Posted on 03-15-04 04:39 AM, in All the right Equipment Link

A couple goes on vacation to a fishing resort in northern Minnesota.

The husband likes to fish at the crack of dawn.

The wife likes to read.

One morning the husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.

Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out.

She motors out a short distance, anchors, and continues to read her book.

Along comes a game warden in his boat.

He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning Ma'am. What are you
doing?"

"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious?").

"You're in a restricted fishing area," he informs her.

"I'm sorry officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."

"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.

"But I haven't touched you," says the game warden.

"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."

"Have a nice day ma'am", he replied, and left.

MORAL: NEVER ARGUE WITH A WOMAN WHO READS. IT'S LIKELY SHE CAN ALSO THINK.

Just wanted to create a poll about the new server..... which *cough* someone I *cough* know runs.....

If you'd like to show your support for Acmlm's forum, please use

http://www.fiftypounds.com

For your future or current webhosting needs.

It's the customers who subsidise the server, and allow me to in turn, host Acmlm's board for free.

Our cheapest plan is $5 a month for 500 Megs of harddrive space. and 15 Gigs of bandwidth.

Don't let these providers who go OMG Unlimited bandwidth and OMG 98734783 Gigs of bandwidth fool you. They only offer it to you, cause they KNOW you won't use it, and most people think "More is better".

Acmlm had Unlimited Bandwidth on Overclocked.org

but I don't think any of us could maintain that Overclocked.org is a better host than Fiftypounds.com... now could we ??

any of you that voted for not seeing a speed difference

are most likely on Dialup

so you wouldn't notice

if you bother to look at the very bottom of the page every now and then though

you'd see plainly.....

that.... the page generation times are usually under 1 second.....

the average page gen time on Overclocked was probably about 2+ seconds....

Average here would be about .... .4 seconds

well most likely OC.org kept throwing more and more stuff on their free servers....

my board has 140,000 posts and the load times on all pages are slightly above this.....

but I'm doing alot more SQL on most of my pages too... so it makes sense.....

lol yes X... we all know how much you love me....

I'm sure you didn't probably make that number up.....

and of course ... in certain situations certain pages may take... a little longer to run than others.....

but on the whole.... nobody can dispute the fact... that on the average.... the page generation times are -signifigantly- faster than they were before...

Jesper... no we wouldn't....

note....
unsupported.....
end note....

I had no "migration" script from 1.8a to 1.9

I simply looked at the new database structure

looked at the old database structure

and figured it out....

and alot of people, would probably just use a public 1.9 release, as an excuse to just restart their board....

My webhost is currently experiencing connectivity Issues with one of their uplinks...

specifically ALGX.net

if you experience trouble connecting to the board, please contact someone online NOT in your area to see if they are having trouble as well

This recent ALGX downtime was fixed within the hour.....

Thanks....

why do I need to be an admin ??

1) there are already like 8 admins
2) if something uber hardcore urgent comes up and magically one of the EIGHT admins aren't around... I'm sure Acmlm / Emuz trust me enough to handle it in a manner they would agree with

other than that....

I don't really participate on this board enough, to be an admin

1.92 is definitely hardcore far superior to 1.8a

Acmlm would be doing the community a large favor to say the least, by publically releasing 1.92 and the SQL Strucutre, with no Upgrade / Migration scripts

if they waited till things were "perfect" then there would be no beta, considering as that's why it exists in the first place

is to test for bugs and gameplay inbalances which all chip away at "perfection"

lol but I know what you mean Colleen

*sigh*

1) buying an account on ANOTHER Webhost doesn't help Subsidise Acmlm's board CyMORON
2) there is no cache server
3) I'm glad none of you know how SQL Works..... My board is the EXACT same speed as this one right now.... and I have MORE SQL Queries and my Database is like 60 times the total size.....
Having a big ass database only makes certain tasks take longer

thread.php newreply.php index.php and forum.php profile.php etc.....

are not any of those tasks.....

the thing that directly affects those pages..... is server load.....

I asked Jesper to make a logo... but he didn't... so one of my investors did....

Acmlm could just as easily make a new Powered by logo as I can have one 45 tall made....
Emuz's Paypal image won't match either Mine OR the Acmlm image, unless he manufactures his own.....
