Ubuntu was ok, but it completely lacked style. As with most linux distros, the creators fail to realise that functionality isn't everything. This isn't just with distros, either. Most programs that run on linux are drop-dead-boring as well. This is why I wanted to run MSN Messenger, AIM and ITunes using WINE. Any equivilant on linux is so incredibly lame. Of course, MSN and ITunes didn't run with WINE. Face it, Linux isn't as advanced as it's cracked up to be... yet. |

GAIM is ok, but I tend to be very unwilling to switch applications that I use often. I was a bit confused with the decision to make instant messaging tabbed. It seems very bewildering to have to scroll through the tabs for a message every time, by default (of course you don't have to use tabs). |
It's a shame that WINE does not like to support some of the most popular windows software. iTunes refuses to install outright because it can detect the OS. Until WINE supports real programs realy people use, it will remain a one-trick pony. The most frustrating thing about Linux distros is that the developers have all the creative freedom in the world to make something that could even eclipse OS X in terms of functionality, design and uniqueness, yet they all opt to build an army of clones that all look and feel the same. It's almost as if it's stuck in a time warp, because the developers dislike new and exciting shell designs, that they like their OSs boring and bland because that's how they used to be in the good old days. NSNick: Wow, I knew someone would post a PA strip with Charles in it Freakily enough, I have a friend who looks just like him, although he's a PC gamer and therefore requires Windows quite heavily. After doing a Unix / Linux module at uni, he's a little bit more enlightened, though |

I'd have to pretty much say that if you don't know the answers to those questions yourself, you would find it very hard to undertake such a task. Custom console building often involves lots of soldering, improvising with electronics and requires a lot of skill. These sort of activities are usually done by experienced computer technicians or case modders who have too much free time. |

Discovery safely touched down in California about one and a half hours ago, in a perfect landing. The rest of the fleet is still indefinately grounded, although NASA has not officially declared Atlantis' next mission to be canceled. If the issue of debris falling from any part of the shuttle during lift-off can be solved, Atlantis is due to begin a mission in September. Discovery's next flight is due to begin in April 2006. |

See if degausing makes the line go away. I can't say for certain, but if it is a problem with your monitor, degausing might have the same effect as changing the res. If the problem goes away like changing the res, you know the problem is with your monitor. |
I have seen this problem happen with LCDs as well, just a one pixel line in the middle of the screen. Had to get that one fixed. (restricted) | |
