I also don't want to get involved too much, but I just want to say a few things:

1.) one quote on romhacking - "whether it's ethical or not, or lacks "originality", we're all here for one purpose: to infringe copyrights and enjoy doing it" - DD

2.) about LM - they're suppose to help you romhack, not do the whole thing for you, have you ever seen an "fully completed editor for one game"? No of course not, LM edits lots of things already, but it's not complete. A software can never be fully complete, you need to understand that, if say if, Fusoya does what you want in the editor now, later people is going to demand more, you get the point? Is somebody going to spend all these time doing maintainance to the software?

3.) about ASM hacks - sure if an editor is able to do some ASM mods, sure it's nice but, you need to know "Quality comes with Time", if you can produce this 'awesome-looking' hack in 30 hours, why won't anyone else do the same and he might just spend 40 hours to do a even better one? DD's MA took like a year or so, guess how that one turned out? How about GameMakr's ZeldaC? same thing here, took 1 year, there was no tools for dungeon editing back then, did that fail to impress people back then? It's all about how people can see the amount of work you've done in a hack. If something can be achieved in a short time, a lot of people with some skills will attempt to do the same. Why do people want to spend that much time on hacking then? I think i've quoted the answer already.

*braces for some flame war*

*agrees with above*

I remember hearing a while ago that "it was the last thing i need to do in my hack!"

heh.

In HM -> go to any room in dungeon -> right click -> edit blocks -> enter the number which the gfx appears in, then do some copy, edit and pasting

For what number to put into the game, go to that Hyrule Magic Faq thread over at Tek hacks, i believe there's a long list of what each set of blocks are somewhere in there.

Just release it.

I'd like to see how much work you've really done.

as for a website, you can always do it later.

Not true. You can edit all of that stuff easily. When you are editing the exits, you need to put the door locations where the house is. There should be a tutorial about this at the tekhacks message board.

nope it seems to be data, but it seems to be like an annoying 3 byte value which is hard to find.

And also the offsets Seph3 gave me didn't help

And i think what some people is after are completely new overworld areas i guess

something like this (i guess):

heh, just throwing screenshots i done long time ago around (you'll notice it with the time )

random it is, but you can fix the bugs with a hex editor.

apparently the most unstable thing i notice is the items, the rest are stable-enough to make a decent hack out of it.

yes they can be fixed already, even Seph3 says they can. (he says HM doesn't have that bug but...)

You just need to get dirty in hex.

some simple code to read bytes from file:

FILE* in = fopen(filename, "rb");
char somebyte;
fseek(in, 0x10000, SEEK_SET);
fscanf("%c", &somebyte);

That should get you the byte at offset 0x10000... I'm pretty sure.

I'm not really a c++ programmer, i'm more of a C programmer.

imo you should start reading about C then go to c++.

And yes %c gets 8 bits (1 byte) which is mostly used in romhacking (no point getting 16 bits in little endian form with %d )

You can also read up on %X(%x), it suppose to read hex from keyboard, however i have never got it to work.

wow this thread grew.

I believe the Chris Houlihan room has something to do with the placing of the item 80-Hole, but then, even i have problems with that damned room.

somebody was asking for my "site of screens"? I haven't made one yet, i just stacked those pics in my geocities account , try different numbers, you might find other pics i've uploaded.

you want me to work with you ppl in a group hack? sure but... you need to know that i want to finish my own hack first (probably like ~60% finished already)

you people are making me wanting to release a hack of the light overworld which i've done already! but to keep the surprise of the dark world i might not (and plus... only like 3% of the monologue has been edited)...

you ppl need to know, a full scaled hack (that is, everything rearranged) can't be done without using a hex editor... believe me... (take credits text as example)

I know why youve only done 3% monologue Euclid...its because theres a crazy shit amount of it. Plus as ive done before you can completely screw up a story if you make a character say too much too early. You need to show more screenshots Euclid. WHat ive seen so far looks excellent. My own website was really less to do with releasing Zelda stuff (which is what the forums are for) but more of just a testing ground for my html, CSS and flash skills.

You should try it. You pick up loads if you focus a web on something that your in the process of working on.

maybe i should, but then, time is something which is against me here, i know some really basic (what i mean basic, as in only know how to do links and pics) html

there's nothing wrong with keeping the surprise until i'm 90% completed (then i can have some solid screenshots, not these beta ones which can change anytime)

As for the psycho items, hex editor is also your friend there.

actually... now that i've figured out how to lock the rom (it may have side-effects) i might release the hack from start -> dark world. (with no monologue changed)

Well, here goes nothing.

for starters, this is a hack of Zelda 3 (duh!) with more than 80% of the areas rearranged.

You'll still notice some which looks familiar, that's because:
1. it looked good already
2. i'm too lazy
3. back when i done these, i wasn't too skilled with HM (this is probably the better explaination )

with this hack you can play from the start to the start of dark world.

Text hasn't been edited all that much (but some has), signs don't work in game.

This is really just a demo, as for reporting bugs, i believe i have a long list of bug report already.

And finally, don't even think about opening it in HM! (maybe if you did crack the code, i still have proof in there that it's my hack )

Okay screenies for overworld in no particular order(note some screens might be a bit old, but meh it should look the same):

And Here's the patch: http://www.geocities.com/libercy/TowerOfTheTriforce/TotTdemo1.zip (right click -> save as)

Enjoy!

EDIT: sorry for those people who find a 404, i was uploading it.

There, released demo of the light world.

you don't know what's hex?

Well hex is just a way to represent numbers, with a base of 16, hex uses A-F to represent 10-15 respectively.

hex editor is just a way to edit those number

yep, the whole overworld is finished, but i've closed off areas in dark world so you can't wander around it in this demo (because caves ain't completed in there)

I hate it when it happens (but it does sometimes, and it's annoying), just exit houlian's room, and you'll notice you're close the the guardhouse.

Omega - I search, and modified the ones i didn't use.

and also as to where to go, you first have to head into the mountains, move around in those caves (to find lamp), go through the mountains, you should see Salharasla's place... then i've played a cruel trick... (just go in and exit and play on... you'll see)

if you somehow ended up in houlian's room, well... just skip the mountain bit then.
