That is a damn fine looking overworld. I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

I'm using large event tiles on my submap now and I've had no problem. I've also never had a problem in the past. Double check everything to make sure you have it set up properly.

One thing I've learned from making backgrounds is that bright, vibrant colors are often out of place, and to NEVER use black lines. Do this, and your custom backgrounds will look twenty times better, believe me.

I should have said "dark outlines" and it would have made more sense in context, I suppose.

Directed to all you ExGFX naysayers, just plain gameplay isn't going to count it anymore. If someone downloading a hack has to choose between a hack with good gameplay or a hack with good gameplay AND new graphics, guess which one they are going to choose. And most ExGFX isn't overused to the point that most SMAS stuff is. Especially the donated hand-made stuff that I've yet to even see in a hack yet.

And I can't think of any ExGFX that I would consider "shit." Examples would be nice next time you say something like that, Blisseh.

I was busy chugging along, exporting levels to file, and importing than back to a clean file to cut down on unnecessary clutter in the ROM. Unfortunately, sometimes when I import a level, the graphics files are all screwed up. Specifically, every single GFX file was GFX00. It reverted to the GFX files that the previous level (the one being replaced by the import process) when I opened up a GFX dialogue box and pressed OK. I believe it has something to do with ExGFX bypassing, both Super and the old version. I don't know exactly what is causing it, but any insight into why this happens and how I can avoid it would be beneficial. I'll try to recreate it if you ask me to.

Some of the levels imported just fine. I'll check which bypasses the problem levels were using, and get back to you.

EDIT: I think I've discovered the problem. It looks like I was using the old bypass, which as you probably know, has the Custom List Index. Apparently, exporting the level doesn't export the list, but it does remember which number it should be reading from. Since there is nothing there, it just puts 00 into everything. Now I can avoid it, but it would be nice if Fu addressed this in the help file (if he hasn't already) or possibly fix it in a later version (if there IS a later version).

I didn't even think to look for an export for the bypass list. Thanks a bundle!

In case anyone else was unaware, it's under File, Graphics, Export/Import Bypass List.

Previous thread: Here

The new switch palace is finished, done in the Casino Theme you might recognize from my last thread. The featured palace is the heart themed one. As you might imagine, instead of colors, each palace has a card suit theme. Check the below screenshots for samples from the level. I made sure I took a screenshot for each unique element. Angelfire has been slow for me, so give them a little bit to load if they don't appear right away.

Now, about the Near Completion from the topic title. The first world demo is almost complete! All I must do now is finish the castle, fix up a couple palettes that I've been putting off because I'm lazy, and it will be ready for public release. I know at least some of you have been looking forward to this for a while, and at least you'll be satiated for a little bit before you beat it. Before the public release, however, I will need a couple of people to beta test. I'll take applications now, and I'll send out copies when the castle is finished.

Oh yeah, I forgot I had taken a shot of the Suit blocks. They behave just like their counterparts. Hearts will give mushrooms, and spades will give feathers. I've been considering reversing the colors, just for the hell of it.

You can also see my candy-themed replacement of the bone float.

Beta testers will not be chosen on first come, first serve. I'll try to select them based on merit, either by hacks they themselves have released, or general knowhow they have demonstrated in the past.

just a question... if each block is a different suit, how you going to have blocks of multiple suits on the same level since they all use the same graphic? Even if you change the default graphic for each block using some round-a-bout ways, there's still the problem of when you hit it, it always uses the default graphic for a ! block. Has LM somehow remedied these problems and I don't know yet?

Actually, it looks like the blocks momentarily turn into turn blocks in the original and my hack. It doesn't really look odd because I haven't changed the turn blocks. On the subject of not enough space for the different suit blocks, I've already addressed that. Each block only needs two 8x8's reflected over the y for the entire block, so that means I'll only need eight 8x8's. Four are already being used by the original switch blocks, and the final four replace the bottom of the bullet bill cannon (which I won't be using in my hack, at least at this time).

It looks like you might have actually hit some graphics stuff, probably the TSA. Notice how the corrupted level keeps the same shape as the unaltered level, only the graphics are garbled.

EDIT: Just noticed that you already mentioned what I did, but I hope what I said was more specific.

There should be some pointer you can change somewhere, but I've got no damn clue where it is. BMF might, seeing as how he knows a lot of things. One of the other more indepth hackers might as well.

Two ExGFX files can't have the same number after insertion. You should have extracted what Demo World had before, so you know what numbers not to overwrite. Live and learn, so they say.

I still would like to be able to make global tile changes directly in Lunar Magic, though I doubt it will ever happen. I at least know enough programming now to make my own utility for it, though, so all is not lost.

I've been following the project, but since I know next to nothing about "in-depth" hacking, I have nothing to add. I would like to see it finished, though.
