I remember reading something on the back of either a cereal box or some comic that has to do with this. The guy that had to give the speech was told to imagine his audience in their underwear It sounds quite far-fetched to me, but I won't make any for-sure statements yet. Other than that, there's a few things I can think of. Just be yourself is one. Act like you normally would when you're talking to people on this board or anyone similar. Don't think that just because you're up in front of people that you most likely would only talk to on a one-to-one basis that you have to be perfect. On the other side of that, don't make an arse of yourself either Maybe also let the audience know you're nervous. It'll take a lot of stress off you to not have to be perfect. There's a very good chance that three quarters of the audience would feel just the same as you if they were in your situation. I hated having to do speeches back in public school, so I'd always make sure mine wasn't that great so I wouldn't have to get up in front of everyone in the gym (edited by Karadur on 11-18-04 06:41 PM) |

Sorry for asking the obvious, but the poem is about what actually happened, and you made the poem about it, correct? I've been in school once when we heard something over the P.A. about a bomb threat. I was in French class at the time, and our teacher thought it was a fire drill Apparently someone typed up something on the computer, and either left it on the screen or printed it out and left the paper somewhere. We got to leave school, only to come back the next day and find out it was a hoax. The things people'll do to get out of school |

I'm guessing you want to be able to basically 'use' a Mac on your PC. I just did a search on google, and I found these: http://www.emulators.com/ http://www.dailywireless.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=3144 http://www.sysopt.com/reviews/macemu/ http://mes.emuunlim.com/mes/index.htm Sorry if that's not what you're looking for. |

I wonder though. Wouldn't writing that sort of thing on a desk be kind of risky? It probably wouldn't be very hard to just take a look at the handwriting on the desk compared to writing on a paper or something and see if there's any difference. That's what I wondered when it happened back in high school for me. We all had our own usernames for the computers, and there were dummy accounts that you could get into (like 'Dell' and 'ghost'), but even then, all you'd have to do is check who was logged on when the threat was typed out, and if they used an 'anonymous' account, just find out who was in the library when. It almost sounds like I'm planning something like that myself I'm not that crazy though |

Going along with what Masterofmario said, if you end up practicing your speech or whatever it is you're doing in front of someone beforehand, ask them to come along and sit in the audience. That way there's at least one person there that knows you're doing a good job, and they may even be able to give you tips, like telling you to talk louder or something. To add something to DarkSlaya's suggestion, there're three spyware programs I use on my computer Ad-Aware SE Personal Spybot: Search & Destroy Giant AntiSpyware Interestingly enough, none of those programs detect all the spyware that manages to get installed on the computer. Each program finds it's own share; Ad-Aware finds stuff in both the registry and on the hard drive. Spybot mostly finds stuff in the registry, but it's said to block most of this stuff from getting on your computer in the first place. Giant AntiSpyware likes to pick on the passport.com cookie that gets created when I log into hotmail, and it also detects some 'StartNow Hyperbar' at least once a day. The latter may be because I use a P2P program. |

I like them in some games. I'll take Tales of Symphonia (once more) for instance. Say right after you make the pact with Luna and Aska, and the Giant Kharlan Tree goes out of control, or after you beat Kratos in Torrent Forest and the Tower of Salvation starts coming down. I can't think of any other way they could have done that in the game without making it look stupid. Metroid Prime also comes to mind, at the beginning of the game after you escape from the Space Pirates' ship thing. That particular cutscene had to be the most realistic I've seen in all the games I own. As long as it looks good and contributes to the story in some way, it's good. Most games these days make their cutscenes look believable (for example, the characters' mouths move as they speak, and stop moving when they stop speaking ) The only game I found them annoying in was Halo. You'd be going through a level, and step through a door or something and a cutscene would take place. At least they made it possible to skip them, 'cause when I used to play it more when my friend still lived in Chatham, it was aggravating to suddenly lose control right when you were getting into the game. Overall, if they're used well, I like them. If not, I'll probably end up finding something else to do while it's playing. |

There's two times I can remember when I've been on some kind of screen. I haven't been *famous* per se, but I have been seen by people that didn't know me. First one was at church one Sunday. For some weird reason, they had a camera set up out front, and the people sitting down inside could see on a big screen what was going on in front of the camera, and I kept running up to the camera and making weird faces If I'd known what I was actually doing back then, I'd probably have been horribly embarassed, but that thought didn't come across my mind back then The second one was when we were doing the Christmas Concert back when I took music in high school. Some T.V. station was taping it, and my Aunt said she "saw me playing my flute on T.V." I saw the guy with the camera out of the corner of my eye the night of the concert, but I didn't think he'd decide to record me. One other one was the night of my high school graduation. I didn't know it, but I'd been chosen to get some Grade 12 music award. Once again, nothing that made me really famous, but I still got my name in the program thing they were handing out |

As soon as I found Firebird back in my first year of college I used it whenever I went on the internet. If they haven't done anything with the computers since then, you could probably tell which ones I used just by looking in a certain folder c:\WINNT\mui\0415\Firebird is where it always was Here and now, I use Firefox, although I probably could poke around and find a copy of Firebird around still. The tabbed browsing feature is a big plus, as is the mouse gestures extension (I use All-in-One Gestures). I couldn't imagine not having the popup blocker in it. The Adblock extension is nice to have, although I remember an extension for Firebird that you manually had to add in that removed more ads than it seems like are removed now. Themes are also a cool part of the browser. I think I remember seeing a site that had themes for IE, but I didn't care enough to get one back then. The only thing I use IE for now is if there's a site that won't load properly in Firefox. I didn't give anyone else that uses this computer a chance to use IE either. Everyone except my Mom (she doesn't use the computer) knows to use Firefox. |

Originally posted by Colleen Heh. If I had a choice, nobody else would use this computer. Of course, that's not possible, since my Dad bought it, but still, I'd sit here and watch what each and everyone did when they go on this computer. I went away for a night last weekend, and I came back to find pr0n URLs in the address list I installed a keylogger shortly after that, and I didn't say it, but I dare whoever looked at what they did to do it again. That's the only problem with everyone else being on limited accounts, is that my brother likes to listen to music, but all the music on the computer is in a folder on my desktop, so only I can access it. My sister wants to play some game that she downloads, but she can't install it, so I have to install it with my rights, and lo, the game won't run under a limited profile My Dad's the only one that's good for the computer, since he doesn't use it too often, and even then it's only to check / send email or some other short thing on the internet. |

Another thing that can't really be avoided with cutscenes is the repetitive ones. The only one I can think of as an example is the Tutorial for FLUDD at the beginning of Mario Sunshine. That can be easily avoided if you don't start a new game each time you go to play it. I guess what I'm trying to get at is this: if the cutscene is good, entertaining, or anything similar, I enjoy watching it, and most often I won't want to skip it. However, if it's boring or not entertaining in some way and unskippable, it makes me want to turn the game off An example of one that fits into the second description is the movie you get after you beat the skeleton pirate thing in the cave in Paper Mario 2. You just sail about for a bit after, and a boss battle does come, but there's too much talking. I don't know about others, but right when the Crump guy appeared, I knew there was going to be another boss fight, but they had to throw in a cutscene right before it (edited by Karadur on 11-19-04 12:43 AM) |

There's a good chance the ticking noise is caused by your hard drive. From what I read on some other sites, it may be from your hard drive constantly 'seeking'. I'm making a guess here, but I'd say if you want to keep the stuff that's on there right now, get it off that hard drive and onto another one. Thing is, if the hard drive is indeed failing, then that pretty much puts everything else you want to do out of the question For the next bit, let's suppose the ticking noise is a clock someone put inside the computer somehow , and thus doesn't matter. - It's Win ME I haven't heard alot of good things about that edition of Windows, but I guess as long as it works without crashing an awful amount or anything, be glad with that. I don't know whether 2000 came before or after ME, but if it's before, you could always try doing an upgrade install. If that isn't possible, you might try installing XP (if you have the CD for it), but judging by what you said, the computer wouldn't be able to run it. - It's got a ton of unneeded programs, malware, etc; dialers, too, and likely pron I'd suggest getting a spyware / adware scanner on there as soon as possible. I assume there'd already be a virus scanner, but there may not be, so you might have to consider that too. Even if you decide to try to get the stuff you want off the computer first, then format, it won't do you any good if spyware or a virus got into one of the files required for the programs you want. - It also has a ton of crap installed; mindless extras I'll never need Extras as in the stuff you'd install off the Windows CD? If that's what you're talking about, I know those sorts of things can be uninstalled. If it's programs or whatever, there should be some uninstaller for each of them that you can use, unless you have to give the computer back sometime in the future. There's probably not alot you can do in the way of keeping the programs that are on there if you format. You could copy the folders over fine, but then there's all the registry entries and other files that you'd need as well. |

I would've done something related to copying the music folder quite a while ago, except for one small thing: there's almost 8Gb of music in there (half of that is music from game soundtracks) I used to let them stay on my account so they could listen to music or whatever, but since said incident that happened over the weekend, I've changed my thinking on that. I've used the 'Run As...' option for Winamp on my brother's account a couple times, since it would let him listen to music that was stored under my profile. I might just move the music he wants to listen to over to the shared folder or somewhere in his profile. I find I don't listen to half of it anymore anyways, so I might be able to just delete the stuff nobody wants. Why couldn't they have made some sort of tool that allows you to create custom user levels? It'd save all this hassle. |

This looks quite promising so far The bushes in the first shot look like they have paint running down them to me for some reason Much better placement for the P-Switch in the second screen if you ask me Other than that, the only other thing that caught my eye is the green block thing in the last screen. Do those replace the original block-platform sort of things (like the white one in the first level of the original game)? It's looking really good right now though. I'm looking forward to playing this |

See how the cursor's now on the number 14? That's the number you want to change. I'm assuming you change it to the number of the sprite you want it to throw, in hex, of course. Same thing for the second one. Just type in 'xec36' that time. What Kratos quoted is not ASM. If you do want to try to learn ASM, I'd say to find and download SPASM if you can find it. There's a helpfile included that has short descriptions of (I'm assuming) all of the SNES's opcodes. It's up to you after that if you actually want to try to do something with ASM in a game. How stupid can you get? If I ended up in one of those situations, I'd do whatever I could to protect myself. I think one of the reasons they may do that though is that if someone were to come into the room with a gun, they'd be more likely to shoot at arm-level or somewhere up there. Of course, if you're huddled under your desk and that sort of thing happens, I'd imagine half of the class would be too afraid to move What Ziffski said really makes me wonder. I can see a bit of sense in making you get under the desks, but making you line up against the wall is the worst idea I've ever heard, unless there's some door at the end of the wall, in which case I can see them lining you up so you wouldn't crowd the door trying to get out. I personally could only see those sort of actions being taken in public schools. When you get up to high school or even college, you should be able to take care of yourself. |

Lucky you The closest we've gotten here is a bunch of rain. I personally don't have either PS2 or XBox, but I've played a bit on XBox live at my friend's house one night when he set up some trial account he got. The main thing I don't like about Live is that you have to pay for it. Sure, some of the more popular games are on that console, but I wouldn't pay. The only game I've ever played on XBox that was Live-ready was Halo 2, and knowing what happened with the first game, give 'em a bit of time and a computer version of it'll come out as well, ready for online play. I've never played whatever PS2's online play thing is called. I've played games on the actual console though. Even barring that, I'd choose this over Live, for one main reason: it's free. Maybe some of the games actually require you to pay to play them online, but that'd be the company that makes the games' choice. I really don't understand how so many people can think playing games with people they don't even know is cool. Sure. You might want to be able to say you're one of the best people in the world at such and such a game, but that's about the only novelty I can see in it. In the end, I guess it comes down to personal preference. If you want to be able to play the games over the internet, that's your choice to make |
