I've written it in other threads, but everyone on this computer apart from my Mom has a profile of their own. Back when we got the internet connected, I made up a profile for my Dad, but something's gone weird with it, and I don't know what. In the Documents and Settings folder, there's 'Jim' and 'Jim.USER-KYOBOWMZDS'. The extra part at the end of the second one is our computer's name. I know that for a fact, 'cause that's the name the place we got the computer from put on it. The odd thing is, I set up his profile to use the name 'Jim', so you'd think his profile folder would have the same name. It doesn't. All the stuff stored on his desktop is in the 'Jim.USER-KYOBOWMZDS' folder. I tried deleting the folder titled 'Jim', but for some reason he lost all the stuff from his desktop after that I also tried completely deleting his profile and making a new one, but both folders came back. It's weird 'cause everyone else's profiles are all contained in one folder. It's like the two folders depend on one another for his profile to work That doesn't stop the computer for working properly. Everything else works fine and all. I'd just like to find a way to get all his stuff into one folder, and for it to stay there. I also wonder what caused this sort of thing to happen. It very well could be something he did when he used the computer, but if it is, I don't know what he did |

One example of an 'adult' game that comes to mind is 'The Guy Game' for XBox. Apparently my friends bought it, and he showed me a link to the site over MSN. I'll say I was surprised It's sad to see that sort of thing happening to some games. I've heard a few people say that the games are designed for the audience that buys the most, but it's gone a bit too far. At least they have the decency to make you have to produce some sort of proof of your age before you buy certain games. Conker's Bad Fur Day fits into the 'you have to be old enough' category quite nicley. The first time I actually saw it, we were at Blockbuster, and oh, how I wanted to rent that game so badly, but I was only 17. A couple months ago, I had the thought to look for a ROM of the game, and I see why they put the age restriction on it now I've never laughed so hard playing any other game though On violent games, I don't remember how long ago it was now, but we were having a conversation during supper about violent videogames, and my parents asked us if we'd every played Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, or other similar games. These days I play those sorts of games when I feel like it. I guess back then the concern about kids doing what they do in videogames (stuff involving guns, etc.) was a big issue. It may still be now, but I'm not sure on that. I don't know about someone else, but even if I had the chance to get my hands on a gun, I wouldn't shoot everything that came toward me Speaking of Doom, that's probably one of the more violent / eyepopping games I've played so far. Even though everything in the game is horribly pixellated most of the time, it still makes me uneasy when I see something like a body ripped in half and hanging from a tree or whatnot. I played the demo of Doom 3, and I have to say it looks quite violent as well. I still buy games that I want as long as I have the money, regardless of whether they're violent, intended for adults, or whatever else. I think I'm old enough to know the difference between what's real and fake, and to be able to handle those sorts of things appropriately. I looked into Half-Life 2 the other day; mostly some screenshots, and one of them that I remember was on a train or something, with some guy standing in front of you with a headcrab on his head. Blood's all over his shirt, obviously, and it made me think, "How far are they willing to take it?" It probably goes without saying that most games like that'll have some sort of parental control where you can set the level of violence, graphic detail, that sort of thing. I'm looking forward to the same two GCN games as Scatterheart right now. They both look real, which makes it more appealing to me. Sort of off topic, but I remember way back when we got our NES, how my Mom would spend practically every waking moment she had playing Mario These days she doesn't play videogames anymore, but she still sits down and watches us sometimes. It makes me sort of uncomfortable when I'm playing something on the computer that could be considered violent, and she sits down to watch me. I wonder what she thinks about it. |

Yep. I just took a look at weather.com, and according to what it says, it's supposed to snow later on this morning Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday of next week it's supposed to snow as well. We'll see just how accurate they are | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Originally posted by HyperHacker From the two of those, I'm more leaning towards something with his profile, because I haven't done anything with the network / workgroup settings since we got this computer. Like I already said though, for all I know, he could've gotten into something and messed it up by accident. If that's the case, there's a very good chance that he wouldn't know how to recreate what he did, since it's a) Happened more than a month ago now, and b) The most he knows about using the computer, he's learned from me telling him what to do This computer's not part of any network, besides the connection to the internet if you want to count that. My Dad said something about him having his own computer upstairs (I've yet to see it, but I've been assured many times over it's very old), and something about setting up a wireless network, so he could do what he needed to upstairs. I don't know if that's a for-sure thing yet. If it is, I can easily delete his profile from this computer, since he'll be using his own, and that'll solve the problem I noticed. Until then, how should I go about checking that things are set right? I've done everything I knew of, but I've had no luck so far |

The first time I heard of those sorts of things, I thought it was done by a different person standing in each room, with a different color lightbulb depending on if they needed a different color, and they just flipped the swtiches with extremely good timing The craziest thing I've ever done is played Mario 1 on a big screen at my old church groups in hopes to win some kind of prize. I didn't win It was fun to do anyways though (edited by Karadur on 11-20-04 02:25 AM) (edited by Karadur on 11-20-04 02:26 AM) |

Yeah. Those blocks look much better now The black-and-white colors on the status bar at the bottom actually look good there. I was actually playing the original on our NES earlier on tonight, and the game froze right when I got to the desert, and it was all black and white, except reversed from what your status bar colors look like You said we'll be able to expect a demo by the end of this month? I'm looking forward to it |

For all I know it could be something with SP2, because I'm pretty sure I created his profile after I upgraded It's not doing anything harmful to the computer that I noticed, so I guess I can just leave it alone for now. At least there's only two for me, unlike your three, BMF |
One other thing I forgot to mention first time 'round was: before deleting the folder titled 'Jim', I tried renaming it, and logging on as him, and when I checked the folder was back I guess there must be a reason for it. (restricted) | (restricted) |

If it helps any more, you could always take a look at the "what sex are you" thread in Anya and Christi's Corner, unless you have already The last few pages have an amount of stuff on that topic. I'll PM my answers to you as soon as I'm done the quiz |

See the site if you want to know what different files it can open The one thing I really like about this program is that it opens lha / lzh compressed files without requiring an extra program.

Erm... as far as I know, iframes are basically a website within a website. If you want to change the background color in the iframe, you have to set the color you want as a background in the page that will be displayed in the iframe |
In your case, you'd have to find some way to change the background color of fusionnews if you want it to look different in the iframe. I may be wrong though. See what someone else has to say first. (edited by Karadur on 11-20-04 07:39 PM)

To me, it's sounded so far like it's going to be good. Mostly stuff like WinFS, Avalon, etc. |
3D Windows and such? That'd be different to see, but it makes that old picture of an alert box saying 'Exiting Windows. Do you want to play another game?' more and more true. I don't see why you'd need a 3D Graphics Card just to use an OS. It just makes no sense to me That Google Desktop Search doesn't work for me It doesn't like my antivirus, and some dll somewhere. I forget where I read it, but apparently Mircosoft wanted to have a google search thing readily available in Longhorn, and thus tried to buy Google, but they were turned down The screenshots look really neat right now, but they first thing I don't like is the overly-big text in the folder name heading Oh dear god. Parental Controls? Eh... I guess they put the stuff in that everyone else says is needed. I'm quite glad I'm not a kid anymore though after seeing that

Apparently I'll die sometime in March 2026, due to alcohol poisoning That's fine and all, except for one thing: I don't drink |
I wonder. Do we have to celebrate our Deathdays just like we would our birthdays? (edited by Karadur on 11-20-04 08:22 PM) (edited by Karadur on 11-20-04 08:25 PM)

I think if someone gets drunk, it's their own choice to do so. Even if they're under peer pressure to, they have the ultimate choice of drinking or not. So there's no real difference to me, with the example you gave (getting drunk / punching someone in the face) |
I haven't made any attempts to get drunk in my life so far, with the exception of a weekend where I was made to have a bit of Vodka mixed with pop. I don't think I ever will either, mainly because of the things that can happen after you've had a bit too much to drink. This is probably a stupid question, but the 'You can't consent if you're drunk' thing. What does it cover? Everything, or just specific things. If it's everything, I can understand why you think the law should be removed.

Legion, that is just plain freaky It also looks kind of uncomfortable for that quadriplegic guy to have that hole in his head (as well as the metal-looking thing that's around it). I can understand why he'd want it though, but still, I hope it's only going to be considered for people that end up in the same position he was in |
