I'm not Emptyeye, but anyways, as I understand it, you make a map of the game as you go through it, whether by simply drawing it out on paper, or by other methods Unless of course you were asking how easy it was to make the map

Using that does sound useful, especially for Metroid. I tried to go through that game before using the map from the map editor in Metedit, but I had no luck Then there's the map of the game that's been sitting on my desktop for a couple months now, which hasn't gotten any use at all. It sounds like something fun to try next time I'm bored and don't want to play anything on the Gamecube

Never having played that game, I have to ask what about it makes it hard to draw up a map on your own I'd assume the fact that the pyramid you draw at first may not be big enough to fit everything into would be one thing, but I don't see why else it would be hard to do

I don't usually find the need to say these numbers out loud (unless I'm talking to myself), but if I do, I just say every letter and number. Say it was "5A3D" for example, I'd say "five ay three dee".

As for spelling them, it'd pretty much be spelling out the numbers, then writing the letter. I don't see much point in writing "eff" or "dee" for "f" and "d"

Last I knew, I had something like $700 left to spend, so you're not getting any money from me

That thing would be pretty neat to have if you could afford it though. Of course, you wouldn't be able to get much use out of it unless you knew of a large and fairly flat area somewhere nearby, but how many other people can you think of that would have one of those? It'd be good for showing off to your friends as well

Still, given how big it is, I can't see many people being able to make use out of it, even if they did have the money to get one, so it'd pretty much be, as neotransotaku said, a big statue. Well, a big metal statue, with flamethrowers

I'm wondering as well whether anyone's going to take it seriously, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see

Edit: This appears to be my 1000th post. Yay

You need to replace the space in the URL to the patch with a question mark. At least that worked for me You can use this link for convenience.

All the screens look quite good, and I can just imagine what sort of things you'll be able to do with the new space pirates One thing I have to ask about is why Samus and the two enemies seem to be floating in the last screenshot. I guess you could've turned the layer for the platforms off, but I wanted to make sure

I'll take this patch home tonight and give it a try. It's looking good so far

Edit: Added a working link to the patch

My username's been the same since I've joined, and I currently have no intent or want to change it. Partially because I can't think of anything else I'd want to change it to I haven't changed my name on other boards I've been a member at in the past either. There, it was mostly because I didn't know how to

So in short, I like this name, and I see no need to change it at the present time

I can't say I've really noticed a difference in how good I am at games right now compared to when I was younger either

The only game I ever had trouble with, was Joshua, in the later levels. They required a bit of planning, as in some, you had to do things one specific way, and anything else you tried would result in you having to restart the level. Now, provided I can get the game to work in our NES, and get to some of those levels, I can take a bit more time to plan out what I should do, and hopefully beat the level. There's still an old book me and my brother worked on, that has all the codes for the levels that we were able to get to. It's still not complete though

We only had a NES, with about 25 games for most of my childhood though, I'm rather limited in games I'm good at now, that I wasn't before

Posted on 07-22-05 09:39 PM, in Have you ever found any cool glitch or code on your own? Link
Right. I can remember two I stumbled across. One on Faxanadu, and the other on Super Mario World.

For the Faxanadu one, it was really me and my brother that stumbled across it, as we were working together to get through the game at the time (evidence of that is a bunch of continue codes for the game written on the dining room wall ). We finally managed to make it to the final boss, but for some reason, we had infinite Elixirs It should be fairly obvious, but that made it alot easier to beat the thing I don't know how we triggered it, as we still haven't managed to do that a second time

As for the Super Mario World glitch, it's most likely on a couple sites having to do with the game, but I found it by myself anyways. It's possible to hold a key (and maybe the P-block, but I haven't tested that), while riding on Yoshi. You simply jump off Yoshi, grab the key, but it on the same square of ground Yoshi's on, then jump back on him while holding the button to pick the key up. If you did it right, you should be holding the key at Yoshi's head level, and still be able to control him normally. That comes in useful if you want to take the key along with him, but don't want him swallowing it

Those are the two I remember, but there may be more still

Hands down, I'd say Tales of Symphonia for myself. I'm on my seventh playthrough, and still not bored with it, but that's because there's still some things I haven't gotten yet

If I had to pick a second, I'd say Secret of Mana (not Seiken Densetsu 3). I've only played that on an emulator, but it was still quite fun. It's the only game I've played besides Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles that had that certain sort of battle system, which was easy to use, and a nice change from the turn-based battles in other RPGs.

I actually can't think of too many RPGs that I've played, and liked enough to remember right now Those two above are definitely my favorites of the ones that do come to mind though

Finally, I voted "Other", in case it matters to anyone

It really isn't the best name, but I'm looking forward more to what it's going to be like to use, instead of wanting them to have picked a better name

What sort of things have they removed from it? I haven't been keeping up with it's development, as that's not very possible right now, so I don't know what sort of stuff they had planned for it

I really can't see it coming down to just a new style, since it's pretty pointless to design an OS just for that, but in the same way, it really won't be good if they're removing the stuff that would actually be useful Either way, it's going to be interesting to see what sorts of things people have to say about when it actually gets released. 2006 isn't too far away, but I can't help wonder whether it'll be worth the wait or not

Posted on 07-26-05 10:03 PM, in Open Ended or Plot Set in Stone? Link
I like open-ended plots myself, for a couple reasons (there has to be a beginning and end to the game though):

:: There could be multiple endings to the game, which would obviously keep you playing it alot longer than if there were only one. Even if there was only one ending, which is highly unlikely in itself, the plot could branch at various points in the game, provided you meet certain requirements, like having specific characters in your party or something else

:: If you get stuck at a point in a closed-plot game that's too difficult to get past, you're pretty much stuck there to practice at it, until you manage to get past. In an open-ended plot, if you were to get stuck at a certain point, you could very well have the choice to ignore that part, and go on to something else.

Closed-plot games are still fun, as long as they have a good / interesting storyline, and aren't really easy to beat

Since we're telling stories of cats running away, here's the ones I remember from our cats. Now, we have two cats at home, both which have given my sister a couple good scares. First off, their names are Tabby and Smokey.

Back when we just got them, my Mom and sister took them outside at least once a day, and kept a close watch on them. A few days into that, Naomi (my sister) decided to bring the camera outside to take some pictures of them. I was inside when it happened, but an hour or so after they were taken outside, Naomi came into the house crying about Tabby going under the fence into our neighbor's yard. I somehow got chosen to climb over the fence, and find the cat in amongst a bunch of bushes and trees We still have a picture somewhere that shows Tabby poking her head through the hole in the fence. You can see part of the camera strap in the picture as well Needless to say, that was the last time they were taken outside without being in the carrier.

Don't be fooled into thinking that Smokey's a little angel that wouldn't do anything wrong though. It hasn't happened in a while now, but she used to have a tendency to go to sleep under one of the chairs in our living room. That chair was in front of the TV, so whenever someone wanted to play a Gamecube game, or watch TV, we had to lift up the chair, check for a cat, and put it back down. As of late though, she's been going into the back of the same chair (the staples have fallen out of one of the sides). I'll just say that it's alot harder to get her out of there than it was to get her out from underneath the thing

Two more to go

Naomi's had a friend of hers over at our house for a while now, due to problems at home, and they've taken to sitting on the porch into late hours of the night. They go back and forth through the front door an awful lot though, and she's been putting off getting the cats into their room, feeding them, and cleaning out their litter boxes. One night a while back, neither of them (the cats) were to be found anywhere, so Naomi started getting hysterical about how Tabby must've gotten outside. Turns out she was sleeping upstairs in my Mom's room, along with Smokey.

Once again, a while back, my Dad was still in the middle of renovating our bathroom. There was a hole in the floor, from which you could see the ceiling of the dining room, as it's right below. One morning, someone forgot to cover the hole up. Naomi came downstairs asking me if I'd seen her cat, and I told her no, but then we heard scratching and meowing coming from the ceiling. We couldn't get to her from the hole in the bathroom, so I had to drag the shelf of encyclopedias that are in the dining room out from the wall a bit, stand on it, shove one of the ceiling tiles away, then try to find Tabby. I won't go into details, but when she finally came down, she was hissing and scratching like there was no tomorrow. There's still a couple kitty treats in the ceiling that I used to lure her towards me

It's good to know you found your cat though, fabio. Now you'll know where to look first next time she goes missing

I assume you did those on your computer, mrmenz, but it really doesn't look like StepMania Is that Dance With Intensity, or another program?

I finally managed to get an A on 2MB Megamix this morning which I'm happy with, considering that it was on challenge. That was just with a keyboard though. I want to try the game with an actual pad, but the only place I've seen that sells them is EB Games, and although I haven't looked closely at them, I think they're only for the PSX or PS2 games According to the latest issue of Nintendo Power, DDR Mario Mix is coming out in October, so I'm looking forward to that

I have one other question now. I just took a look at the Media Shop page of bemanistyle, and apparently I have 2520 tokens to spend. To avoid using those needlessly, are there any items on that page that are simfiles designed to be played with a keyboard? I saw the Bemanistyle Official Songpacks near the bottom, but it doesn't specify what they're designed for. Thanks if you can answer this

This is more of a guess than anything, but I'd say no. The main reason I think it wouldn't work is because two programs might have different ways of continuing a stopped download The only way I can see that you'd be able to find out for sure is to try it yourself

Just out of curiosity, why exactly do you want to know this?

I would've quoted you, but I don't want to sort through what stuff to delete right now I managed to find that theme via google, as I didn't see anything on bemanistyle about themes I did find the songpack though, so as soon as I locate my password, I can download it

As for what you posted about challenging songs, I haven't done any of the songs in the first five (although if I slow them down to 0.8x or lower, they're possible).

I've managed to do all of them in the second set of 5, except for Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelist of the Roses and Hell Scaper. I found the latter to be doable until I discovered the edit difficulty SO DEEP was another one I did on challenge this morning, although every time I try it, the quickest part right before the end almost gets me

The last 3, I'd have to choose as my favorites out of those. PARANOiA =iNSANiTY= (Full) on heavy is a nice challenge, but doing it on challenge is, currently, insanity (no pun intended).

The one song I have right now that I find to be impossibly challenging is Gaussian Blur. Quite a few times now, I've put on AutoPlay, and turned on the assist tick then watched the song, wondering how it'll ever be possible

Still, I used to think that songs like Super Shooter were hard, and now they're quite simple. Hopefully the same thing happens with the one above

I know you asked Priere, but according to a site I just found "the gap is the number of milliseconds from the beginning of the recording to the first beat of the song". This site goes into a bit of detail on how to find what it is for the song, so you could check that out if you're having trouble with it

Now, here's yet another question from me. So far I've only had it happen in two songs (Disc Error and PARANOiA =Bounce Connected Mix=), where some character appears on the lower right corner of the screen, and calls out "yoo hoo" or something There's a screenshot of it here, if it makes it easier to see what I'm talking about.

The questions I have about it, are, what makes it appear, and what is it good for? I think the fact that I sped that song up to 1.4x may have something to do with it, but I'm not sure, as when it happened in Disc Error, the song was playing at the normal speed I can't see anything in the program that relies on it either In short, it's got me stumped and mystified

Thanks for any answers you can give

Here is an example of how to do that more than once in a song.

I see. Going by the conditions you have to meet to get it to appear then, I guess I've been lucky I don't suppose it has an effect on your final score at the end of the song or anything? Thinking about that, it would be hard to determine, but it can't hurt to ask

As for the example you posted, with 5 of them appearing in one song, I'm quite pleased that I even managed to get one I guess the length of the song is one big factor in getting multiple toasties as well, seeing as that was your longest song. The longest (I'm getting tired of typing that word) one I know of is The Glass Prison, and although I don't stand a chance at that right now, I'd hate to see what worse ones there area

As for songs that I can do now, no new ones yet, but I have a feeling Electric Fields is going to be the next one I'm able to pass. The part near the end with the heavy concentration of arrows always gets me about one third of the way into it though

I'd choose "Being Loved by Someone Else" as well. If that were the situation, then it would be your own choice to decided whether you wanted to pursue a releationship with them or not As well, I'm more of a person that would rather have someone love me, and let me know about it, then loving someone and having to figure out some way to tell them

If you were to go the other way, and love someone when they didn't necessarily love you back, as Tarale posted, it would suck. Not to say that's what would happen, but if it did, it would be pretty hard on you

Posted on 07-29-05 12:05 AM, in Ever look for something because of a dream Link
The most recent dream of this sort I had that dealt with a game, had to do with Subterra. I had finished doing a particularly large level before I'd gone to bed, and in the dream, two parts at the top of the level were moving around as I was walking around in them, and eventually, the section connected with the rest of the level, allowing me to continue through it. Upon waking up the next morning, I still remembered that I'd dreamt that, and went downstairs to the computer and tried the level again, just to find out that it didn't play like my dream did. I realize that's going to be awfully obscure for pretty much anyone, but I tried my best

There's another one I have that concerns the Revolution, but since that isn't really a game, and the only way I'd be able to post it here is to copy it from my text file of dreams I can remember on my computer at home, I'll refrain from saying anymore about that, although if I remember to, and this thread's still active, I'll post it tomorrow

As for a dream that has to do with a well-known game, back when I was still into SMW hacking, and working on a version of the game, I lost a couple copies of stuff I'd done, and didn't have any backups. The main thing I was dissapointed about was the loss of the levels, as I thought they were pretty well made. In a couple dreams I had, I was playing through one of my lost levels, looking at it in Lunar Magic, and such. The weird thing is that I could remember what the level was like in my dream, but trying to do so while awake didn't produce any results

Those are what I can think of / remember for now

Posted on 07-29-05 12:23 AM, in Changing the Text Color of Compressed Files Link
I've posted more of my threads in this section than anywhere else Well, it goes to show what gives me problems the most, I guess.

Anyways, as the thread title says, I'm wondering if there's a way to change the text color for compressed files. I'm using Windows XP Home SP2, in case that makes a difference. The reasoning behind the question is that most of the WindowBlinds themes I use set a dark folder background color that makes it difficult to read the filenames of compressed files. I can highlight / select the ones I'm trying to read, but it'd be much nicer if I didn't have to worry about doing that

I also realize I could just not use WindowBlinds altogether, but Luna and it's two other colors get boring after a while.

I've looked on google, and the only things I've found are pages with instructions on how to enable different file text colors, depending on whether certain attributes are applied to them, instead of how to change said colors.

I have a feeling I've seen an option somewhere to change this color, but if I did, I can't find it again For all I know, there could be certain registry keys that control that, and if that's the case, I don't want to pick through the whole thing to find them

So, hopefully someone knows the answer to this question, and thanks for any help you can give me
