========================
CASTLEVANIA - BLOOD MOON
========================

Welcome to the readme for Castlevania Blood Moon, released 1/10/05. This is a romhack of the original Castlevania done using Stake, Tilelayer Pro & Hex Workshop. Many changes from the original have been made during the production of this hack. It's taken quite a while to finish up, but at last the day has arrived.

This hack only works when the IPS file is patched to the Castlevania (U) PRG1 rom. So unless you recieved the actual rom, a utility such as SNESTOOL will be needed to do this.

All graphics to characters were created by bit-blade, redrum, moonchilde & revility. The stage's background graphics were done by bit-blade & redrum. Several changes involving the game's engine were done through hexadecimal by redrum. Some of these changes include jumping higher & whip while walking (which is sort of a mixed blessing.), and the drop item ratio.

Stake is a fantastic editor that allowed me (redrum) to make many complex changes to the music, gameplay, title/ending screens, and of course the levels themselves.

Level 1- Cursed Graveyard
Designed by redrum

Level 2- Mountain Path
Designed by redrum

Level 3- Demon Tower
Designed by morgoth galaxius

Level 4- Underground Waterway/Castle Entrance
Designed by dragonsbrethren

Level 5- Hall of Illusions
Designed by bit-blade

Level 6- Castle Summit/Final Battle
Designed by redrum

Several features were used in Blood Moon that were prominent in the original Castlevania, but not utilized. For example; the water's splash effect, having to break a path through the wall to proceed, and bit-blade's unique tile solidity glitch, and a few booby traps along the way which all make for substantially more interesting gameplay.

This is a very difficult game, for master vampire killers only. If you happened upon it by mistake, then run! far far away! wuahaha!

now for the credits!

Thanks to all who participated in this project!
This game is dedicated to the members of the original CVC & the memory of my late brother, Kris Baker.

thanks guys, i'm pretty happy with the reviews i've been getting on it. i definately put more work into this hack alone than any of my others.

maybe now that it's finished i'll have time to crack some more data for vampire killer

sweet, i love the clock tower!

*adds another CV1 hack to extravagant collection*

hey doc, i was thinking of contributing some of the more recent CV hacks to demoncastledracula.tk since it hasnt had an update in a long time.

the guy there hosts various castlevania hacks from over the years and has a complete list. if you're intrested in adding yours to the list, let me know & i'll try to find dracul and get him to update

basically thats correct, unless you plan to do some hexing. we did some screwing around with it in stake, and figured which tiles were solid & not. while we were doing this, bit bladed found a sort of glitch of how you could set them up to be able to jump through them. we used it quite extensively through our last hack.

i dunno, i got pretty freaky with metroid omega's levels... so badly that i sort of scrapped it

you have to admit there are some intresting concepts in this though, i'll give it a shot after i get done with what i have to do today

no offence xcom, but my quandaries with your idea are within its organization and content. the only subjects i recall being covered were concerning the most popular romhacks/hackers at the time and had little or nothing to do with the actual process of what most people here would find worth time to read.

anything about works, progress or thoughts of the community as a whole were entirely ignored.

what i'm gettin at is that i think you should think this through and try to devise a way to cover the ENTIRE community instead of emphasizing subsidiary topics of the hobby we all dedicate very much time to.

if you've decided to do something like this, do it right.

in my mind a hack is analogical to a piece of art no matter how the person paints the canvas. sure there are bad pieces of art, but art they are still.

a group of people working on a single piece of art doesnt often turn out quite as well, compared to a single person manipulating it the way the want. this isnt always true though...

anyways, i think people should be able to hack whatever damn way they wish without being criticized (besides constructive criticizm, of course)

you dont have to play something ya dont like, ya know.
