As I've already said before, I've been having trouble with my evga.com geforce fx 5200. It certainly was overheating! I improved the circulation by replacing the dirty chassis fan, and moving my rather large sound card down a slot so it wouldn't disrupt air flow anymore. Now, my current problem is that Windows XP (SP2) says "Access Denied" whenever I try to change the video driver. What should I do to stop that error message?

Anybody know where I can find one? The shipping from tigerdirect.com is over 70 dollars for the slowest service, so it'd be much easier to drive it home myself. Help will be greatly appricated. If this isn't the correct forum, I'm sorry.

I'm not even going to bother trying to detail all my trouble with setting up a home LAN, but can somebody please tell me how to install Windows Firewall? Obviously this applies to Win XP SP2. Any help would be nice, Google didn't find relevant results on a query of "install windows firewall". The service isn't in the services list either in the advanced mode or MSconfig.

Well, my problem is that Windows Firewall does not exist on my computer period. Security Center can't turn it on, and it's not anywhere in the list of Windows "services". I need it for Internet Connection Sharing, since they're literally 1 and the same in XP. I'll edit this post if any further developments in my bizarre case come up.

First things first. After messing around with several distros of Linux, all the ones I try report "package" errors. Maybe the ISOs are corrupt? My CD-Rs could be poor quality too. Since installing linux didn't work, I went back into windows xp. Weird thing is Partition Magic claims D: is of partition type "BAD". There's no such thing. I've had no data loss at all. When trying to convert the drive to NTFS, Windows says it's already NTFS (which is correct). The next distro I plan to try soon is Xandros, I know it works since I've installed it on other computers.

BTW, does anyone know how to install WINE in Xandros?

Is there a way to change the default? IE's usual white is really hard on my eyes lately. If there's nothing I can do, that's ok.

Wowza! I finally got the internet and file sharing to run between my computers (100baseT wired ethernet). However, I'm not sure how to make multiplayer games work. Any how-to guides? Opening ports isn't an option since my Windows Firewall is still completely missing. I've reinstalled SP2, edited the registry, did the system file checker, and registered important DLLs... Nothing fixes that. I'm going to run a full ad-aware scan next. Most important, I'd just like to have a frag-fest. I'm willing to virtually dissect both OSs (XP and 2000) to do it.

Edit: Never mind. It's a problem specific to Quake III (probably my lack of a cd key). Still, this LAN is great for Jedi Outcast!

I recently purchased 2 Xbox pads and the Steel Battalion thing (whatever that's called) for about $25. So, I've got a few tough questions.

1: Where can I find the original Steel Battalion game disc by itself? I'm not interested in "Line Of Contact", it's online sequel. I don't have Xbox Live!

2: What's a good place to buy those short break away connectors? My new controllers didn't come with them.

3: Does anyone know of or could write PC drivers for the Steel Battalion joystick? Will the normal controller driver work?

I found a very old USB camera. However, the usual incompatibilities between Windows 98 native software and Windows XP Pro make driver installation impossible. It's an I/O magic MagicVision, model DR-CMUSB1. Does anyone have the raw .INF file for it? That's all I need. XP's lame automatic driver "finder" doesn't know what to look for. It'd be easier for me to just install manually, if I had it. I/O magic's website only has a zip file with a small .EXE setup program, no actual .INF. The page also shows a much newer camera in the picture. Help would be nice.

To contrast with ones that are everywhere such as GTA San Andreas and Halo 2, I thought someone here might be able to tell me which titles are just about impossible to find. Among the ones I want are Rez (over $65 on ebay!), Beyond good & evil, and Klonoa 2. There should be a database on this. Any others to look for?

What I have are 2 stock Indigo pads. You know, the ones packaged with every GCN back in 2001. 1 of the sticks feels as if it's far too loose. The other is only a little bit. Whenever I play a game with either, pressing UP makes it stay up even when let go. What can I do to restore calibration? If you know a website I can order the screwdriver needed to open it, please tell me! It has to have a long thin shaft which can fit down the small hole and that strange three-sided bit.

Had any luck with them? I found this one called Power Joy. It plays fine with the built-in games, but it's cartridge didn't do anything (labeled PJ-008). Cart probably went bad. In both my cases of GBP/GCN falling to the floor with Zelda Oracle of Ages inside and having put a SNES game into an N64 via Gameshark as an experiment, the game quit but not any hardware. Believe me, smashed in half GBC carts aren't pretty. Still, this famicom thingy is rather neat. The embedded software includes a graphics/sound hack of Duck Hunt. No gameplay was affected. Another title is like Tengen Tetris, this one had minor gameplay changes. Only in that the pieces were shaped differently. Can't go wrong with a $9.99 famiclone. I'm going to buy a Family Converter to see if other carts work in there.

BTW, is there a complete list of NES games which may have the cartridge adaptor inside? I couldn't find it in Baseball or 10 Yard Fight. Also, where can I get the screwdriver needed to open newer ones? They changed from 5 straight-slot screws to 3 Game Boy screws (what are they called?) and I'm not sure what to do.

What can I say? Duck Hunt is priceless, even if you're shooting helicopters.

I've just seen my little garbage block gfx savestate, and a save editor to make unique designs in puzzle mode. I'd go in there with a hex editor, but I don't know where the rom's data is. 2 questions. What program can let me view the compressed graphics? And... Does somebody have a translated text dump/script for Panel De Pon? I've been curious WTF the characters say for a long time.
A quick gaze with TLP shows that all three versions (J, U, and E) of TA have more free space than PDP. Probably due to the removal of it's unused VS mode backgrounds, etc. A palette file for the title screen would help me start something big. Funny enough, a search query of "panel de pon translation" gives no results in Google, Yahoo, or Dogpile. Like with Zero Wing, an animated gif of that game's story would rock. Just point me to a Tetris Attack GFX decompressor. Speaking of that, how come nobody would tell me where to get one for Mega Man 7 when I asked so many months ago? I seriously need that for my SMW hack.

Crossover fanfic of Panel De Pon and Zero Wing? Maybe, complete with engrish...

Look nice. Does it unlock tracks hidden in the ROM, or patch in new ones? I was once lucky enough to have been given a track in the X cup where every computer driver fell off due to a huge cliff-like section. I figured out on my last continue that it could be survived by driving very slowly. Finishing 1/1 is something I'll probably never see again. This was on a standard NTSC (U) cart. FYI, my forums have been reopened. Check the signature for a link.

Can anyone tell me how this works? None of my systems are modded, in case that's important. I'm most interested in SNES games. From my experience, Xbox can read both CD-R and CD-RW. PS2 won't do either. I dunno about GC or DC. That's for music, what about applications? I know revisions can change what a system will do (as in DC's hidden boot code). So, here's the info for them. GC: launch, DC: launch, Xbox: 2/2005, PS2: model 50001. Of course, they're NTSC (U). Anything to get Super Metroid and Panel de Pon onto a TV set!

I don't know how many of you remember my take on SMW, but it's slowly moving back in progress. Anyone have a good tileset for the inside of a pyramid? And, what's the correct palette for Marle from Chrono Trigger? She's going to be a small easter egg. As you'll notice, I've got many decent tilesets and palettes. However, I need help making levels to go with them. Check out these.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v54/theclaw/Level0B2.gif

Ignore the dithering. That's because it's a GIF. It was 10mb as BMP! Nice seaside arrangement, notice the little clouds? Any layout ideas?

People familiar with my hack should know this one. But, I'm trying to make it look like an actual desert (as opposed to it's previous blue or pink incarnations).

You've probably been here too. As you'll see (or not?), there's a reason for it being called "Invisible Haunt". No invisible objects are in this screenshot though.

This one's new. Recognize the trees and gravestones? They're both from different games. However, the R.I.P. text (look closely) was added by me. You might laugh at the overworld name. What about help on this one's design?

I'm still cleaning up a small mess inside this ROM. Don't worry, the affected level isn't on the overworld. You'd have to open LM and hold Page Down to find it. Release date? As made famous by Duke Nukem, when it's done.

OK. That's the outdated link. Go to http://www.geocities.com/theclaw135/filelist.html and scroll to the bottom. Click on SMWSE.zip. This file is from November 2003, as opposed to May like that one.

I'll look into it. My next plan is moving levels from the "TEST" replacement slots into being accessible from the map. Note that I still understand nothing about overworld editing, it's only minor changes right now. I'm a slight perfectionist when it comes to level design (it's my primary hacking focus as well). I won't map anything less then excellent. That's why so few levels can be found without LM.
I thought that graveyard was a bit too bright for the setting. It's nice to hear positive reviews after so long without posting news at Acmlm's about it. There's a different patch at my other site, http://geocities.com/star_amy7. I don't remember what it's like, since that page might be 18 months old.

Is there a SNES palette archive or something? I could really use some to make ripping GFX easier. My hack is more difficult than the original SMW, so I'll write an FAQ for any levels which people have trouble with. I did that for one or two a long time ago. The most challenging places to reach are Top Secret Area, and the Green Switch palace for now. But when I start work on the Star World and Special World, I'll up the notch big time! The toughest hack I've played is SMW:TLC. That will change. Hardest than Super Ghouls & Ghosts? Oh yeah...

That tree happens to be in the first level of Wario Land 3, and those graves are from LTTP.

Nothing. It's incomplete! That blue stuff is just the background, not water. I didn't even think of mentioning it before. I showed the level because it has a good tileset, but I'm out of ideas for layout. Wanna help? I guess the term is "writer's block". The graveyard is now shades of brown with a deep red background. It should be more spooky. And, I fixed the black part of that sand. No more yellow muncher plants either.
