The lava in screen three is weird, but other than else it looks very neat - though having broadband I don't like having these "large" screens (since my monitor won't display anything higher than 1152 x 864 without blurriness) for hacks

The new font looks neat, but like SM already said - the pallettes need to be fixed - the the two metroids in screen 5 have contrast colours and Samus, wearing the Varia (Suit), also looks better than in here plain standard robe/armor

There are some hacks I never came through with save-stating, like FPI's TSRP II - it begins ridicously easy, but later on there are long levels and some castles are just more than challenging. I just need to mention that castle where you are inside a level similar like a flipper. There are sparks ... many sparks - all of them are instant kill blocks
On the other hand there were hard, but very interesting levels - like the Deku Tree level - that was more than fun, although the time limit of 800 or 999 had its purpose. Going crossing various rooms, toying with different P-switches, that was more than fun

But I have to agree, some of Golden Yoshi's games were (too) challenging. The level design is great, but either I suck badly or the levels were too hard - even with a gamepad
But the same was it when I still was hacking ...

One level grabbed SMB3's theme with that grab-a-star-and-run-over-an-endless-row-of-munchers, but this SIX times in a row, with a lot of jumps, climbing fences, swimming and much more - only a time-limit of 200 and no midway-point. I thought it was a "little" challenging, as I, of course, was to able with some trial and error - others reported that level a save-state nightmare

For me "balls" isn't something special. If you wanted "balls" to translate the (informal) appropiate meaning, you would use "eggs" in the Gernan language ...

Try it on another computer. If it still fails, it is broken and should be brought back to the dealer -> warranty.
Even if it was cheap - the manufacturer has to develop something working, and if you still have warrany and haven't damaged it by yourself, it should be replaced anyay.

Copy the contents to another disc, it might not be the entire disc, since I hardly imagine a PSOne might store all files - hence the space on of mamory cards and the maximum size on a CD
Maybe there is a small file which contains information (like wpa.dbl, including the product key/hash in Windows XP for example) and could be replaced by an unaltered one

1.) Might it be that the gamepad simply is broken ?
You could try another gamepad first.
I have noticed that issue using the analogue pad of my Logitech Dual Action. I have to pop it open from time to time, pressing the petitiometers down using a screwdriver, then I apply some WD-40 on the petitiometers - and it works for a few days again
If it is no USB-pad, is there an IRQ conflict shown ?

2.) Same as 1.

3.) Try an older version. Maybe you either ran into a bug or a (maybe ?) requirement like .NET or another thing is not working properly.

4.) Maybe the intl.cpl simply is broken. If you dare try to replace it by using that one from your install CD or not whtihout "fagging" up the conmputer - I can't tell or even recommend

5.) As far as I know, BMP doesn't allow transparency at all
Use a tool like Irfan View to convert them to GIF (one-colour-transparency) or PNG (supports semi-transparency), but I don't know if this works on a PC outside a browser (like Firefox or Opera).

6.) Restart your computer - if your RAM is always full, it may be an error. I had this on Windows ME, where the icons changed, so .smc files had sometimes the IE icon until I rebooted

When I'm leaving the house, I close all windows and put down all roller blinds beforehand.
At least it is way less hot than leaving everything open and thus overheating.

Hence a car in a parking lot, exposed to full sun ... when you return, you'll almost die in the heat if you have no air condition installed

Posted on 06-14-05 11:25 PM, in MIDI input help needed Link
That might be only that problem, for Windows and/or applications "fight" for the resources. If there are two soundcards found, you might get no sound at all in the worst case. The only existing solution I know are special programs assigigning more than one audio source.
But I'm not sure about that. I only know that it is easier to make a onboard sound (what you don't have - at least you didn't put that in here) working with an own PCI sound card, if the mainboard does not disable that one automatically, if it found another one.

But since it is the MIDI port you need - that might not be a proper solution for your problem.

I don't talk about parallel streams with ONE card - you know, you open up a game and play Winamp in the background. If it is only the MIDI port, maybe there are certain models only provide that port (don't know) - or simply get a better overall soundcard than your current one, if yours is not already that, together with a MIDI port.

And, about the user colour. My favourite order might be:
White > Purple > Yellow. Blue or pink is just way too plain
Too bad it is not possible to change the colour scheme for every user. That would be nice, just similar to board themes, but affecting the username colors only.

Congrats to everyone.

And since the fireballs turn, it might be very weird to see turning shells

I also could say: "You must not use my avatar" (as stupid as it sounds, it took several hours to rip that nasty animation despite that nasty error when closing the flame, since the Playstation 1 doesn't know layers and I had to split out every one of his 37 different frames from the background manually. Low output for that small sprite ), but it is copyrighted by tri-Ace. You just could say something like "Please do NOT use my graphics", anyway, if a hack with stolen graphics is released, most of the people might recognize anyway if it was before or not.

Hence special palettes which were changed from the game - now they appear in another game.
Locking games is good for one thing - cheating through replacing levels, although you can't forbid that due to Game Genie codes. But I also won't recommend locking these too.

Then there might be people like "OMG I LOKED MY HAK I CANT UNLOK IT HLEP ME PLZ!!!!!111oneoneon", who just use something without paying attention to that.

This is used mainly for warnings and such, sent by staff users.
You might noticed there is no "Send new system message" for non-staff members.

I think it should just clear the overview - so if someone gets a lot of PMs regularly, he or she won't drop a warning PM from a admin or such - since they are separated from PMs.

Caffeine is bad when drunk to the same time again and again, since this will become something like a "custom", when you go the toilet for a session
After a longer time don't drink coffee/caffeine that day - there will be a problem going to the WC hat day

And caffeine doesn't affect me anyway. I may drink ten cups of coffee in the evening. when I'm very tired I fall asleep anyway.
By the way, I used to drink two cans per day some years ago, what is about 6-8 cups per day until I got problems with my stomach. Now I'm down to coffee only drinking on Saturday and Sunday - the rest is replaced by tea (and you can drink lots of it, although it doesn't has caffeine in it)

Posted on 06-19-05 06:38 PM, in A fact about final fantasy Link
Also Square said they were ... ashamed for their game Rudra no Hihou , but I and many other think it is one of the best RPGs ever, since I never saw that much about details and tons of animations. Despite the very simple turn-based battle system and except the spell creation system and extensive use of the elemental attack/defense system for equipment (a keystone in battling the otherwise tough bosses) it lived with its atmosphere and characters.

As for Final Fantasy in general, I loved part six and nine, also FF3j seemed quite good. Ephrion Noirope (If he was spelled right like that?) was an expert and by reading his posts on the old board I also got that game.
FF IX was maybe just "back to the roots", but it had quite a basic but very interesting story and good overall value.

I don't want to attack Square-Enix, but for example tri-Ace always put more effort into their games when it comes to replay value. They may not even close when it came to cinematics compared to the ones in FF, but their battle systems always invented something new (like Valkyrie Profiles's god-like battle/combo system) or added challenging bonus dungeons, new difficulty levels when finishing a game and so on.

But nevertheless, Final Fantasy is not bad (apart from part eight *cough* ), but as stated above me, simply worn out.

Left-click on the blue square in the top right corner of your task bar and set it back to "English".
If there is no icon there, go to Control Panel -> Regional Settings (or similar, I'm running a German Windows XP) and set it back to your language.

HyperHacker, you might want to disable the shortcuts for quick switch between languages.
It's in the Regional Settings inside tha Control Panel (alternatively click on the blue square in you tray and go to "Settings" -> Keyboard -> Keyboard shortcuts and disable both upper boxes there. Then you won't accidently switch languages when using combinations like ALT + other kay or CTRL and vice cersa.

This is a crappy attempt of translation, since I'm running a German Win XP as stated above

Plain and basic, you seem to use CSS, since attempts to display parts of the graphics result in Firefox wanting to have open files like "left.txt" and such.

Other than else it is good. It would be almost perfect if added slight light and shadow effects or with dirt on the walls - that might interfere that it should remain "simple", since it is no pre-rendered background like in RPGs an such

And, by the way, why didn't I click on the web comic in your signature before. It's great, although there are no many episodes yet

Go to ImageShack.

Registration is not required but recommended.
To upload an image you simply click the "Browse ..." button and in the opening window go to the file you want to have uploaded.

Now click on "Host it!" and after a few seconds the image will be loaded up.
Then use to display it in a post.

And, please do NOT use the extension BMP for images, due to heavy file size.
Better use PNG is strongly recommended for image files. If you have an older version of Windows not supporting PNG files in MS Paint, get Irfan View to save the images as PNGs.

This could be suggested in the staff forum(s), since this is a point affecting staff only (It would be weird if I suggested that, as a regular user).

If you already can close several threads in a similar way like the ModControlPanel in phpBBs using checkboxes and hitting a button below, you could close all older threads in couple of seconds locking entire pages of threads. ROM hackers wanting to revive their old threads could PM you about that - or simply leave all threads having offset- and other data open

And I also don't like deleting, I was a moderator in a bigger forum for a longer time but never trashed threads if they were not senseless (RPG Maker content, maybe people got active again and wanted to revive their old projects but didn't want to start a new thread) but only closed them.

And, BMF, the obvious questions - you cannot avoid them. You may paint thread title pink (if it was possible) with blink, marquee tags and font size 10, even then there will be these questions from time to time. Otherwise moderators would not be needed in forums

Valkyrie Profile:

You can have a maximum of 90.000 HP, so it is fun to see how the bonus boss deals a 26 hit-combo (and two extra strikes with at leastz 60k, more likely 100k damage) with a total of about 500.000 damage points to one character, her Cosmic Spear otherwise does 96.000 dmg on Lenneth and about 150-180k on everyone else - so she ensures to kill you in every turn, either one or your entire party. And my party IS maxed out and I have the best weapons available until now . People say she can be killed in one turn, but I don't do more than about 600-700k damages with specials, she as a few million of HP. The text in the books described also are weird (you can't use them but read their description only)
http://mitglied.lycos.de/mithrandir21/icksdeh.jpg

When tons of "12xxx"s pop up when she pulls out her Empress Masacre, it's funny. But I beat her six times already, each time getting another Book of Riddles. I wonder how many times I have to punch her lights out to get all the stuff
