Hey, don't forget me! I'm new too, although only to this board. Same uni and course as my two colleagues above, with vaguely off the wall interests, anyone that cares can ask if they want to know.

Wow, it's nice to finally find some more metalheads for once!

Just to get my opinion of Ensiferum out of the way, they are pretty good, but Finntroll are better, if you haven't checked them out yet, do so! Go to The Finntroll Homepage and learn more.

You should, Immortal are very, very good. Sons of Northern Darkness is one of the few albums I can listen to on repeat forever.

What sort of things are people into around here? I prefer Death/Black metal, but I also like bands like Dream Theater.

I'm shocked that nobody has mentioned Hammerfall, Rhapsody or Grave Digger yet. I wasn't too impressed with Helloween when I saw them at Wacken, but Grave Digger blew me away

I luuuuuuurve metal, but within that I'm normally flitting around between genres. Example: Dream Theater are probably my favourite band, but my favourite genres are Death and Black Metal, because I'm a viking warrior. Other than metal, I like some proper hip hop, anime themes, and game soundtracks, because I find them to be a bit more relaxing than balls to the wall metal all the time.

That said, there's nothing like a good headbang \m/

I also have a liking for discworld books. But my favourite author is H.P. Lovecraft. There's something about the way he writes that's so descriptive, and at the same time he only ever hints at things.

Hmmm, I gave up on LOTR about halfway through Return Of The King, simply because I put the book down and didn't pick it up again. I'd carry on now but I can't remember where I left off

My hair is over half a metre in length now, when I straighten it out it comes down to my arse.

Long hair is the best! Great for windmill headbanging, an unexpected way to hit someone etc.

How does your hair grow? Mine's wavy, which takes some of the fun out of having long hair, but I've not seen your hair long before, so I don't know if it'll look good or not

I've played pretty much every Resident Evil, and I've played Silent Hill. The only game that's ever truly terrified me is Doom 3. This game has had me on the edge of my seat, it's that scary for me. ome people might not find it scary at all, that's fine, but I think it's the scariest game I've ever played.

I just love how creationists can base all of their arguments regarding the nature of the universe and man, on a character that they can't actually prove exists.

Whenever people get together to talk about FF8, the main stumbling blocks seem to be two things:

1) The Draw system
2) The enemy level system

To address these points:

1) The main complaint I hear is "WTF!?!?! I HAV 2 SPEND A HOUR DRAWIN MAGIK FROM DIS ENEMI?!?"

Actually you can get magic in quite a lot of ways, the junction system is quite flexible about this. If you take the time to level up your GFs you can gain the ability to refine any sort of magic from both the triple triad cards, and your regular items. So to all the people who argue about this I say: You clearly don't know how to play the game.

2) Again the main complaint I hear goes along the lines of "WTF?!?!?! WAT RITE DUZ A MONSTA HAVE 2 LVBUTZ????"

The monsters level up so that they (theoretically) should always be able to provide a challenge. Although if people actually looked at the monsters, they'd realise that all of the monsters have proportional stats, so an easy monster will still be easy even if it is a higher level. The other reason for the monster levelling could be that at higher levels their drops and draw magic are changed, so you get relatively useful items/magic, even when you're at a high level.

There are other arguments that people put forward, like upgrading weapons is stupid, and GFs make the game easy. These arguments, to me, just smack of lazy people wanting the easy way through the game. Uprading weapons is no different to finding new weapons, you just have to find some parts. The only challenge is getting everything for everyone's final weapons. Upgrading weapons is also not neccessary to complete the game, although it makes it a lot easier.
As for GFs making the game easy, I believe that the fashion in which they are summoned balances them. Remember, they only heal when you use a GF heal item on them (Who does that?), or when you rest in an inn or tent. Animations were also not tediously long, with the exception of eden.

Sorry for the rant, but I love FF8, it's my favourite Final Fantasy, and whenever I hear people bitching about it, it normally boils down to them not being bothered to learn the system or play the game properly.

Whilst I can completely agree with what you say here, with respect, the burden of proof is not on me. Unless somebody can undeniably prove the existance of God to me, and he tells me that the Bible is in fact the holy word, and not just a bunch of nice stories, I'll stick to being a believer in the Norse Gods. At least they supposedly do interesting things, like drink all day.

But I don't care and am just patient (I'm somwhow nearly .. jealous when seeing people outside showing their precious long hair - it's a damn long time I have to wait; but it will be worth doing it )

Yeah, if I leave mine down, it goes everywhere, and even though i condition it every morning, it still goes into mini dreads by the end of the day

How long do you plan on growing yours then? And how often do you plan on getting it trimmed? It's taken three and a half years nearly for mine to get to the length it is now, without getting it cut once . If I'd got it trimmed regularly though it would probably be even longer

There was a sequel for D which was one of the launch games for the Dreamcast. That was supposed to be scary, but it never got released outside Japan AFAIK.

I see what you mean. Thats not too bad though. If you leave it like mine it'll eventually mane out - I've got wisps growing at the base of my neck that just *won't* go into my pony tail

EDIT: I'll try to get a pic of myself, or maybe just my hair, up in a bit, then y'all can see what it's like to have a mane

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Flare is by far the easiest to obtain, I had a glut of the stones that refine to flare, Ruby dragons drop the items you need, so I had loads of copies of it. The other spells are slightly harder to obtain, but Holy refines from Moon stones which Toramas drop at mid to high levels - there are plenty of them in Esthar, and Ultima refines from Star fragments, which Iron Giants of all levels can drop. If you know which items you need, you can get all of these powerful spells, which you otherwise have to use secret draw points to obtain.

Gawd, they are the BEST books ever.

Try reading the books called the Elenium.

It starts off with a book called "The Diamond Throne"

I havent' gotten to reading his first series yet.

However, he has some of the BEST characters ever. Sparhawk shall rule thee.

Yup I've read those, although i think the folowing series, The Tamuli is much better.
David Gemmel (sp?) is also a very good writer, as is Robin Hobb, if you like fantasy.
