Just out of curiosity, is there actually a way to get through level 1-2? I've been trying for about three hours now and I'm pretty sure I've tried every combination possible.

Other than that, very nice work! Heheh.

One of my roommates and I worked on level 1-2 collectively for about three or four hours, but it's done.

Can't wait until the final version is released. This should keep us busy for the rest of the semester...

Hey,

The hack looks fantastic!

Unfortunately, regarding the Zophar demo, the patch doesn't, actually... well, change anything. None of the enemies on the stage select screen were blacked out and none of the levels appeared to have any changes at all...? I could still charge my megabuster, too...

I did, however, start out with Gyro Man's weapon, which was fun to play around with on its own...

As far as I know my version of Mega Man V is complete and normal...

What the devil is going on!

Either way, as far as your progress goes, congratulations -- this looks like one of the, if not the most extensive of any Mega Man hack I've ever seen. The graphics look like genuine Capcom graphics, while still looking fresh and original -- something about them looks very different from the original games, but in a good way.

The new Mega Man sprite looks like a cross between a Mega Man robot master and -- for some reason -- the original Batman game for the NES. Heheh... Something about the shading I think...

Anyhoo, I'm really excited to play the next demo once it's out (or hopefully the finished game!), best of luck to you and keep us posted.

It's not so much the difficulty as the terrible controls. Mario jumps up half the screen height then floats down slowly, usually directly onto an enemy somehow...

Not sure why I'm enjoying that so much, it's just so... different.

Hard Man always reminded me of Dive Man, at least in appearance, and his hard knuckle could easily become a torpedo. Unless, of course, you're looking for all MM2 characters.

How about Quick Man replacing Top Man (his top attack has a similar pattern to Quickman's quick boomerang). Not sure what you'd do about Mega Man's top spin attack, though.

That's why Mega Man 3 was always the worst to hack -- for many reasons it's the easiest, but it's so different from all the others... trying to find a logical reason for the Doc Robots and another robot master that splits himself into two is always off-putting.

Anyway, Mega Man 3 was always my favourite of the whole series, so whatever comes of your hack, keep us all informed!

No, the other way around. Importing Mario graphics into the Tiny Toons game for the NES.

I had the idea myself, but... you know. With the laziness?

I'm liking the way this is coming along.

The level designs look original enough to be fun, but they don't look RIDICULOUSLY difficult, which is a problem I see with a lot of hacks. I mean, I like to be challeneged, but a level should never, ever be designed so that it practically has to be played using save states. Your levels, on the other hand, appear faithful enough to look like they might have been actually present in the original cartridge, without being easily recognizable as levels already present in the game (another big problem I see with a lot of hacks) -- I like, I like...

The only thing, maybe, is that the palette -- especially on the underwater level -- seems overly blue? Which, I don't know, might be some kind of theme or motif that fits with the game...

Either way, I personally am excited to play your hack, keep us all updated.

Yep, they're not actually text, so you'd need to hack the graphics for each weapon.

Unfortunately, I don't know where, exactly, they're located off the top of me noggin...

Interesting little side note regarding that...

I stumbled across a trick to getting infinite mics in Kirby's Adventure that I haven't seen posted anywhere else (so keep in on the downlow, everyone! Heheh).

In Vs. Boss mode, fight Whispy Woods, then fight Paint Roller until exactly half of her energy bar is depleted. Then wait for her to paint a microphone. This is easy because she is still in "wait" mode, so she won't chase you around immediately after painting a picture, leaving you plenty of time to get away from her if she paints anything other than a mic.

When she paints the mic, swallow it and use it twice. Get to the middle of the room to the approximate location of where the star wand will appear and use the third mic. You will instantly get the star wand and move on to the next boss... and have unlimited mics.

The only downside to this trick is that you can only use it on the next three bosses -- after that it's Meta Knight, and you have to get the sword ability. But it's fun while it lasts -- especially if you can make it up to the top of Kracko's stage without losing your power. That takes a bit of skill, but -- hey, I'm a master, right?

Anyway, maybe this doesn't belong here, but when the hell else is someone going to bring up the mic ability in Kirby's Adventure, right? And who knows, maybe that will somehow tie-in to figuring out the data, eh? Heh, yeah, that's why I posted here...

Very cool hack.

Level three was a real pisser, but I finally got it! And the first time I tried, I actually did manage to get that "phantom" coin that's half off the screen, but only the first time -- weird.

Hey,

Obviously this isn't your problem, as everyone else seems to be able to use it all right, but I seem to be having some trouble. I've tried applying both patches to both ROMs (even tried switching them around to see if something got mixed up somewhere -- applying _01 to the PRG-0, for instance), but I can't seem to get any of them to work, and I didn't see any other special comments in the readme file... I even tried three different IPS patchers, thinking mine was effed up, but I still got the same results;

Every time I patch it, the title screen loads, the map loads, I move Luigi to level one and start, the screen fades out... and the game freezes.

Anybody have any ideas? I've patched both of these ROMs plenty of times before, so as far as I know they're not corrupt.

Way to make me feel like an ass!

Well, this is what happens when you get too excited to pay attention to the important details.

And now, to test...

In addition to the aformentioned, I'd like to add that, in the first doom ship...

I jumped on the koopaling while I was on the center podium, he reverted into his shell, which spun around, and jumped up as normal -- except it jumped up and to the right, right off the screen! He never came back down and I had to wait until time ran out to try again.

The only other problems I had were that a few of the levels were too recognizable to the originals... 1-2 and 1-5, specifically.

Other than that, pretty cool -- Mouser actually made me laugh; wasn't expecting that!

You should definitely hack the palettes. It's so easy, and it'll enhance the "legitimacy" of the hack tenfold.

In terms of the graphics, at least.
