Those screenshots of the second level look really nice The only complaint I have with them is in the second and third pictures. The inside of the 'hill' parts (the large area that's light gray) is rather plain. Maybe at little lights or shelves with stuff on them? It's your choice to do that or not though

One other thing in the last screenshot: Why does the 4th chain in the background end abruptly, or were you aware of that already?

I didn't see anything good about him either Thinking about it though, maybe it's because he can take on any form he wants? I haven't played the game recently, so I forget exactly how it worked, but I know he could transform

I have my original SMW ROM zipped up. I put one copy on my desktop, with the IPS patch. I applied the patch to the ROM, tried playing it in ZSNES, but had no luck. I then deleted that copy of the ROM, opened a new copy in Lunar Magic, and saved the level. I tried applying the patch again, with no better results

I'm getting exactly what Kyouji and Smallhacker got.

This is what I just found in a quick search on google. Apparently the more profitable company was Nintendo, but more PSX consoles were sold than N64

Read it for yourself to see more

It very well could You could always make sure Mario had to get rid of his Cape before using Yoshi (using a custom block from Blktool). That's sort of what like Kyouji posted a couple posts up the page. I wonder if something like this would work:

Load up your SMW ROM in Evil Peer's SNES tracer, 'use' Yoshi's tongue, stop the tracing, and look in the trace file for the last thing that was written. That would show you what was 'run' when the button was pressed, I think, but from there, I'm unsure of how to go about changing the ASM to not have Yoshi's tongue come out when the button gets pressed

Well, I can help you by giving you links to the stuff I use to protect my computer, to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future (hopefully) Note that while I've had this, the only spyware that's been detected is cookies from various sites (Giant AS goes nuts with those ), and some eMule thing that's most likely on there because I have Shareaza installed.

Ad-Aware SE Personal
Giant AntiSpyware
SpywareBlaster

There's no reason you have to install all of those on your computer. I just have them all on there to be as safe as possible

Have you tried telling whoever it is in your family that caused this problem what exactly they're doing, and to stop it? I don't see why they wouldn't agree with you, unless they barely know anything about computers

1) I'd say try using YY-CHR. Load the ROM into the program, then try loading a savestate from the game using the rightmost button at the top of the window. If that doesn't work, click the big arrow buttons at the bottom right 'till the colors match what you'd see in the game. I'm pretty sure the same thing can be done in TileLayerPro, so it just depends on which tile editor you prefer

2) The screens of the sprites may have been saved with a program that's able to apply a filter to the image, to make the pixels less visible. ZSNES has a few filters like this, such as 2xSAI, Super Eagle, and Super 2xSAI, so screenshots could've been taken while the game was being played with the modified sprites, and one of those filters was applied. I only know how to achieve that effect in ZSNES, and that's through the Options -> Video window. Note that you must have a video mode selected that at least has the letter 'D' after it.

I'm not too sure where you could find tutorials on ripping tiles, but you can look here, if you want. Hopefully someone knows exactly where that sort of thing can be found though.

Nifty little program, and quite tiny too It doesn't go too well with a WindowBlinds theme applied; the box you have to click to open the menu gets placed somewhere up above the rest of the buttons

Not to sound like your program's useless, but some WindowBlinds themes place a button on the titlebar that does exactly the same thing, but without getting a choice as to how much translucency you want The hide window function is quite nice, but I can see someone forgetting they hid some windows, forget about them, and not realize the programs were open 'till they went to shut the computer down

I also noticed what you put in the calculator display in your screenshot

Well, if we're talking about the typing programs we used in school to learn how to type, I remember using one called 'Almena'. 'Typing Time' may or may not have been added after the first word; I can't remember right now

The first phrase you had to type was 'We went to the store.' That thing got typed so many times it wasn't even funny A friend who was in the same class I was got his best time down to two seconds Then there was the last long, multiple paragraphs thing on rivers and rainforests or something I never did complete that one, but if I can find the program again now, I'd try it again

Well, as far as using a player's guide, FAQ / Walkthrough, or any other thing that fits into that category, I try to avoid it if I'm at all able to. I find the game more fun to play if I'm able to figure out things myself, and possibly beat the game without looking at a guide. If I'm able to do that, then I go back and take a look at an FAQ / Walkthrough to see what sort of things I missed. Like you posted, Anya, it does ruin the game to read through the whole book ahead of time; there's no element of surprise as to what's going to come next The last player's guide I got was one for Majora's Mask. We didn't even own the game back then. I'd just bought it because I liked Zelda games

The only Gameshark we ever had was for N64, and my brother busted that by opening it up and 'unknowingly' touching all the stuff inside Most of the time I use those things to try to make a code for infinite money, or infinite health or something. As long as I'm not able to just go into a list and pick what cheats I want to enable, it's fine by me. Unfortuantely, 70% of the people that buy one of those won't ever think of trying to make their own codes.

Then, there's also the things you wouldn't be able to get in games normally. Stuff that's otherwise not been used in the final version of the game, that you can only get to through a code / codes.

In short, if you're going to cheat, as long as you put some personal effort into getting as far through the game as you can beforehand, you're trying to make your own cheats, or you need it for something that's not accessible in the game normally, I don't see anything wrong with it

It's most likely painfully obvious, but something's wrong with your game If none of your other games worked, I'd say it was something with your Gamecube, but when one specifically doesn't work, it's something wrong with the disc.

Where have you been storing the game while you weren't playing it? I'd assume in the game box (that's where I keep mine, and it's still working fine), but it may not be. Take a look at it and see if there's any big scratches on the bottom. If there are, or if there aren't, I'd advise trying to exchange your copy of the game, or get a refund if you still have the receipt.

One last question for you: how long ago did this start happening to your game?

I forgot to add something to my first post. I do use walkthroughs for some games right from the start, but they all into the category of ROMs that are Japanese, with no translation patch released. I don't read the language (although I'm trying to learn it ), so it's quite hard to figure out where to go and what to do. Of course, if I continue on this, it'd belong in the Emu Ethics thread instead, so I'll stop there.

For the same friend, he used FAQ's for nearly the entire Metroid Prime game. And guess what? When I go on and on about how wonderful that game is he's just kind "ugh yeah sure". Why? Maybe because he didn't get the fun of figuring out things for himself, exploring the world to his extent, getting the satisfaction of finding items alone, playing the game?

I went through the game probably the same way you did. The only help I had was the thing that pops up periodically with a hint, telling you to press 'Z' to see where to go on the map.

That's another thing right there. What about the hint systems they put in games? What's your opinion on those? Personally, I think that if they don't spoil a whole lot of the game (guiding you through every step) they're just fine being there. The only example I've seen of that is in Metroid Prime, and there was an option to turn that off anyways.

The one purchase you can make in the GRADE shop in Tales of Symphonia also comes to mind. If you've collected 3000 GRADE, you can 'buy' something that multiplies whatever experience you get at the end of a battle by 10. This, as I found on my 3rd or 4th playthrough, makes the game quite easy on lower difficulties. Do you think it's ok to choose that option, keeping in mind that you wouldn't have enough GRADE needed to buy it 'till your 2nd or 3rd play of the game?

Back on the topic of what Xeogred said, I can understand why your friend didn't seem to think the game was all that great. He was just guided through everything, and pretty much didn't get to do anything himself except control Samus. The bosses might've been a bit exciting, but still, I like it better when I beat any boss in any game, without knowing beforehand what to do when I fought it.

Here's another question for you. If you don't have a younger sibling, or if you're off living on your own, just assume you do for this bit. They're playing the game, but they've got themselves stuck at a part that you know how to get through, but they obviously don't. Let's say they ask you how to get through it. Do you tell them, or do you leave them to figure it out themselves? I'd rather leave them to figure it out themselves, but from my experiences, they won't stop bugging you 'till you tell them what to do

Exactly. As long as your make your best effort to beat the game without help once, I see no problem with going through it again and cheating.

Nice trick to make things faster I think I saw something similar to this on some other site dealing with Firefox or Firebird, but I could never remember where exactly it was. This appears to work just as well though.

I chose the option with the big blue bar beside it Although I like singing to other songs that I'm listening to on my computer or something, I'm not about to go out singing at people's doors

Like I said in the other thread, I prefer to wear pants without zippers, if at all possible. Since it's winter right now, I mostly wear sweat pants, but sometimes I'll come down in my shorts in the morning.

So, pull down whatever I'm wearing on the lower half of my body, and do what needs to be done

That idea's fine, if it wasn't for the whole thing about not being able to provide links to ROMs I understand that you're frustrated at this, but if you really want to do that, try PM'img FuSoYa or BMF, explain your problem, and see what they say.

Another crazy idea: what about making an IPS patch of the version of the SMW ROM you have right now (unmodified), so we can apply it to a copy of our originals, and then apply your patch? I'm not sure if it'd work that way, but it can't hurt

Wow. Only 6 NES games? Not trying to brag or anything, but we've got 38 sitting over on the dining room shelf, not counting duplicates or anything. Amazingly enough, they all still work with a little bit of work. What games do you have?

On that topic, suprisingly, our NES controllers still work, but the ones for the N64 won't It's good to hear you got yours fixed What exactly was wrong with them?

I'd think the hardest types to do would be casino / gambling games I've only ever played 1 of those, but I still imagine they'd require quite a bit of luck.
