Hey there, everyone. It's me, Grey. I'm a Sim Battler. For those of you who don't bother reading the board that's two floors below this one, I'd like to tell you all about this tournament we're trying to organize. We've been planning it on and off for a few weeks now, and I'd like to see it set into motion soon. We've got contestants, we've got rules already set up, and now we need one last thing. Judges. |
We've got two already, Schwa and Silvershield have stepped up to deal the ratings, but since that's only two people, and more often than not two people can turn competitive decisions into straight deadlocks, we need a third judge. This is where you come in. The idea came up for us to call on another member of the board, someone who doesn't watch the battles or someone who doesn't fight, or something like that, to be our third judge. http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=7559&ppp=20&page=3#164001 This is the thread, this is the post. Though it might seem to be an opera of craziness at first, isn't this the Craziness Domain? I ask as many of you as are interested to please read this and give us some help. One last request: It says in the post "Serious inquiries only." This is the utmost truth. I don't want any joke PMs from people who just want to mess around with the SB arena. We've gotten enough flak from the rest of the board in the old days (Remember the ROM hacking cat poll? I do) and I think it's about time we had some respect for this creative writing pasttime. I'd be honored to have any of you step up and help us out. Please consider my words.

Yay! Four! |
Well, two and two. But they're still my pets, no matter where they are. Misty, my oldest cat, is grey with white boot paws. She lives in my room and gave me a really big scratch on my hand last week. Sammy and Milo, both around the same age, are my father's. Sammy's a big, muscle-headed black cat that's really really affectionate. He trusts humans totally, unlike Milo, a grey and white cat that runs away whenever someone that isn't my father approaches him. Simon, my newest cat, is also black, but he has long, silky fur. Unfortunately, he's a pretty-boy. Nothing going on upstairs at all. Also, he likes girls more than guys. It's times like now I wish I had a digital camera.

For my mom and dad, my elder sister and I are going in on something big, so that they can get a really good gift from us instead of two crappy ones. My little sister, I don't know. But I was thinking a new video game or something. She likes them as much as I do! My girlfriend, I'm gonna get her a copy of Bujingai: The Lost City, because she's obsessed with Gackt. I'm excited.  For her family, I'm gonna get her little sister some manga, and her parents a gift certificate to a restaurant. They don't like me at all, but I still think it's a good idea to get them gifts anyway, in the spirit of the holidays, and because I care about their daughter. My father, and my older sister..... I don't know yet. I'm kinda worried, too. School's been bogging me down a lot lately, and I'm afraid I won't have time to go out and buy them gifts.

'I've got some serious problems...' Janus thought as he held up his hammer. 'But then, that's what I'm here for!' Janus: "OK, Origin, I'm ready to go! Let's have some real fun!" Janus holds his hammer out straight in front of him, the handle facing downward, the head at the center of his body. As it circles in a clock-like pattern around him, he cries out... "Heart of Steel!!!" The handle instantly moves to twelve distinct positions, like the numbers on a clock, stopping at "twelve." It then moves to the "one" position... "Get ready Origin, because I'm gonna show you what I've learned over the years, too! Misguided... I'll show you what I've guided myself to!"

Grey: "Origin..... You've got to tell them the rules, too!" Standing in front of the desk was a young man in a shirt and cargo pants... Not Detective Grey, but the fourth-wall-breaking User Grey, who immediately produced a pen from his pocket and wrote down his name on the paper, taking a seat behind the desk next to the imposing, phoenixial warrior. "I guess I'll take care of that. Here goes: The rules are, that we've established, as follows. One on one fights, standard sim battle rules (read the FAQ if you don't already know them). Depending on the number of combatants, we're either gonna have a round-robin style tourament, or a bracketed elimination tournament. I'm leaning towards a round-robin, myself. The judges are Schwa, Silvershield, and an as-yet-unnamed third judge. We've still got to figure it out. Once the matchup style has been determined, we will determine a point system as well, for ranking and advancement. So far the tournament prize is nothing but bragging rights, but I assure you there will be one." Grey leans back in the chair, watching his words appear on paper next to the sign-up sheet. "Personally, Origin, I think we might have wanted to let the judges themselves take care of this one."

Janus: "Tick, tock...." |
The clock handle went from "one" to "two"... And Janus was gone. The spear collided with the ground, quivering as it stuck into it, flying through an afterimage. Janus was moving FAST. "Sorry, Origin. But that's what Heart of Steel does. Constant speed, constantly rising." He's standing behind Origin, perched lightly on his floating hammer. No weapon, of course, means no attack for now. However, Origin would notice a faint rush of cold emitting from Janus' body... "Blue's Blizzard!!!" The slight cold erupts into a strong, well-defined blue light that circulated around Janus. The water vapor in the air was forming itself into tiny crystalline pieces of ice... But still, among it all, Origin has an open shot. "Now then, engage!"

Ah, I found out something interesting. |
Maybe it's just my imagination, but I watched a series of replays that my friend Kevin made in RA2. He kept on fighting computer opponents, using the same fighting style over and over. At first, his style won entirely (harrier rushes, scattering, etc.) but gradually, the computers started changing their tactics. Before, they'd just hit him with land units (they were easies, three of them), and they wouldn't even notice the air units coming. Then, all of a sudden, he plays one game against the easies... They rush him. With Harriers. Totally destroy his construction yard and nearly disable him (he had another base of course). It was strange, the computers seemed to adapt themselves to his fighting style. Is that included in the scripting for the AI?
