entire screen into 3D and still use the SMW rom, and this is even a SMW hack.

Either it's a fake or it's not a SMW hack.

Very l33t. I'm not a fan of the way some games give you nasty enemies but no weapon, though. I'm the kind of player who likes to clear the whole room out of enemies and take my time exploring. Or, if I have limited time, I like to pick the straightest path and plow through whatever enemies I may face. But without a weapon I can't do that.

But the treasure stuff, on the other hand, sounds interesting. As is the concept of using steep terrain to defeat the dire bat. When a demo is available I'll certainly give it a try.

First, it's DW:TLC. And second, TLC wasn't that great. It had a couple neat ASM hacks (Scrolling pipes, anyone?) and good use of graphics, however ripped. It may be a good hack, but SMO is already superior. Better ideas, better levels, and better ASM hacks. Although it could use the scrolling pipes.
