Grey: "Janus, take the other side, we'll surround him!"

As Phage fell into the dumpster, one figure appeared at each end of the alleyway the dumpster was contained in. They slowly approached the dumpster. Grey drew his gun. Janus slung his bag off of his back. They each stared intenesly at the dumpster, waiting for the man to come out...

Janus: "Grey, be careful here. We don't know what he can do. You're going to have to defend yourself if I get knocked out, so be ready for anything. If you get into too much trouble, call Red. He and the others will help you escape."

Grey: "What about you?"

Janus: "There's a reason why I hired you."

Crowded around a decrepit lunch table, five men take their time looking at menus. Of course, there's not really much to eat around here, so they don't take as much time as they'd like.

Janus: "Right, I guess we're gonna hang out here for awhile. I wonder what we'll do next?"

Grey: "Yeah, and why am I here in the first place? I don't even fight...."

Janus: "You fight, trust me."

Red: "More and better than we do, anyway."

Red pushed his sunglasses up his nose as he looked around the table. Red, Green, Blue, Janus, and Grey. Yeah, the gang was all here. Blue, however, had been unusually silent. He got up from the table and approached Kirbynite at the podium at the front of the cafeteria.

Blue: "Excuse me, sir, but I was wondering if perhaps you could further clarify your definition of the term 'discussion' that you seem to have used before? I and my colleagues are slightly perplexed at this. Certainly, ideas will be abound, but more to the point, I would like to note that the attendence level of this area appears to be..... lacking, to say the least."

Blue looked about the cafeteria. There was a table with a note on it that said "Reserved for Schwa, etc." on it, and little else. Star sat at another table, and a man he'd never seen before at another. Other than that, nothing.

"A better idea would be to get more people in here to discuss ideas, simply put."

Grey's coat billowed in the wind as he hit the top floor of the building. A glint of metal showed beneath it, revealing a large amount of strange gadgets and devices. He pushed his hat further down on his head, casting a shadow over his eyes. Grey grinned a little, and drew his gun.

Grey: "Well, how else would I find out how good you are? After all, if you can't beat an average human, there's no way you can stand against what my client has described to me..."

Armor-piercing bullets.... But Grey's not aiming for the cockpit, for some reason...

Avoiding Teddylot and Zap for the time being, Grey stays hidden from view, having already descended fully down the pipe and into the shadows of the sewer. As Kirby slinks down the hallways, so too does Grey, right up until he sees Melvin, that is.

Grey: "HIM!"

The yell is accompanied by a crash, as the body of Grey falls to the ground in a heap.

"What's HE doing here? Dammit!"

Not wanting to risk another conflict, Grey holstered his gun, retracted his gadgets, and tried to remain inconspicuous. It didn't work. He's now in full view of Kirbynite, Melvin, Smithy, Teddylot, Zap, and Troy, and thoroughly embarassed at his lack of secrecy and loss of control for the time being. He summed his thoughts up rather well....

"Shit."

Janus: "Lad? I'm older than you!"

5....

Suspended in the air, Janus' hammer flies toward him, and he catches it!

4...

Janus then spins into a quick cyclone, not a full scale whirlwind, but just enough to give him some aerial control...

3...

The whirlwind rockets toward the ground!

2...

The whirlwind collides with the ground!

1...

"Earthquake Diver!"

0...

As the telltale spray of earth flies into the air and all around where Janus collided, one question remains....

Was it enough?

Janus: "Huh?"

Seeing Schwa over at Star's table, Janus walks over and claps him on the shoulder. He grins as he delivers a greeting to his friendliest foe.

"Hey there, Schwa, it's been awhile! Glad to see you've finally arrived!"

He then recalls what Star said a few moments ago...

"You know, there are entire universes of people we've never met. I've seen them, they definitely exist. We need to call upon them."

As the rest of his colleagues approach the table, Janus begins relating the stories he's heard.

"Take my friend Detective Grey here, for example. He's been to Japan, there's a very remarkable lad there that apparently gave him a good fight awhile ago. People like him are sure to make an impact on this place. Star, however, is absolutely correct. The amount of fighters who've joined and been jailed is certainly an issue. I believe the quality of the area will definitely increase if we hold some kind of event to attract people."

Hoping to have garnered an audience, Janus lets an idea loose that he's had for awhile.

"There was once a tournament of fighters around here that, as Star said, was a bit much. It was a team-based tournament, correct? Well, why not have another tournament, but have specialized rules for it? As opposed to extended limitations, let there be restrictions! Let fighters think, instead of..."

Janus' thoughts returned to one of his older battles, in which his foe nearly destroyed the world for the sake of victory...

"....Well, instead of just seeing how hard they can smash a person over the head with a blunt object. Schwa, have you ever thought about what it might be like to fight without your psychic powers? Star, what if you couldn't travel through time? And you, Mr. Kirbynite, I've never even SEEN you fight. It's more fun to fight when you're handicapped, you have to think and react according to your limitations and your perspective. I say we give it a try!"

He looks around at a sea of faces, no doubt dubiously regarding his proposition.

"Well, I can understand the sheer futility of proposing you all stop using your powers... But hey, I've considered it..."

Grey: "Well, maybe.... But I assure you, I've got an excellent reason for it! When all of this is over, I'd actually like to speak with you personally, Mr. Nite. Until then, it's my responsibility to make sure you stay safe, regardless of how much you want to go off gallivanting on some treasure hunt adventure."

He shifts from foot to foot, noting already that he's surrounded by people he doesn't know.

I absolutely hate hentai. The plots are usually worse than most pornographic films that aren't animated, and it's just plain sick. It's not anime, in my opinion.

I'm also not really a fan of the Tenchi Series. And I HATE Dragon Ball Z.

I have a huge list of anime I don't like, actually. But since this asked me to list the tops, I gotta go with those three. But I'd like to give the Tenchi Series another try, seeing as how I only saw the heavily edited American dub that they showed on Cartoon Network awhile ago. It'd be nice to know if the real version was any better or made any more sense.

I'm assuming Melvin's porn is human porn.

Human, yes, but the point is we need answers, we need to focus on the issues. What KIND of human porn? Is it sickening? Is it softcore? Inquiring minds want to know! This is a severe partisan issue that obviously divides the two parties, and oftentimes in politics voters just aren't sure what they're voting for!

Will it be the secure, safe, and reasonably cute furry porn, or will it be Melvin's unknown, mysterious porn archives?

OOC: Alright, firstoff, Grey's profile is in the story forum. You can choose who you fight here, either him or Janus. My Janus is not a roman god or anything like that, I explained his backstory in there. The name "Janus" is just a name I thought was pretty cool. It's got nothing to do with mythology at all.

There are two versions of him; Master of Mediocrity and Explorer of Time, a third one's on its way as soon as I start up a story arc I've been thinking of for awhile. This one is Explorer of Time, since in his timeline he meets up with Grey after he becomes Explorer of Time. Explorer of Time's the stronger version; the third version's going to be even stronger, but since the character is capable of time travel, it's safe to assume I can use all three forms at will, they have their advantages and disadvantages.

He's pretty much human, his race literally means a being that is given human characteristics. I'm not gonna use the Agents either, I just mentioned them as a story-based allusion. They have their own fights and story arcs as well, I try to develop my characters in and out of the story forum, I find it really helps me think of different ways to use them in Sim-Battles. If you want to get into this and really have some fun with it, you might want to try the Story Forum as well. It's pretty cool.

So basically from here, you can either fight Grey or Janus. And also, thanks very much for that Roman god information, I didn't know that before.

OOC: Oy, this is gonna be kinda tough.... Alright, let's go through this step by step. Now, things start off pretty well. I like the opening, you're talking about guns. However, you say that shots are fired, and from there it just goes downhill. Firstoff, you're controlling my character. Grey's not gonna hurt you unless I say he's gonna hurt you, just like you won't hurt me unless you say you're attacking. I won't control your character, you won't control mine. It's in the rules.

Here's the thing about attacking, though. You need to think out your attacks. Killing blows are going to be extremely hard to pull off, and nobody ever really kills anyone around here anyway, it's a bad idea and it tends to make people who enjoy characters they think up rather angry. Take your most recent example, where you stab who I'm going to assume is Grey in the back. Rather than say "With a twirl of his fingers, two daggers spun from the air into the first one

Grey: "A tournament would need judges..."

'Brilliant idea, Star...' Grey thought in a frustrated manner, as he caught Jarukoth's wandering Sharingans. 'Tell them I'M powerful... Jeez... This isn't my style anyway, I don't even know why Janus made me come...'

"And judges that are as active as the combatants are pretty hard to come by."

OOC: Relax, it's not that hard, most of the "humans" you see in here aren't that normal anyway. A lot of them have lightning reflexes, the ability to dodge, some kind of protective device... The real basics that you need worry about are just describing an action that your foe can think his way out of. And when your foe does that to you (let's say Grey fires a bullet at Phage), you take a quality from your character (Well, considering you're not a normal being you might be superfast, and be able to dodge the bullet!) and apply it to the situation and that's your defense (Phage dodged out of the bullet's path with his superhuman speed, causing a narrow miss!).

The thing to keep in mind, however, is you can't always miraculously dodge. You've got to have a good reason for it. Let's use the previous bullet example, but this time Phage's movement is impeded by an oil slick Grey sprayed on the floor in front of him! He won't be able to dodge, so he's got to find some other way to stop that attack from hurting him. You could then make use of the scenery around you. Since this is a city, you could try something like grabbing a garbage can lid and using it as a shield. Crude, but effective. And, since you've got that garbage can lid, you could fling it like a frisbee at Grey for a counterattack. The point of the fights is to move fluidly, reactions follow actions, and the attacks you make won't necessarily hit unless you maneuver your foe into a position where they have to hit.

I think that's pretty much all I can think of as far as fighting normal people goes. The FAQ at the top of the forum might be able to help you more than I do, I've never really been to any other Sim Battle forums, so I just kinda go by the rules that are inherent here. So, you want to give it a shot?

Janus: "Single element attacks, eh? That's gonna be pretty tough. Guess I'll have to change tactics! I won't be needing this until this thing wears off...."

Janus sets his hammer on the ground, and assumes a martial arts stance. He shoots toward Schwa, striking him with a lightning fast palm strike to the face....

.....That does absolutely nothing to faze Schwa. Instead, cream-colored white light erupts from his fist, and as Janus leaps away from Schwa, he stares at his fists in horror, their glowing nature signifying the one thing Janus hadn't counted on...

Holy element.

Grey's coat billows outward as he immediately drops towards the ground, only to have his grappling hook catch on one of the M-Tek HQ windows as the Melvin-Robo finger flicks empty air. This leaves Grey hanging from a windowledge by a steel cable attached to a polyester trenchcoat. Deciding to take more sufficient cover than open air, he scrambles to the closest open window that he can and climbs inside.

Grey: "Sheesh, it's gonna be tough to take that thing out. And here I was, trying to be some kind of badass David style character."

Peering out the window at the fearsome 1980s mecha throwback towering above him, Grey holds his gun in his hands, loads a specialized putty bullet into it, and fires a tiny plastic explosive at the Melvin-Robo's..... Well, actually, he decides to take his aim a few feet upward and fires at the midsection! Yeah... the midsection... Better idea.

OOC: Alriiiiiight, now we're getting somewhere! Jeez, the age disparity is more than made up for by the amount of detail you put into your posts.

Grey and Janus continued looking for Phage. After a short time, Janus looked back at Grey, who kept eyeing him with the utmost in suspicion. Certainly, he had bitten off more than he could chew in this situation...

Janus: "Stop looking at me like that. It's disconcerting. The last thing I need is for you, of all people, to think I'm some kind of weirdo. You'd think with all of the stuff you've seen so far you'd be less shocked. Anyway, if you must know he's been scaling buildings for the past half hour. If I'm right he should be just around the corner. Considering his first reaction to our presence, I'm guessing he doesn't want tobe our ally very much, so I think it'd be best to just dispatch him before he starts killing more innocent people than he already has..."

Grey nodded. It was interesting, really. The snow began collecting on his hat and coat, and he pulled it closer to himself to keep his body heat in, but it pierced him. Part of it almost seemed to be coming from Janus himself, but Grey knew that was impossible. Even Janus wasn't that strange. Still, the fact that he could wear a simple t-shirt and pants in this kind of weather amazed Grey, the indifference to the cold was almost conditioned, as though he could feel little difference in temperature, or as though his body were used to it. Peculiar....

As Janus rounded the corner, the silhouette of Phage sat amidst a background of light from the houses around the alleyway. Ominous, for sure. But Janus didn't mind, he had seen scarier in his years, to be certain.

"You're Phage, right? No need for introductions, I know all about you, in some form or another. My name is Janus. I am known to some as the Explorer of Time, the Master of Mediocrity to others, and a royal pain in the arse to everyone else."

Janus took a few cautious steps toward Phage, removing his satchel from his shoulder, ready to convert it at any time. He didn't want to fall victim to another surprise attack.

"Now, I'm just asking you for a decent man-to-man talk. You want to talk with swords, we can. But I'd rather do this civilly. And know that if you clash with me, you won't win easily. That's NOT overconfidence."
