there is no color 'cyan', in terms of the pre-defined CSS colors. use #00FFFF, or 'aqua' which I believe is the word for it.

IRC is suitable for real-time communication (in place of IM programs), and message boards for non-real-time communication (in place of e-mail). if you do use IM programs, though, then if AIM sucks... *drum roll please* use a different IM protocol! There's MSN messenger, ICQ, a few others, and, IMO, the best of them all: Yahoo Messenger. as for trillian, I stopped using that when the distinction between "fully-functional version" and "free version" was made. |

Kitten Yiffer: that comes up with the 'hosted by tripod' image, to me. I doubt I had the original in-cache, so this more-or-less proves that the empty querystring trick (putting a "?" at the end of the URI) doesn't work, not for tripod anyway.

look in php.ini and make sure register_globals is turned on. it's off by default in PHP 4.2.0 and later. acmlmboard requires it to be on.

like erk said, if you know how to type, hitting it accidentally isn't that much of a problem. and if you're like me, you watch the text input box as you type and/or give it a once-over after typing it, so if you accidentally hit it, you'd notice before sending the message/making the post/whatever. what ought to be done is giving lessons on how not to be a lamer and use all-caps for stupid things. like many things, there are legitimate uses of caps-lock (for example, most #define terms in C programming are all-caps, and it's easier to type e.g. FOO_BAR_VALUE with caps-lock on than to have to go back and forth between shift keys to do it manually). one key that ought to be removed, though: Scroll Lock. I'm not entirely sure what it's supposed to do (I think something along the lines of making the up/down arrow keys scroll the document window instead of moving the cursor up/down one line), and regardless, I don't think anyone even uses it except as an extra bindable key in Q3, or something. or, on a more pratical level: don't remove the Enter key, but, ban any keyboard on which the Enter key spans over more than one row of keys. that's how it is on my keyboard, and that's all well and good except the \ key, which normally is over the Enter key (below the backspace key) becomes a tiny little key next to the backspace key. and I'm not very good at picking one key out of many in that area of the keyboard (I rarely type +/= or \ correctly on the first try without having to look at the keyboard). </rant> |

looks pretty generic as far as pixel-perfect site graphics go, which is to say, it looks quite nice, but the general style of it is pretty been-there-done-that. I can see the HTML source of the page already, just from looking at the title banner image!

well, gandalf's suggestion seems sound. erk makes a valid point, though; the trouble to implement this may not be worth it, considering that only a few people are bad in only one forum. besides, they could be warned via PM. as for stifu: if you're capable of locking a user's post layout (which would, presumably, require administrator-level access), you're probably capable of editing the actual layout yourself (if they won't do it themself) |

I think it looks pretty nice. just a couple nitpicky points:
that said, I like it and I like the aspect ratio. it'd be neat if this board used something like that, because, as we all know, wider is better. ![]() |

well, there are many such sites, such as Geocities or Tripod. however, such sites will put ad banners in your sites, and won't allow off-site linking of images. for example, if you put some of your work on a geocities site, then tried to post it here, it would be blocked by geocities because this site is not geocities. there are some workarounds to this, as detailed and discussed in this thread. if your sole purpose is for displaying your artwork, then sites such as DeviantArt may be more suitable. strictly speaking, you ought to use $poster['weapon'] instead of $poster[weapon] - the latter works but for the wrong reasons (it looks for a constant named "weapon", finds no such constant, and assumes you meant the string "weapon")it might help if you look at the parse error and see:

right. my guess is that the SPC memory is analogous to the name tables in an NES game: while the end-result format is always the same (so that the PPU/SPC700/whatever can understand it), how it's stored in the ROM and how the end-result is generated from that data is different from game to game (and sometimes different from different parts of the same game) -- only the end result is the same.

yeah. half a gig is plenty except for hosting large files (or numerous smaller files). for J. Random Website, it's fine. fuitad's rig is pretty good as well, although it seems contradictory to allow more disk space but less bandwidth (in comparison to 50lbs). |
