Since all my old stuff is now longer easily veiwable, I might as well archive it here. For those who don't know, JAMH = Just Another Mario Hack, a hack I've been working on for a year or so now (with hardly any progress, college isn't nearly as easy as high school). Note that I won't post all of them I have, my bandwidth only stretches so far after all, but I'll post enough so you can see all I've done. So without further adieu, the screenshots!

I only need to make 2 more levels before the demo, but at my current rate, who knows when that will be. Have no fear, however, this will be the first place I notify when the demo is finished.

If you can't pinpoint what exactly doesn't make it Mario like, how do you expect me to take you seriously? I've gone out of my way to try and make the graphics not look out of place.

All graphics are made with Lunar Magic, more or less. In the rare case where I want to copy graphics from one of my bin files to the other, I use TLP. YY-CHR was used once or twice to make circles and stuff, cuz it's easier than free handing it, believe me.

Smallhacker:
The boxes, unfortunately, are STILL a work in progress. I'm happy with the front, but the side still looks stupid. It will be better when my demo is released. Maybe not perfect, but better.

Mighty Kefka:
Only the first world is candy themed. Each world will have it's own distinct theme.

Everyone Else:
I will try to work my ass off to release a demo soon, but if it isn't done by the end of this week, I won't be working on it for a little while. It will be spring break, after all. You can't expect me to use my last big break before college lets out to work on a hack, now can you?

Just to keep everyone updated, here is the last shot of the graveyard. Keep in mind that the background isn't complete (neither is the foreground, but it's closer). Comments and (constructive) criticisms are always welcome. Also note that I still remember all the stuff you might have already told me, so don't repeat unless you're sure I haven't heard it yet.

It could be the settings you're using for your exits. Try fiddling with different options and see what happens.

If I had the time to learn ASM, I would make it so that if you started a level from a midway point, you would have a lowered amount of time. This would probably be easy to do with a palette hack, in case anyone is interested in doing it.

I worked off and on for about a month before I got pretty much everything standard down. Maybe another month after that for all the extra stuff, such as extra graphics, ripping, and what have you. Hacking shouldn't be something you do if you're not willing to invest some time.

Dear lord, that was easy to follow. I've looked through the other documents that have been floating around for a while, and they were too technical for a first year CS student like me to grasp totally. Which is exactly why I love my programming class so much, it puts the concepts in terms that I can easily understand. Good job.

Make your own. It really is quite easy, especially when you're using the old tiles as a base. Easier than regular ExGFX making, if you ask me. Even if it isn't a complete overhaul, you can still pull off some pretty awesome stuff when you make small changes. Trust me on this, I have experience.

It should be easy to right your own app that does that, if you know how to convert them by hand. I'm not entirely sure, but I'm willing to bet there's a document on conversion somewhere. Barring that, someone here should be able to help you.

I would hardly consider myself having "the shittiest timing the world." You should at least try to make your hack playable AND fun. Having to use savestates to make my timing exact is not exactly my idea of playable and fun. Either eliminate (or at least reduce, for god's sake) jumps that require perfect timing or make them optional by having them lead to something worthwhile. Or even make the punishment for fKitten Yiffer smaller, geez.

Did I ever say it was hard? That's right, I didn't. I can make the jump, say 1 out of 3 tries. If I'm not using savestates, and considering how many times you decided to stick the jumps into your levels, there goes pretty much all of my lives. You've gotta consider these things when you're making a hack; hell, when making any game.

That's one too many. To be honest, I only made it the second one before I stopped playing. I could care less about the videos, I don't doubt that you can make them. My point was that not everyone can make it every time. I doubt everyone can even make it 1 in 3, like I can. That isn't very fun for anyone.

EDIT: And I am on AIM. I just have a closed list.
