Grey: "Perfect timing, Mr. President."

Looking at his watch, Grey realized that he was the one who was late for this appointment, now that the facts were clear. Though, of course, when one hasn't officially made an appointment, one can't really be late for it, now can he? Grey crossed his arms, turned toward Melvin, and adjusted his hat before he spoke.

"I will not mince words, I'm here for a reason. You see, Mr. President, I've been looking up some background information on you and your family, and you seem perfectly suited for a job that one of my clients has coming up. Indeed, it is not I who asks your employment, but him. He's supposedly raising an army to assist him with an extreme personal feud, and is looking for the best of the best; the strongest, the fastest, and in your case...."

Grey casts a sidelong glance at Melvin's attire...

"....the most well-equipped. As such, I was asked to find him several of these above-average individuals, and your name magically appeared on my list of interesting people to check out."

At this, Grey stepped back a bit and placed his hands in his pockets.

"So, I'm here to check you out. Are you really as heroic as my information suggests?"

Posted on 10-30-04 02:11 AM, in Schwa vs. Janus and the Floes of Time Link
The bag absorbes the electrical energy, and the pull on Janus becomes even stronger! He's skidding literally through the ground towards the well, slowly yet surely losing his footing in the gravitational magnitude of the Gyrowell's might. And, as if on cue, he gets an idea...

Janus: "You know, I just thought of something... You're awfully close to that well, Schwa. Gravity forces objects not only to be sucked towards an object, but also to be locked into orbit with them. Each year, the Earth's moon gets closer and closer to the Earth. Eventually it will enter the Earth's atmosphere and kill us all."

At this, Janus forces himself out of the ground, feeling a massive shift in the pull of the well. He forces a couple of steps backward, and then starts inching to the side. It takes a good deal of effort, considering the bag on his back is at this point nothing more than a huge, charged up rock. However, he's found that as he moves to the side, slowly gaining speed, it's becoming easier to do...

"And..... the only thing stopping the moon...."

He's struggling now, using every last manipulable ounce of his strength just to keep at a steady pace....

"From... colliding with the Earth..."

BANG! In a burst of speed, Janus rockets off to the side, letting the Gyrowell entrap him! However, he's not being sucked toward it nearly as fast, as he concentrates all of his strength on movement! Movement in a circular pattern around the Gyrowell!

"......is the moon's centrifugal force!"

And it's true! The natural weight of Janus' bag, coupled with the gravitational pull of the Gyrowell, and the speed at which he's moving in a circle around the well, is actually allowing him to keep a good distance away from the well. As he speeds around and around Schwa, Schwa should be feeling a slight air current in the direction of Janus' running...

"Now to pick up the pace!"

Ugh, has anyone ever had expired Cream of Wheat? That's what keeps me at Oatmeal. I tried some Cream of Wheat that expired a few weeks ago a few days ago, because I thought wheat didn't go bad. Boy, was I wrong.

Grey: "Well, I don't know all the details myself, but apparently my client is quite insane. He claims to be "Immortal" or something like that. I can't see how it's at all possible, nobody's immortal, everyone dies. Problem with this guy is he says he can't die, and he wants them to pay for that."

At this, Grey shifted uneasily between his feet and loosened his coat a bit. He didn't have a good feeling about this job. Jobs like this tended to turn out weird, and usually very painful for him.

"Anyway, he hired me to investigate the best the world has to offer, and, as I said, your name was on the list. I guess in order to see just how powerful you are, I'll need a demonstration."

Grey kept fidgeting. He had a really bad feeling about this...

"And I'll level with you, good sir. I'm not particularly interested in his personal matters, he's paying me a lot of money for this job. So then, will you please oblige me?"

Ah, the good old days. I remember most fondly two things, my first time ever playing a video game (Duck Hunt when I was four; I put the gun up against the screen and fired), and the first time I ever beat Super Mario RPG. I spent two years playing that game, and I finally beat it when I was 11. And it was worth every second in my mind (being that it was the first game I had ever beaten all alone, by myself, and was the start of a string of many).

Alright, so I've brought this up before in another topic, but the recent bin-Laden thread reminded me.

What's up with our color-coded terror alert system? Why do we have it? Do you guys think it's worth having? I personally don't, it's just a waste of money and time, and we don't really need to know when there's a possibility of a terrorist attack because it just scares us all and does no help when the actual attacks come. It's better to let the government handle things and to keep us posted on when attacks occur.

Alright, here's one to wrap your heads around; The board is getting more and more new members every day, this last week in particular has seen a good few registrations. But for some reason they're not posting, just registering? I find that kinda weird, but you know, it might really help a lot that so many people are registering here, they could really speed things up.

DS, one light year is 5860000000000 miles, I don't think the sun is that far away from the earth. If it were, wouldn't we all be frozen by now?

I think it's more like 7 or 8 light-minutes.

And I stayed up to watch it wednesday with my girlfriend, things like that make for cliche, but excellent nonetheless, special occasions. I sure as heck paid for it the next day, though.... only got 4 hours of sleep and I had three test-grade equivalent projects to hand in.

I like that idea, I like it a lot. It's very Thoreau-ish in attitude. I want to do the same thing when I graduate from college, or at least something similar to it. I intend on going to Montana, or Wyoming, or someplace like that that has a lot of isolated, open space. I'm going to learn about solar power, about water power, and basically provide for myself everything that I can; my own electricity, my own heating, water supply, plants to live off of, anything I can. It's for a couple of reasons, mainly to prove to my mother that I CAN be a modern-day Thoreau and live on my own without society, and also to just see if I can do it.

You've got a good idea, and I definitely think it's possible. Foolhardy, maybe. Challenging? Yeah. But impossible? Not at all.

Well, that's what I'm thinking, but I have a better idea; If the government were really so concerned with stopping terrorism, wouldn't it be a good idea to just lower the alert level to green or something, and then just watch as the terrorists walk into our heavily armed terror interception traps? Or something like that. The system's totally pointless, because there's no reason we have to tell the citizens of the US that we're afraid of being attacked, it's demoralizing and it shows that even the government thinks we have a weakness.

Actually, I just thought of something else; why not have something like a "Terrorism Preparedness Scale" that went from really prepared to not prepared at all? We'd do pretty much what we're doing now, and keep saying we're ultra prepared for an attack, as opposed to predicting the likelihood of an attack. It'd still be fucking stupid, but at least then we're giving a positive message to our citizens.

Posted on 10-30-04 07:24 PM, in How weird do you have to be to not feel pain? Link
Well, I think Dracoon said it best here; Pain is a distant friend and a greatest enemy. A lot of people actually get turned on by pain, Kieran's not that weird, really. Pain's a good way to know you're alive, think about it: When you think you're dreaming, do you sit there and think your way out of it? No, you pinch yourself, or you say "Pinch me, I must be dreaming!"

Pain lets us know our bodies' sensory functions aren't out of whack, and it tests our response to stimuli. If you're in pain, it also generates a flow of adrenaline to your blood, which can produce an incredible high at the right times. Same goes for emotional pain, if you're feeling depressed very suddenly, you're going to get an adrenaline rush, and you might start shaking or trembling or something.

Not only that, but there's also pain that lets you know something good's happening. If you run for a mile or so, and your legs ache, and then you stretch your muscles out a bit and it hurts a little, you'll note that it also feels good, because your muscles are stretching and you're using them like you haven't before, it produces another endorphinal rush. The list goes on.

Pain sometimes causes pleasure, if it's the right kind of pain. There's nothing wrong with it.

And with good reason, it sucks.

You know what I like best? The oatmeal that has the little shapes and stuff in it, or any kind that has some sort of reaction when they're heated up. There was some dinosaur-ish oatmeal around here awhile ago, with these little eggs inside it that were made of confectioner's sugar, and inside them were these little fruit-flavored dinosaurs that "hatched" when you heated up the oatmeal and the confectioner's sugar was washed into the oatmeal. That stuff rocked.

Heh, it's not really too far in the past, but at the cast parties for one of the school plays I was in, we held an SSB:M tourney during it, and I squared off against the guy who played the lead in the play. I didn't win, but it was so close, and we played evenly for so long that everyone said it was the best match there. We both got each other down to one stock, at about 200% damage, and I made a tiny mistake and he managed to blast me into oblivion. Great fight.

Alright, I know a good bit about modern artifacts, and I can say that arcbound really isn't the way to go nowadays, you're better off switching it to an affinity deck or at least hybridizing it, since there are a lot of cards that have been made to get rid of counters on creatures, and also because the release of Kamigawa has made weenie decks much easier to do (soulshift and bushido). Big creature decks are starting to be outdone, and unless you have a real whopper of a card to take your foes on with (I.E. Phyrexian Processor or Memnarch) that allows you to create creatures at will, you're going to be stomped down by new decks.

The mana drop myrs are a good thing, but you're going to need a lot of them to really be effective. Also, if you really insist on going for Modular, I'd suggest putting in some Power Conduits (lets you switch counters between artifact creatures) and maybe a Triskelion (comes into play with 3 1/1 counters on it, remove any amount of coutners, deal that much damage to a creature) or two, to help wipe out those tiny defenses. If you have some Myr Prototypes in there as well (every upkeep put a 1/1 counter on it) as counter harvesters, you'll have a constant supply of indirect damage dealing power to counter new-age white weenie decks and shadow decks alike, which seem to be your biggest enemy right now.

Also, I'd watch out for permission decks, they're probably the biggest enemy you have right now. If you're up against a blue deck, it'd be best to throw in some counterspells of your own (seeing as how you appear to be running a rainbow deck). When up against a blue deck, keep in mind that everything, EVERYTHING YOU DO, could be countered, so you need to play tactically.

And if you ever see a deck with any card with the word "Time" in its title, just run.
