Wow, I'm glad I've got my edit CSS thingy on hand. The badgers thing is annoying me. My sentances are broken up becouse it numbs my mind. I'm going to go ruin another thread now though, thanks for the inspiration. sploosh.

Messing with the body tag is meanspirited and evil. I kinda like it.

I tried to find it but couldn't, so I'll ask: Doesn't Ace use some manner of CSS to cut down on how much HTML is made for each user's post layout and such?

I barely remember your hack, but I do remember that it made me consider you to be one of the gods of SMW hacking. And that's a position normally reserved for people who rip the game's code appart.

Keep hacking, you know you want to.

1) Mostly nice, but I don't like your conveyer belt graphics. You should get something new, unless they look a lot better in game than they do here. Also, I don't like large clumps of 16x16 blocks. If you can, you should get some graphics for them that flow together, like the lower part of your castle turrets in other screens.
2) Nothing new to add, except that I like your ladders.
3) Looks good, nothing to add.
4) The sides of the water look weird. Also, more of the 16x16 thing that looks bad in large amounts. Otherwise good.
5) Very nice, except for the top of the tower. It doesn't work at all with the rest of it. Also, I like your platform grafics better in the next picture.
6) Same as last one, except this time the graphics for the floating platform are nicer. Nice looking.
7,8,9) The only complaint I have about these is, once again, the large number of 16x16 tiles.
10)The background is really bland at this area. Unless it wouldn't work with the rest of the level, you should move things around so the upper half is visable here. Also, what on earth is happening on that cloud?
11,12,13) All very nice.
14,15) The tiles get kinda repetative in spots here. It takes away from the better looking portions.
16) Nice nice.
17,18) Once again, the repetative tiles get annoying. Otherwise nice.

I like the looks of your hack, despite the negative sounding comments. I'll look forward to the release.

I find that mildly amusing. I don't remember that program though. What is it/where is it from?

...

Oh, and while we're doing odd desktops:

I had that for the longest time. Yes, those fish are one of XP's default backgrounds. No, I'm not sure why I put them in space.

Step by step guide for Kitten Yiffer to realise what's going on:
1) View file path on Portman pic.
2) Copy file name into Google image search.
3) Look at results.
4) Realise what's going on.

WIN!
Motion to win seconded. I'm going to try to figure out how to make some of that stuff now. I think I could make bubble wrap that pops more than once, but I can't think of a way to keep the air supply in the bubbles up.

Clarifying on what WhyDee said; converts don't cost anything, get as many as you want. Just don't make them archers or anything.

As for the huge guys, it's best to remove them with your wizards, archers, and if everything else isn't available, demo men. However, you can alledgedly kill them by knocking them over ten times. I've yet to test that one, since I always had them die of archers before I could do that.

The pros have done it before, as you can see if you look at FF for the WSC, or any of a dozen GBA games.. but I can't think of any ROM hacks that would count. I once hacked a Metroid 2 for the GB to work with the GBC, but that hardly counts since I used a utility and all my work was trivial in comparison to what it did (Though it wouldn't be if I finished. That's a different story entirely though.).

Posted on 05-18-04 11:46 PM, in Drawing quickly in VB Link
I'm making a simple game in VB as practice for colision detection and such. When the game starts, it randomly generates some terrain. In it, the player puts in some numbers, hits a button, and watches his tank fire a shell in a manner according to the numbers. Once it hits the ground, it blows up, and takes some ground with it.

Everything works fine, but there are a few things I'd like to know if I could do. I fill in the terrain by making a number of vertical lines, as you can probably see since I randomly vary their color. My original plan was to section off the bottom with lines and then use a fill function to fill the area, but I coudn't find a function to fill the area.
Question one: does a fill function exist? (I'm perfectly willing to call outside libraries and such, I'd just need to know what to call exactly).

Anyway, I quite like the color variation I've implemented, except for the fact that it's only vertical. I tried filling each line pixel by pixel, but even before adding a varied color (which would need another extra bit of processing to check the pixel next to it) it would start taking quite a while to proccess. So that brings up a second question.
Question two: is there a faster way to draw in individual pixels? The only fast drawing technique I know is bitblt, and I don't really think that helps in any manner here.

Posted on 05-22-04 09:03 PM, in New Zelda Game Link
The new game looks amazing.
In the video, I like that the entire thing looks like game footage (with the obvious exceptions appearing to be cutseens rather than video clips). I can't wait to try horse-mounted combat (like Fyxe, I think it's game footage). I like how they decided to make Link cute. The only thing in it that I don't like is the fire demon type thing. The effects and such are amazing, but the enemy itself looks unfit. I like my fire demons to look like they could cremate the hero even without their magical powers (for an example, see the Infernals from Warcraft 3).

To people arguing:
People who don't play games becouse they're "childish" should be stabbed.
People without any writing style who try to make long paragraphs should be stabbed.
People who write entire paragraphs in parenthesis should be stabbed.
People who think saying the same thing over and over again will sway people to their point should be stabbed.
People who insult people for liking/disliking a game should be stabbed. However, people who insult people for having stupid reasons to like/dislike a game are perfectly fine.

And lastly, as a response to people yelling about what Zelda game was best:
The first one was great, except for the stabbing. It's a shame they didn't come up with making Link swing his sword for a while yet.
The second one was cool (*ducks a tomato*). Play controll was lousy though; I like my play controll snappy and crisp, like in Conquest of the Crystal Palace (NES), Demon's Crest (SNES), and Wind Waker (GCN)
Link to the Past was spiffy.
Link's awakening is one of my favorites. Snappy play controll and the Roc's Feather. Yay.
Occerina of Time was alright. Some of the later levels annoyed me. No, I don't remember specifically why.
Majora's Mask was alright. There should've been more places to swim around in the Zora's Mask. I didn't replay it, so I'm not sure it could've been that great.
Wind Waker was ownage; but I've got three complaints. Barel-hiding sucks. There weren't enough good battles (A few battles with squads of Darknut difficulty foes that weren't all Darknuts would be perfect). And they managed to make Re-Deads look utterly stupid.

Before yesterday, I had only played half a game, which I failed at miserably becouse I started inching forward and my feet were hitting things other than arrows.

However, I played yesterday for an hour (alternating with someone else). It was great fun, and I actually passed a moderately hard song on light! (No clue which though). By the end I was close to beating my friend who had two hours of experiance. Oh, and it was fun.
