William thought about something for a minute while the beam headed towards him. He remembered a game he used to play a whole lot. An RPG of sorts. He remembered that you could capture a whole lot of creatures into capsules. One of the attacks that those creatures had was devastating if it hit the enemy. He decided to see if it would work.

William: "BIDE!"

William held up his hand in an angle towards the sky. A small light emitted from his hands and disappeared. Then... nothing happened.

The beam hit him, sending him flying a few feet. It did some damage, but nothing really major. He had a little scratch. He stood up, facing Schwa.

William: "Your turn."

In the stands, nobody was sitting there... nobody except one person. She just sat there and watched the battle carefully. She was silent and concentrated on the battle.

That title screen is AWESOME! Amazing work right there. It could be a challenge to make one of those, but I can clearly see how you could do it: remove the intro level and not make Ninji move in the title screen. Then you can use more palettes.

I think that this will be a really good hack once completed. I can't wait to play it.

...how... highly... uncreative...

Seriously. Since "The Ninji Saga" everyone takes an enemy from another Mario game and makes a hack around that. Take an enemy from a hack and use it! I could probably use my Spikeo sprite and make a hack of that.

...speaking of which...

William: "Aww crap. A non-offensive move this time... oh well."

Bide was used in Pokemon, which the move would absorb at least two attacks and release the attack power times a variable. However, if a turn was used to defend or charge, Bide would be useless.

William moved his hand up like he did the previous turn, however this time the light flashed red and shot a huge beam about fifteen feet in diameter. The beam held the power of Schwa's Alpha Psibeam but it was tripled in power. The beam headed towards Schwa at a very fast rate. The angle of the beam was sure to hit the platform he stood on, so if he stood there Schwa would still be hurt by the explosion of the platform.

Her eyes widened in the stands as she saw the huge beam. She now understood that William was an almost-experianced battler. But she had to watch more.

William: "Dare accepted."

William reached into his sack on his back, noticing how Schwa's hands emitted green. He reached around, finding nothing in that dimension in the bag...

Then he found something he could find useful. He pulled it out and held it in front of him. He held a Gust Jar from the game Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. He knew well what to do.

He aimed the jar top at a floating platform in the air. He then made the jar top spin, sucking in anything that it can fit into it. The platform started lowering to the ground towards William. The jar turned from a blue to a yellow and the suction power was faster. The platform moved faster. Then the jar turned red, maxed out its suction power, and the platform hit the jar. The jar held onto the platform with ease. William turned the platform at Schwa, and stopped the jar from sucking. The Gust Jar turned blue, and it shot the platform at Schwa at an alarming rate. The dust on the ground shot up as the platformed wasted no time in reaching its destination.

She was impressed by both of the warriors in the field, but her concentration still lingered around William's abilities. She was really interested in his skills.

William looked beneath him after Schwa called his attack.

William: "What th-"

He was cut off from his speech as the beam pounded into him, hurting him slightly, but the real threat was not being able to move. He tried to move, but failed. He could do nothing but hope that he could come up with a defensive
-----

???: "Cutie? You didn't just call me that!"

She wasn't too happy that Schwa callled her that. Nobody could call her anything unless they knew her. After thinking that in her mind, she stood up fast and tried to shoot a sniper right at Schwa's head, but she forgot that the battleground was protected and the sniper bullet desintegrated when it hit the shield.

Being an expert sniper, she could have hit Schwa right in the head instantly. She had a sniper rifle strapped to her back and can pull it out, aim, and fire in less than a second and still have a perfect aim.

Knowing she failed, she sat back down angrilly and strapped her rifle back on her back. She then decided to try not to think, hoping to not hear any comments from Schwa mentally.

...they better not. I hate having my brother or mom have to buy the game for me because I am sixteen (like what happened when I got Timesplitters: Future Perfect. Stupid ol' Wal-Mart employee). When I am seventeen, I will be happy that I don't have to rely on anyone to buy games...

...unless they up the rating. That would suck...

Sure, some mature games are really bad, but if you can trust the kids, let them get it. I have been playing mature games since I was less than ten and I don't want to go kill people in the open. It is how the kids take information is why video game violence is being blamed.

I also heard that the ESRB is planning on making a rating for between T and M, saying that T is PG and M is R. They need a PG-13 rating for it to be perfect.
*looks at a T rated game*
Oh look, it says "Ages 13+". Sounds very much like PG-13 to me.

Character Name: William
Age: 16
Home: Citra, FL
Height: 5 ft, 5 in
Weight: 110 lbs
Alignment: Good
Clothing: Orange shirt, black overcoat, black pants, black shoes.
Eye color: Brown.
Weapons: Boomerang Shooters, Random Bag (random items come out), Black Thorn (orange sword with black poisonous thorns).
Skills: Any skill from cartoons and video games and his own imaginable moves.
Bio:
William was a simple 16 year old. He rom hacked, was smart in math, and played many video games and watched cartoons. One day, however, the Windonian Empire from some universe attacked Earth. They went everywhere, trying to crush everything and everyone.

William did not like this, and set out to stop them. He found one of their underground bases in his hometown and did some stealth action like he has seen in Splinter Cell and a few other games. As he continued, trying to find the self-destruct sequence, he somehow triggered an alarm, causing all the guards to be even more alert than they were before.

William had no options. He looked around and saw a room with some items in there. One was a sword. It was called the Black Thorn because of the fact it had black thorn-like structures sticking out of it. Another item was a bag. A card inside stated it was a prototype, allowing the user to pull out any item or weapon from their imagination. The third item was a crystal. This crystal, however, was different. The user could easily transform it to any vehicle or structure imaginable.

With these items, William destroyed the underground base, made the crystal a ship, and set off into all the worlds in the universe to stop the Windonian Empire... no matter who got in his way...

After a few skirmishes, he met a few new people. Katie, a sharpshooter from Soamams, joined up with William after seeing a fight. Takana, an expert melee specialist, also joins up with William after being freed from the clutches of the Windonian Empire.

Difficulty: Average.

Name: Mawlo
Age: ???

Weapons: None

Bio:

After being abducted from the wild by Team Magma, the Mawile was forcefully put under harsh training to become less resistant to anything he was weak against. He, unfortunatly, couldn't fight his way out of their clutches to free himself. He was "rescued" by Team Aqua, who raided Magma's plan to blow up another volcano. Team Aqua brutally took Mawile and tried to make him learn every possible move ever made, using super evil objects to make him able to do any move, even if it wasn't logical. Then, Team Rocket kidnapped him while Team Aqua was trying to stop a raid from Team Magma. Rocket made this Mawile talk and learn to understand the human language. However, one training exercise made the Mawile keel over in the mud, making Rocket abandon him with no hope, no future...

The only luck he had was that William (see above) happened to find him and nurse him back to health. The Mawile told William his tale, and decided to team up with William to stop evil, no matter what.

William decided to call him Mawlo, just for kicks, and William didn't want him in a Pokeball, so he just walks alongside William all the time.

His relationship with Katie and Takana is good... although he is best friends with William, due to saving his life.

Tallest Red: "You sure this message is decoded?"
Mewquas: "Yes, it is."
Tallest Purple: "I don't know if it is..."

This magic can be used in both offence and defense. I did some research on it and have found out how to focus my energy into using this so-called magic. I can move objects at my will and can instantaneously call upon a flame or bolt of electricity."
Tallest Red: "That is cool!"
Tallest Purple: "Can you call upon donuts?"
Mewquas: "Sorry, but I haven't learned how to actually create a solid thing..."
Tallest Purple: "Than it see- wait, we got another call. We will await your next report."

Tallest Red: "Good, it has been a while, though, hasn't it?"
Mewquas: "No, not really. Last we met was-"
Tallest Purple: "That one planet that almost killed us all! Seriously, how could you not blend in there and get them?"
Mewquas: "Because... ummm... I crash landed there. The cause of the crash was unknown. However, I have found out that they have a grudge against the Irken Empire. They have made a cyber version of themselves that actually transforms into many other things. I have yet to figure out how they made it, but I can tell you that it is very aggresive. I almost ended up dead because of it."
Tallest Red: "Yes... something shorter than Zim is a threat. Big time."
Tallest Purple: "Oops. Another call."

Difficulty: Hard

I will probably end up cancelling Basic Land, as I seem to grow more ideas out of my mind every day.

The next hack that I will work on though will feature a new character: Tna the ant. He his on his quest to rescue T. Na from the evil Nat, the most evil ant in the world of Antdom.

You are probably thinking to yourself right now that it will have big tilesets. Well... no, not really. I want him to be a big character. Don't know why though...

I will add ASM hacks in it and will edit a whole lot of graphics, mainly sprite graphic edits. I just want a really different feel to the game universe. Instead of the standard Mario stuff, I want nothing in it from the original SMW besides the core engine.

...I just need some custom blocks.

Smallhacker: A Mario tile editor? Really? Hope to see that soon.

Yeah, the chalky look would make it a whole lot better. It would seem... more hand-drawn.

Still it is a nice idea. I have an idea for a level that is all color and stuff... but I doubt that...

One thing: EDIT THE STATUS BAR COLORS!!! Yes, you heard me right, change the colors of the status bar. Right now it would clash big time with the theme.

A one-world sliding hack would work a whole lot better than a full hack. I mean, you would just be sliding, jumping, and such...

But the only way that this will work is if you have a really awesome character slide sprite. Otherwise, it could be dull to watch someone sit and slide... make the character you use look like he is snowboarding or something... that would be cool.

The idea is good, but for a full hack it wouldn't be good. A fun hack would be nice in this style.

Level design is dreadfully important. Without good level design you really would have to cover it up with graphics and ASM modifications.

So, yeah, DW: TLC has poor level design, but some of the levels were good and the ASM hacks were impressive...

...although all the graphics were rips...

Posted on 04-16-05 09:33 AM, in William VS Schwa Link
William flew to the side of the arena after getting hit from the beam and Schwa's melee attack. He stands up with a few scratches on his face. He sees Schwa do some sort of pose.

William: "That all you got? Well then, guess it is time for the heavy artillery!"

William held his Black Thorn in front of him, the sharpened end facing up and the handle down. He closed his eyes and stood there quietly. Then he yelled.

William: "Fomidable Form!"

The blade split in two and each side moved to William's arms. A bright light flashed and the blades forged into an armor of sorts. The armor was a very light grey color with tinges of blue, red, and yellow among it. The armor continued forming around William, growing around his chest area and moving up to his face, which the armor dodged his face and formed a helmet above his head, which a sharp sword-like object stuck out. The armor formed around the legs, making them seem very thick and not very easy to move, which was misleading. His feet became covered up in the armor.

Just when the armor was finished forming, blades sprung out of his backside, which then a blue fire shot out of the bottom of the blades, acting as a jetpack of sorts. Orbs on both wrists (where a watch would go) shot out four blades out the sides, which then started spinning really fast. His knuckles shot out super slick blades, which were both one foot long. The armor was finished.

The armor was complete, and William hovered over the ground, blades spinning and armor glistening in the sunlight. However, William could not attack this turn, as he used it up making the armor.

Hmmm... teleportation... well, here is my opinion on that.

Teleportation could be a useful defence move, but if used it gives you a very unfair advantage. However, teleportation for entering a battle arena or leaving should be allowed, as the battle hasn't started/is over.

And besides, the only time my William character would teleport (hasn't yet) he would have to use a teleportation device such as the teleporter from the Worms series or a teleportation item... other than that, no teleportation.

I am wondering about godmodding though... some people think their character is ultra powerful or can't be touch by any attack... I find this annoying in some cases, especially when they use an ultra-powerful attack and... well, don't charge or don't have a negative effect... some characters that have progressed, maybe, but not new characters that haven't developed...

Here is what I do when starting a new hack, which is to get any ASM hacks that I will need from the start.

1. Extract GFX and ExGFX (I know... there aren't any ExGFX to extract)
2. Insert GFX, which for me installs the ASM hack.
3. Insert ExGFX (even if there aren't any).
4. Move one tile up and then back down. Save
5. Start editing.

If you follow those steps, you should get ExGFX to work.

And... umm... did you, by any chance, edit the ExGFX in an outside program? If so, were the graphics set to SNES or Genesis? Big problem if you forgot to change that.

William jumped out of his seat. He started heading to the arena, wanting the best seats in the arena. He wanted to watch a fight this time.

William: "Screw you all. I get BEST SEATS!"

William ran into the arena stands. He really wanted to watch this fight, so he went into the middle of the stands, front row center. He could see the fight in all its glory from where he was sitting. He reached into his sack and pulled out a Dr. Pepper and some popcorn.

William: "Alright! A whole bunch of fighters! ON A TEAM! This is going to be good."

William pulled out a air horn and pressed it down. The horn made a loud honking noise. He was excited and hyper. The battle was getting under way!

OOC: You said that spectators will be here in bold print, so I figured I would be one of them... hope this isn't a problem...
