I must say, that was fast. I'll try that when I get home tonight, along with some of the other programs there that look interesting. Hopefully it works, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Thanks for the link

I remember looking into that back before I even found Stardock's site I prefer what I'm using right now though, mostly because I'm used to / comfortable with it, and also because a majority of the themes I like are only in .wba format. I should take a look at getting that patch though, as I've run across a few visual styles so far that haven't been ported for whatever reason.

Like you said though, everyone has a different way of doing things, so it's up to them to decide how to go about changing the GUI or whatever else

Thanks for reminding me though. I'd pretty much forgotten about that up to this point

Well, if it does, that's news to me As far as I know, SkinStudio can convert .msstyles, but some things don't get changed during the conversion, such as the pictures for the buttons in the Shut Down and Log Off boxes. Shellstyles (I think that's what they're called) don't get converted either. I have done that with a couple themes I found that were only in .msstyle format, but most of them look less than nice

Now for the obvious question. How in the world did you get a 2098 combo on that song? Last time I played it, it didn't seem to have that many arrows Maybe that "C512" option did something, but whenever I switched to one of them that started with C, nothing different seemed to happen 6 toasties as well What's the highest amount you've ever gotten from one song, or is that it right there?

I also see that DDR Megamix is on Bemanistyle, so I'll take that home tonight and try it. It's going to be interesting, mostly considering the length of it The longest I've gone straight in songs was about two hours on non stop (or whatever the name is), but there I got 5 seconds or so to give my hand a break between songs We'll see how it goes though

I understand that now then. Sorry for asking so many questions in this thread as of late, but there's been quite a few things that have caught my interest, and I couldn't resist wanting to look further into them At any rate, I'll try to keep them to a minimum from now on

This is the first time I've actually heard of a System Administrator Appreciation Day

I can't help but get the feeling that my brother and sister should at least thank my tonight for letting them keep using my computer, although that's not really the sort of administrator we're talking about I still remember back when we got it, my sister tried to convince me to make an admin account for my Dad, since it was actually his then, when he didn't, and still doesn't know anything about computers Trying to take advantage of that fact, I guess, but it didn't go her way.

Anyways, I want to say thanks as well to the system administrators here. Someone has to keep this place well-maintained, and safe from hackers and whatnot, and although there must've been trying times, you've done, in my opinon, quite a good job of it.

Thanks

Well, I don't actually own a gamepad, although I'd like to try using one sometime. Last time I got a chance was when I was around 10 years old, when Canadian Tire still sold NES games They had SMB3 set up with a gamepad, so I decided to give it a try, although I couldn't even get past the first level The small jump you have to make after the three large colored blocks always killed me. I assume that I could do it now though

As for my controls, let me dig down to the thread I posted them in before. It's right here. Given that I haven't changed any of those keys since that post, I'll just leave it at that right now.

I haven't ever messed around with the save / load state keys, or most of the other ones that control functions specific to the emulator, but it could be useful, seeing as the save / load state buttons change between emulators, and having them all the same could be useful.

They've worked well so far though, and that's what matters

I used to be, in my current opinion, extremely shy. Even now, if you were to meet and try to talk to me in person, I'd be a bit shy until I actually realized I knew you from somewhere else I'd much prefer talking via the internet on a message board like this, than person to person, but the latter isn't too big a deal right now

In all, I've been becoming less and less shy as I've gotten older, and I can't see that changing any time soon

Edit: In case it matters to anyone, I voted "Sorta Shy".

I too think they give you the bills first, mainly since they come first, then the coins when they hand the change to you, and say how much is there. Also, as Prier said, it acts as a mat, which I'd say is just to keep you from acidentally dropping one or more coins.

It's not really a big deal to me which they give first, as I sort through the coins to find anything less than a quarter, and stick it in one of my empty pockets, then the rest goes in the pocket the money came from. Anything less than a quarter goes in a box hidden in my room (to prevent my sister from stealing from it), and the bills and coins above a quarter get hidden somewhere else, but I really should consider locking them away

So in short, it doesn't matter which the clerk gives me first, as it's going to get sorted out before leaving the store

I expected this result:

Take the What High School Stereotype Are You? quiz.

Honestly, by grade 11, I didn't bother eating lunch at all, and just went to the library to surf the internet Even though they had the usual "School work only" rule, that was one of the last things I thought of while in there

Sports don't interest me, and neither did any of the other activities they had going on during the lunch break, and I didn't really want to wander the halls until the next class, so that was what I did

I'm not sorting through all that code right now, so I'll just say that I got "Christianity", and give you the picture of the little graph it shows.

Most of my answers to the questions were in the middle 3 radio buttons, but I chose the rightmost one on two or three questions.

We actually haven't been to church in quite a while now, which I should say that I don't mind, although Sundays lately have been rather boring, seeing as we pretty much have the whole day to do whatever we want

Some of those questions were pretty interesting. The one I'm thinking of right now was "Jesus, being a prophet, should be respected; however, being a man, not be worshipped.". Certainly gives you something to think about.

Nothing really different than what I was expecting though, so take that for what you will

Edit: Changed some wording.

It would've been nice to know I was buying something by clicking that link, but I still seem to have a decent amount of points to spend, so it's not a big deal

Watching that movie at home last night, I thought the guy on the left was just looking over at the right side of the screen at first, but then I noticed how he was on a higher difficulty than the other guy. I wonder how long he had to practice that song to memorize all the steps in it Especially the third time the camera goes down to the pad

After watching the whole thing, I figured that if he could get that good on that song, and on a pad, then I should be trying to do better as well The result of my efforts last night was this. Sure, the amount of arrows I missed, or got "Okay" or less on are higher than what I'd like, but I'm pleased with that result, seeing as before I couldn't even pass that song on challenge. Also, before anyone asks about the title bar, I forgot that StepMania can save screenshots itself when I took that one, so the title bar got included. It's also not skinned because WindowBlinds gives me a fuss if I launch the program and it's not on the exception list.

I also gave "Satan's Theme" a try, and I see quite clearly what was meant by the "I feel sorry for the people who try heavy" type comment It'll likely get easier with time and enough practicing though.

One other thing about the questions I ask now. If you don't mind me asking them, then I'll continue posting them here whenver one comes up, but I wouldn't call them "theories", so much as "assumptions". I see something unusual, and then I assume that whatever optional things are enabled have something to do with that, is pretty much how it goes It doesn't matter to me whichever word you use though, but I just thought I'd make that known

I prefer VisualBoyAdvance as well, for both Gameboy and GBA games, although I need to look up instructions on what steps to take to get the link feature to work, as sometimes I can do it, while others I can't, no matter what I try. Anyways, you can find a link to the version of this emulator with the link capability feature here, and upon searching through google, I found a page with instructions for linking here. Of course, you could always go with what Dr. Weird posted, but there's another thing you can use

As for the game speed increase feature, I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but most emulators I use now have a key that can make the game go faster as long as it's held (an example would be the tilde (~) key in ZSNES). I know VBA has one, but I don't know about BGB.

Hopefully those help

My parents aren't nearly as bad as she is, but they'd still probably agree with her if they read that Just to name one thing: nearly anything involving magic, witches, sorcerers, and / or other things of the sort is frowned upon, and viewed as evil and potentially corrupting

On the topic at hand though, my Mom has actually told us over supper that she's glad that we don't read those books, because they're sinful and such. The only reason I haven't touched one yet is because none of them look that interesting (and I know that other people would put up quite an argument to that, but that's my opinon of them).

The interesting thing is the picture at the bottom of the page that says "God told me to hate you", while she'd supposed to be America's best christian

That's an interesting and funny read

I can imagine what that's like There's a couple songs I have right now that are apparently supposed to be played on a pad only. Some are still moderately difficult on either heavy or challenge, and seeing if they're as hard as they are using a keyboard, they must be a lot more tricky when using a pad I can't wait for October to come, so I can get DDR Mario Mix and actually try playing that style of game without using a keyboard

I finally mananged to find DahrkDaiz's simfiles on Bemainstyle yesterday (apparently I had been transposing the "h" and "r" at the beginning before), and I managed to download all of them except for Party 4U, since even when I'm logged in, a download link doesn't appear Would it be too much trouble to ask someone that has that song to email it to me, or upload it to YouSendIt? It'd be very much appreciated, as it's frustrating being able to download all the files except one

That aside, "Centerfold (Angel is a...)", "and Witch Doctor Megamix" are my favorites out of all of them. My brother seems to find the background for the latter extremely funny, although I don't see why. To me, it looks like something you'd put on a wall in a doctor's office to amuse young patients

One other question I have now. A page or so back, both alte Hexe and Prier posted something about a 45-minute long DDR Megamix. I searched for that exact text on Bemanistyle, and came up with 4 results, all of which are less than 5 minutes in length. Is that song on the site at all, or is it somewhere else? I haven't been able to find it yet, which is why I'm asking

According to an email I have right now, I signed up for one sometime in the past, with the username "PIEBBQ" If I remember right, that was when a friend wanted me to send something to him over AIM, since it apparently had better transfer speeds than MSN Messenger Anyways, I'm logged in, surprisingly, so if you could send it before 5:00 today, it'd be very much appreciated, otherwise I'll have to get it next week sometime

As for the game itself, I took home about 300 more simfiles last night, which gives me a total of 600 something I haven't even done half of them yet. I think I got the song those two guys were playing in the movie Prier linked to (PARANOiA Survivor Max), and tried challenge. I only got a B on it, with the keyboard, when he got an AA on a pad Speaking of them, I just got to looking at EB Games' site for pads that can connect to a PC, and I came across this one as a first result. According to the site, it's compatible with PS2, XBOX, and PC so hopefully the store here in Chatham stocks those. I know they have a few in there, but most of the boxes say something about PS2 only.

Finally, I took another shot at Electric Fields last night, and although my Mom kept asking me how I managed to press the buttons so fast in the part near the end, I managed to get about halfway through it without dying. I still can't do the parts with the orange arrows though. It's sort of like the part with the heaviest concentration of arrows in "Get Down with MAX". I used to think it was impossible, but now I can do it with very little difficulty

As Spel werdz rite has said a couple times though, there will always be people out there that are better than you, so I should't get too confident with what I can do right now

I don't know about your Hyrule Magic problem, as I've only used the program for about 10 minutes total since I found it (which was quite a while ago) Let's see what we can do about your other questions though

I could be certain we had a sticky in this section before that dealt with IPS patches, but it doesn't seem to be there now IPS patches are the format in which all hacks on this board (at least that I've seen) are distributed. If you're looking for a program that can apply / create patches, then I'd recommend LIPS, which you can get here. Just look through various threads in this section, and a few of them will have links to patches of various games that you can use, provided you have the original ROM.

As for ASM hacks, these are hacks (obviously) that change the behavior of any given game. It may be a small difference, or quite a large one. It all depends on what / how much was changed in the game. If you're looking for a guide for that, you'll need to tell us what console the game you're trying to hack runs on, since there are different variations (is that the right word to use?) for each system.

Finally, yes, you can upload your ROM to your own website, but it's not recommended if you want to get people here to play it. Use LIPS to make a patch of your ROM, then upload that. Always make a backup before doing that sort of thing, just in case something goes wrong. If you're looking for a place to host your hack, you could check this thread, since there's a few links in there.

Hopefully that helps

I've got about 3 simfiles I've tried to work on now One's "Our Xenopittan", where I was working on adding Standard steps, as the Heavy ones were too difficult for me (and still are), which is about halfway done. I don't know whether I should submit that to Bemanistyle at all when it's done, as the only thing I'll have added is one difficulty level My art skills, while certainly not the worst I've seen, are definitely not the best either.

The second one was "Slider" from a soundtrack I downloaded a while ago, that had to do something with "Mario Big Band" I can't place where it's from right now, but I think it's from the slides in Mario 64. The BPM is off, I figured it out using the Winamp AVS thing. I've got MixMeister installed now, but I haven't checked the proper BPM of the song yet (I keep typing BMP ).

Finally, the third one, and the most recent I've worked on is titled "Romancing SaGa =Hyper Euro Arrange=. I forget where I downloaded that song, although I have it bookmarked on one of these computers. I've done about the first 20 seconds or so, mostly over the course of last weekend. The problem, even if I get the steps done, is that I don't know the real name of the song (like how some songs have a common name, such as "Boss Battle", while the real name may be entirely different), I've got only a vague idea of the author (the ID3 tag editor in Winamp says something about "hito-ookami"), and, as stated before, my art skills aren't the best in the world.

I obviously played the game quite a bit over the weekend, and I do have a few screenshots to show for my efforts.

First off, we have In the Groove Megamix. I'm pleased with that result, seeing as it's a moderately long song (either 7 or 11 minutes, I can't remember which). On the flip side, however, that isn't the best I could've done, but my keyboard will only accept two arrow keys being pressed at one time, and in certain circumstances, three. That makes a difference in the first third or so of this song, since there's parts like this. That screenshot was taken right near the beginning of the song as well Overall, that's decent in my opinon.

Next is Love Love Shine Survivor Max. Given that I couldn't get above a C on it before, I consider that result to be quite good. I also tried the edit difficulty, and got a B on it. I actually like this version of the song more than the original, which is funny, considering what sort of comments that song got on Bemanistyle

The last one isn't anything too special, as the song isn't really hard (at least I don't find it to be). I refer to Era (3x2 Mix) on heavy. The reason I decided to take a screenshot of that is that it's the closest I've ever come in any song to getting an AAA. Interestingly enough, I had a rather old screenshot in the directory of this song, on the same difficulty, and I still had two "Nice", or whatever it is in the default theme. It makes me wonder what arrows I'm getting that on.

One other thing I forgot to mention on Friday now.

Out of curiosity, what joke files are you talking about? The only one that comes to mind is Love Love Shine Survivor Max, as your comment and the other comments about that song on Bemanistyle seemed to hint at that I obviously don't have a list of simfiles you've made in front of me, but I can't remember any others that seemed to be purposefully bad

And as for what I posted about that pad I saw on EB Games' site the other day, I should've figured that was U.S. only. They have pads for PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube, but they don't have any converters for them. There's one game for Gamecube that comes with a pad, but it doesn't look anything like DDR / StepMania at all. The clerk told me to think about it over the weekend, as they have a deal on right now where you get half off your purchase or something if you trade in 4 Mad Catz (or is it "Katz") products, but first off, I don't have even one, and secondly, I have never traded any games or related items, and I've yet to see a reason to want to.'

I also need to look at getting a new keyboard, possibly which will be used to replace the one we have right now. Reasoning there being that the left and right arrows (on the keyboard), are almost to the point of not working anymore. They only come up about halfway after getting pressed down and released now. The up and down arrows aren't nearly as bad, but they're getting there. Interestingly enough, the "X" from the x key is completely rubbed off, since it gets used in all the emulators on the computer, while the arrows still show. I'm sure that with time, they'll be in the same state as the X though.

Anyhow, that's long enough for now, but I may think of some things I forgot before the end of the day, so don't think that's it from me for now
