I guess I'll get it from you on AIM, like with the nonstop megamix? If so, I'll be logged on with the same username as before It sounds like it's not too easy, but it'd still be fun to give it a try.

Now, as for scores, none to show today, seeing as I got stuck in the downstairs room of my friend's house last night watching him play some Splinter Cell game for ~7 hours I got a bit of a chance to play it (StepMania) this morning though, and managed to get an "B" on Murmur Twins (I believe that's what it's called), and an "A" on Holic, both by Toph.

I also gave 20000000000 (there may be a few extra zeros there) a try upon getting home, which I found to be quite difficult, before noticing it was on 3.0 / 3.x (my mind's just gone blank as to which it is, but it's the modifier that makes the arrows appear farther apart or closer together). That would be due to my brother not turning off those options before closing the program. I don't see why he uses them anyway, seeing as he only plays the game to listen to and mess with the music speed

I can't remember why now, but I never bothered to play through the whole thing, but I'll try to tonight, and hopefully have a decent score to show tomorrow

I'd actually have to choose two in this case, but for the sake of narrowing it down to one, I'll say "Semi-Real". The other choice I would've made is "Real-Time". As for explanations of my choices, here they are:

Semi-Real

:: The only game I own that has this sort of battle system is Tales of Symphonia, just to clear that up. I like it more than Turn Based battles and such because the battles seem much more exciting when you're given a good deal of freedom to perform various actions without being restricted to doing one or two things before the enemy gets a chance to attack. I thought I'd have more to say on this style than the above, but I was wrong

Real-Time

:: My favorite game that has this type of battle system is Secret of Mana. I do own Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, which has that sort of battle system as well, and although I don't know exactly why, I find it to be horribly boring I like this sort of battle system as well, because you're given pretty much all the freedom you need in terms of being able to run away for a bit, attacking the enemy with everything you've got, and other such things.

Now, just because I left the other ones out doesn't mean I don't really like them. Turn based is alright, although, as has been stated, that's more based around strategy and planning your turns ahead of time (for those that haven't had a chance to play it, Megaman X: Command Mission actually shows who will be attacking all 8 turns after the current one ). Given that, most of the time I play a game like that, I just keep choosing the "attack" option each turn

So for now, Semi-Real is my favorite, although that's subject to change if I find a game with a different battle style that I like more

As for the thread discussion, I found my last free issue of Nintendo Power in the mailbox today, and although I haven't yet had a chance to look at it, there's a thing on the cover that says that they've included a 20 page (that might be the wrong number) "article" on Nintendogs. I'm going to look at that when I get home, and then possibly go up to EB Games to buy it. The only things that are keeping me from saying "I'm getting it as soon as possible are the fact that I've never really been interested in simulation games like this up until now, and that I don't want to look and feel like a fool talking to my DS

When it comes to Advance Wars DS, I tried playing the first one for GBA quite a while ago, and although I can't remember much about what it was like, it didn't seem all that much fun It can't hurt to take a look at this game though, so maybe I'll do that in a bit

As things stand now though, I'm thinking about getting Nintendogs, and still have to take a look at Advance Wars DS. Time will tell what happens

Around 5:00 on each Friday of the week, I delete what stuff's been downloaded from Ares Lite, so as to keep the folder size down, but as for the rest of the week, people are free to download what I've downloaded from others, so in that respect you could say I do share Right now, 5 people have finished downloading a file from me (and possibly others). 4 of those 5 all got the same thing too. Dumb and Dumberer

When it comes to BitTorrent, I either leave it uploading for one day, regardless of whether I share 100% of whatever I downloaded, wait until I've got 100% uploaded, or simply close the program if there's no downloaders at all. I don't have anything going via that method right now though, seeing as everything I want I found on Ares Lite

On a whole though, I do try to share as much as possible, because other people had to share with me first so I could get the file(s), and it'd be rather rude to download something and never even think of sharing it afterwards

I noticed that earlier as well, and it happened in this thread too There, however, Yoshi Dude is the only one of you two that posted in that thread, so I can only guess it's something with that layout. Even if that was the case, Colleen's post in in between Yoshi Dude and Snika's, and it appears to be unaffected for whatever reason

As for proving whether or not your layouts clash, I didn't see anything wrong with the thread before clicking "New Reply" Maybe something will happen after I submit it, so let's see.

Edit: As you can see, after replying, the same thing happens. The only thing I can suggest is for one of you to try removing your layout code by editing your post, and see if the thread's still affected. I think that'd allow you to figure out whose layout is causing the problems.

It definitely did, and as I result of that, I now realize why I never was able to finish it and get a screenshot of my score as a result. Both last night and the night before, I tried the song on challenge, and failed the song about one third of the way through. As a result of that, I closed StepMania because I was either frustrated with it, or didn't want to play any more songs, which kept me from trying it on Heavy or lower Tonight I'll try Heavy, and make sure I have a screenshot of my result for tomorrow I still have some screens to show today, so here they are:

:: Holic, Heavy
:: The Legend of MAX, Heavy
:: Samurai Zero, Heavy
:: MaxX Unlimited, Heavy
:: Manhattan Sports Club, Heavy

I realize the last result isn't that great, but I'm more pleased with the fact that I can finally make it through the song, than getting a good score at this point. Also, just in case it makes a difference, all those songs were in the "Keyboard Mega Pack" group. Some of them, like "M" (I think that one letter is the name, but in case it's not, I do know it starts with an M ) are quite difficult right now, but I suppose some of those songs were more meant for people that use both hands to play In all though, I'm happy with those results

It's a pity I already have exactly 80 minutes of songs from StepMania for a CD, as I'd put that one on as well, but I suppose I'll have to see about working up another list of songs with that one included. I want to put the nonstop megamix on a CD with some other songs, so it should work well

I'm making a wild guess here, but does SMO stand for StepMania Online? If it does, then no, I don't. That's due to not having an internet connection at home, and not wanting to go through the complication of getting it set up here. However, if that's not what it stands for, I still haven't played it, as this'll be my first time hearing about it

I haven't really messed with many of the mods too much, except the one to change the music speed. I like listening to Owaranai Yume at 1.6x or higher, as it sounds neat when the voices get high-pitched. My best score on that song at 2.0 on Heavy is a B, I think Super Shooter is also fun to play on faster music speeds. I can get up to 1.5 and still get an A at the end, but that's as high as I can go right now. As for the C-mods, I think the highest / lowest I've gone in both directions is about 3 (so on the options menu, that'd be 3 to the left or right from the default setting). I actually haven't looked into custom modifiers at all though. I don't know if that makes a difference in the end, but it can't hurt to give it a mention.

Now, here's a question that I was wondering about last night. In the Techno Fiend 3 theme (I don't know if it appears in others) does the "Portal" option on the song selection menu do anything other than pick a random song? I thought it would do that, and also turn some random modifers on, but it doesn't appear to. As of right now, all I can see it being is a copy of the random selection, except without locking you into that song

Anyways, I played StepMania quite a bit last night, as Geneforge 3 was getting on my nerves and I didn't want to play any other games, so I've got 7 result screens to show today

:: Super Mario Bros. Dirty Mix, Heavy
:: Headache, Heavy
:: Love is Orange, Heavy
:: Lower World, Heavy
:: Murmur Twins, Heavy
:: 20000000000, Heavy
:: MAX 300, Heavy

I've got a nagging feeling that I already posted a screenshot of Lower World in this thread, but upon checking the screenshot folder at home, there was only one All on Heavy difficulty, as you can see, but I blame that on both the songs that have a Challenge difficulty for being too hard, and me for not being good enough to do them right now. Only one "B" out of all of those though, so that's pretty good

As for what was said about Bike Chase a little while back (thing ranges from 110-666BPM), I'm beginning to realize just what that may be like. The only song I've got that I can think of off the top of my head that's like that is In the Groove Megamix. The slowest it gets is 69BPM, and in the final part of the song, it gets up to ~330BPM It's "rated" 14 (I don't know what exactly you'd call it), which makes it the most difficult song I can make it through. To think Bike Chase is even harder than that

Posted on 09-01-05 11:06 PM, in New Rank Set Possibility? (Megaman Battle Network Series) Link
A couple days ago, I said in the "What Rank Set are you Using?" thread that I was thinking about making one up, by using the navi sprites from this series. I asked in the Acmlm's Town Square thread if anyone was interested in seeing something like that, but it got overlooked, I guess I don't know if this is the right place to post this thread (it was either in here, or Modern Art), so if it needs to be moved, then by all means do so.

Right now, there are exactly 217 pictures. Duplicates removed, that number will probably drop down to somewhere near 170, given that there are obviously duplicates of Megaman's sprite, and of the different styles. Some of the boss sprites are quite large as well (Alpha, Nebula Grey, and Duo, namely)

What I'm hoping to find out by making this thread is if there's a decent amount of members here that would like to see this, and if there are, which order the pictures should go in. For now, you can get a .zip file of all the pictures here. When you unzip the file, make sure to choose the extract option without selecting any of the files, as they're grouped in folders for each game, and there's also a page which can be used to view all the pictures at once. I might've accidentally included two Megaman Zero 3 sprites as well, and if I did, you can ignore them

That's hosted on YouSendIt, so that link will only be good for 7 days or 25 downloads, I think. If enough people still want to see the pictures after that time, I'll reupload it, or if there's just a few people, I'll send it to you by email I'd rather not upload each image individually to ImageShack or somewhere else unless I have to, as there are a lot of pictures there.

I do realize some of the sprites are missing (especially from Team Colonel / Team Protoman). I either overlooked them while playing the game, or didn't think to include them at the time. If need be, I'll find the two ROMs again, and play through until I can get the missing sprites. There also isn't any folder for 4.5: Real Operation, as I can't figure out how to even get past the beginning part of that game I'd go on further, but for now, I just want to see if enough people are interested in this to make it worthwhile

I've just tried darkening the background up, and you can see what it looks like with that change made here. The lighter parts on the actual background image (the one of the 3 people) still look like they're getting in the way a bit, so if need be, I can try darkening them at home tonight.

Also, before anyone mentions it, yes, the base of this layout is from the one I was using previously. The only real difference in it now is the backgrounds and border color

First off, you should look through your emulator's menus to see if there's an option to save screenshots. Most of the newer ones should, but if not, here's some simple steps to follow:

1) Get to the place in the game you want to take a screenshot of, then hold the ALT key on your keyboard, and press "Print Screen". ALT is near the lower left, and Print Screen is above the Insert, Home, and Page Up keys, just in case you didn't know.
2) Open paint, or your image editor of choice and press CTRL+V to paste the screenshot. If you use paint, and a dialog box pops up that says something about the size of the image being larger than what you have room for, then click "Yes" to make the area in paint bigger.
3) Save the image with whatever filename you like, but make sure it's not in .bmp format. Try to use either .jpg or .png.
4) Go to ImageShack, click the "Browse" button, and navigate to where you saved the picture. Double-click the file to upload it to ImageShack.
5) Now you should be presented with a bunch of links to the picture. Find the link enclosed in IMG tags, and cut and paste it into your post.

I think that covers pretty much everything

Given the above post, I feel extremely unlucky not having an arcade anywhere near our house There used to be one (or possibly even two) at the mall my Dad works at, but they were closed quite a while ago now. I actually can't think of any arcades in this city at all There may still be one up in the North Maple Mall, but walking, it's about an hour away from our house. Good thing October's coming up soon, as I'm getting more and more eager to try DDR: Mario Mix

Anyways, even though we just had a long weekend, I didn't play StepMania all that much In between fixing bits of Dark Vampriel's layout, trying to figure out the post increments for the Battle Network rank set, Geneforge 3, and trying to get my dog (well, Nintendog) to place first in an obedience contest, it sort of got forgotten That isn't to say I didn't play it at all. I still have 7 screens, but it seemed like less than normal. I actually decided to give some difficult songs a try on 1.5 (not the music speed). The last three screenshots are the ones with that modifier turned on.

:: Manhattan Sports Club, Heavy
:: neoMAX, Challenge
:: War Game, Heavy
:: Sync, Heavy
:: Fun Fun Pharaoh, Challenge
:: Riviera Battle Theme, Challenge

Now, even though some of those are in the A.O.I. theme, while others are in Techno Fiend 3, they were all taken over the weekend. If you want an explanation of why I changed themes, here you go: upon getting home on Friday, I installed some new Winamp skins I'd downloaded, and settled on one I liked the most at the present time. I left Winamp open, then launched StepMania, and noticed it was rather choppy while playing any song. I took a look at how much RAM it was using in the Task Manager, which was over 100Mb (I don't know if that's normal or not, as it's the first time I ever checked). I restarted the computer, then opened Winamp again, followed by StepMania. The same problem was still present, so I tried switching themes, to no avail. Closing Winamp seemed to solve the problem, which was when I realized I forgot to turn off Alpha Blending for the skin I kept using A.O.I. for a little while longer, and changed back to Techno Fiend 3 before going to bed

I also took a bit more time to work on my steps to the Romancing SaGa song, and all I can say right now is that Voltage is the most full out of all the "categories" in the graph it shows. That's Challenge though, which is sort of understandable.

With luck I'll have some screens of new songs to show tomorrow, seeing as there appears to be three that are new. Hopefully they'll be good results

I'll do that as soon as it comes back up, but as with Omega, I can give an explanation for only having that version of the song, in case it makes a difference.

Before I even found out that StepMania existed, I played FlashFlashRevolution. I chose to purchase the version of neoMAX there as soon as I had enough points to, and really liked the song. The music in itself is quite good, and the steps to it were pretty challenging as well.

Upon realizing that I could download StepMania and songs to go with it, and be able to play a game of this style offline, and finding a link to Bemanistyle, I downloaded the first simfile of all the songs on FFR that I liked. neoMAX was one of them, and as per the above, I downloaded the first simfile of it that was on the site. Shortly after that we lost our internet connection, and I've yet to download another version of the song. I can't at present either, for obvious reasons

Believe me. When Bemanistyle is back up (which will hopefully be soon), I'll be downloading as many simfiles as I can, as I'm bored with the ones I've got right now, and as you've pointed out, some may not be the complete versions, or even the "right" versions.

That's longer than I thought it would be, but it explains everything, so I'll leave it at that

That sounds like a good idea. I'll download and install AIM on this computer after this, since I uninstalled it after getting the nonstop megamix from alte Hexe / Ziffski (whichever name you prefer ).

I see you've got your AIM name listed in your profile, but I don't know whether the "allow list" bit after it would make a difference in things, so I'll just sign on (my AIM name is karadur22, but it's not listed in my profile since I hardly use the program) and wait, hopefully to get that song from you today If not today, tomorrow, or any day after that.

Posted on 09-07-05 12:23 AM, in Gas Prices: Time to do some more budgeting! Link
I've tried to stick with riding my bike or walking pretty much anywhere lately, as long as my destination isn't too far away, reasons that should be extremely obvious. There's actually not too many places I can think of needing a ride to right now. The farthest I've gone is to EB Games, which is about half an hour of riding, both going there and coming back. That's about as far out as the stores go as well. There's a place that sells furniture a bit further out, but from Walmart and on, the stores aren't nearly as close together.

I actually felt a bit guilty asking my Mom to take me out to buy a game the other day as well. On the way back, we went past a gas station, at which the price was over a dollar. I don't know what it's like right now, but I'm assuming it's about the same as before. Also, now that school's started, as soon as winter sets in and it starts getting colder and snowing, my brother and sister are likely to refuse to walk to school, and beg my Mom for a ride. Who knows how much that'll cost in the end if prices are still like what they are right now at that time

After all of that, on the 24th of this month, we're heading out to my Uncle's house for a family reunion. He lives outside of Wingham, which is a 3 hour drive, according to google's map. Add an extra hour in for potential stops, detours, or accidentally getting lost, and that might bump things up to more than 4 hours. The money that's going to be spent on gas for that trip is going to be apalling. If it wasn't for me looking forward to going out there, I'd actually suggest possibly staying home, and having everyone come to our house after Christmas sometime.

One can only hope that gas prices decrease sometime soon

Just so anyone that's curious as to what's changed (as in my opinon, the red background looks almost the same), I added one pixel to the background, which now makes it look almost like an LCD screen, what with having that background behind it. I like that effect, but it wasn't intentional either The red can be darkened up a bit more yet, if necessary, but eventually it's going to come to the point where it looks brown

Now, I also realize that Snika suggested making a solid color be partially transparent, but the only program I've got on my computer at home that can do that is Microsoft Photo Editor, and it doesn't seem to work, for whatever reason The first time I tried that, the slider to set the level of transparency was greyed out, so I enlarged the image a bit, which enabled the transparency slider, but also made weird patterns in the background while previewing it in Firefox and Internet Explorer (those are the only browsers on my computer)

One other change that can be made if need be is to darken up the lighter bits of the actual background. I've already done that, and saved a copy of the image, so for right now, you can see what it looks like in Dark Vampriel's most recent post

I think this is what HyperHacker suggested, but even if it's not, you could try Virtual Desktop Manager, which can be found here. That's only for Windows XP though, so if you're not running that, it likely won't work.

There isn't any sort of password-protection thing you're looking for in that, but you can have a duplicate of your desktop, which you can have all the windows open on, and just switch over to the one with only 1 or two windows open when you're away from the computer. You may also be able to disable the toolbar, but I'm not sure whether that actually disables that function completely, or just hides it That also depends on how knowledgeable your parents are when it comes to computers It's worth a shot if they know just enough to get work and such done on it

How nice to find out I forgot to uninstall AIM from the front computer yesterday It was open when I came in, but it's uninstalled now, so hopefully that doesn't happen again.

Anways, I gave neoMAX a try on the hardest difficulty as soon as I got home last night, and I didn't do as well as I hoped I would. About a third of the way through the slow part at the beginning, I failed I find any song / part of a song like that, with a slower BPM and thus a very small space between the arrows to be difficult Practicing enough should help that though.

Heavy on the same song wasn't too difficult, as I managed to get an A on it, but after that, I tried Challenge again, except with the first modifier changed to 1.5x. I have screenshots of both difficulties, but I'll only post the Challenge one.

:: neoMAX, Challenge, 1.5x
:: Tight Wad, Heavy
:: July, Heavy

As for the other songs (Healing Vision RMX and R.O.D come to mind), I gave them a try, but for whatever reason didn't take a screenshot of the result screen. Those will have to wait until tomorrow.

Now, after looking around a bit, I've found two sites that have a decent number of simfiles to download, so it'll be nice to actually have some new songs to play tonight. According to the description field of one of the sites, some of the songs don't have banners or backgrounds, which may make things a bit tricky when it comes to screenshots.

There appears to be about 60 simfiles between the two sites, so it's time to get downloading

Posted on 09-07-05 11:07 PM, in Rabbits Link
Since this now seems to be a discussion about both rabbits and cats, I have something to say about both of them, since we had / have each for pets. Unfortunately, we have neither a digital camera nor a scanner, so I can't post pictures of them

Since the thread started off with rabbits, I'll start with the one we owned as well. His or her (I can't remember which now) name was "Cloudy", named by my Mom. It was grey, rather round, didn't like baths, and so on. It died quite a while ago, as during the summer, we kept it in a cage my Dad built outside our garage, with leaves and such to soften the floor up a bit. Those leaves, however, had some sort of lumps on them (I remember someone saying they were eggs). Cloudy ate the leaves when it was hungry, and thus ate some of the eggs as well, which was, in some way, fatal

The one funny story I remember about it happened to my Mom. She used to teach a painting class with a group of friends in our house, and the room they used was the same room Cloudy was kept in during the fall and winter. During one of the painting classes, my Mom had put a margarine tub of water on the floor, which she used to rinse her brush off, and Cloudy promptly walked up and tipped it over That's about all I remember about it, seeing as it's been quite a while since it died.

As for cats, we currently have two. They're apparently both female (although we're not sure about one of them, but we treat it as a female). Their names are Tabby and Smok(e)y. Tabby is a black cat, with little bits of white at the tip of her fur, named by my sister. She's a tabby cat, if that wasn't already obvious Smokey is my Mom's. She's grey, very furry, and always keeps her tail bent back up and over her body, for whatever reason. I think she's a tabby as well, but I'm not completely sure.

If you want to read some funny stories about them, then I'll direct you to my post in this thread. That covers everything, as since then, they haven't done anything worth mentioning. Unless you count coming into my room and waking me up early in the morning As with Cloudy, they don't like taking baths, and anyone that tries to give them one is likely to come away with quite a few scratches and cuts, and two very angry cats

That's not to say that we haven't had other pets, but I won't go into those for now.

The most disgusting thing I've ever had to clean at home would be our fridge.

To begin, all the food needs to be taken out. It isn't very nice to be doing that and suddenly come across something moldy and putrid. I find cheese to be the worst for that, but other things are subject to it as well, such as leftover spaghetti sauce, gravy, and other such things. After that, all the shelves need to be removed. Easy enough, if it wasn't for all the sticky stuff, like juice, that dries onto them. Once they're all removed, you actually need to clean out the inside of the fridge. One time in the past, there was actually a couple centimetres of dried milk or something in the bottom, that took quite a while to scrape out. Other common things to find while doing that are the tabs that keep bags of milk closed, grapes or other small fruit, flakes of onion skin, and so on. All that remains to be done after that is to clean the shelves, and put everything back in the fridge. That doesn't even cover what the freezer is like though Most of the time the fridge gets cleaned, the floor in front of it does as well, and it doesn't take long for liquids to dry and stick to the floor.

That's actually about the only really disgusting thing I've ever had to clean. Lesser things would include our cats' litter boxes, underneath my bed, the kitchen floor, and so on.

The fridge is by far the worst though
