Yes, I still have to put him back to i'ts original phase, that was a test long ago, dunno why I didn't fixed this yet, anyway the sprites I used were missing too much animations, So I let him this way.. hopefully I will repair it before a release that's for sure!

Small changes to the rom ? ok.. I'll update the link in that case...

OK. You might haven't noticed yet, but first off there are no brown paths over the grass, That means I use all of these to make my own ones, then I reuse a lot of them like you said... I never really used the serach fuction althrough it would have helped a lot, instead I search the old way... From screen to screen I paste the tile I wanted to fit with another one... until I found the perfect match, In other words, I made a search of my own trough all existing places... Then for the custom tiny blocks (smaller ones).. I use whatever I didn't used... (e.g. those tree? bushes next to Hyrule Castle entrance, I edited them to my owns.. and times later, I used whatever I feel right to modify.. Of course, the overworld wouldn't have look so much hot if it wasn't for tile editing...

EDIT: OK, Your Z3 hack with fixes as been re-uploaded sucessfully...

You means when you exit doors from the overworld you see things like that:



There's an *EASY* ways for those experienced with HEX Editing.. Not my case... So I asked the question to Euclid and here's the answer:

For the overworld doors question, yes you can fix it, but you have to know a bit about hex and how it relates to the rom. The offset is 0x15924 for door location, the data goes like this:

at 0x15924
eg/ 08 16 (lil endian) - entrance 00 (2 bytes)
----yyyy y-xxxxx- x and y represents positions in bits, and you'll use the same positions as you would if you put an exit there. '-' means unknown/unused.

so for magic shop you'll have to add that (entrance number * 2) to 0x15924 and you should have that position.
hope that's clear enough.


Well, I didn't understand quite as I know nothing as for HEX but you might be able to fix your bugs with that!

Well I consider yourself quite good compared to the majority.. Your knowledge is awesome, you even surpassed NeonX, which is good... I just can't wait for your hack to be complete... as for mine, right now, I'm undergoing major GFX changes, I use GFX from other Zelda games... and in the end, it looks very good... I'll show more pics when I'm done... as for the dark world, it's progressing surely but slowly (fixing damn bugs) another thing changed for my light world is the layout once again; after removing the bridge next to the castle, I was getting those nasty scrolling bugs again, so I decide to seal that part and make tohe way to the castle by the village... (original kakariko village) it changes the overworld a bit too.. Anyway... I'm probably going in vacancy tommorow... After that this project will be iced for about 2 weeks..

Anyway here's some of the new graphics:

That would be great indeed! Never though of that... And as for the plot black, I was thinking, like the spell could have been cast by a boss (e.g. Aghanim before going awy cast apocalypse, and here's the corrupted world you talked about sometime ago! Anyway, I'm almost over with my dark world, still in the pictures process... very long proces... kinda like the last time... Somehow, I've redone a bit of work for my light world (e.g. new textures... edited hyrule castle in a way thats it's accessible via secret passage and village only.. so I don't get GFX bugs.. Anyway, last post for me.. vacancy finally starting today... So here's the castle and new GFX I was talking about:

That happened to me once... I edited a few dungeons, then came back to the overworld and that's what I saw, pretty much the same thing... And as I did not keep backups at that time, what I did is redo all the GFX from scratch using another rom which tells me the positions of the GFX... Overworlds getting corrupted are really annoying.. A good thing to do however, would be to make backups often.. because you never know when HM will do such things...

EDIT: Or if you see everything normal in HM and it bugs when you play, that's because of the layout you used... You have to be careful while editing the layout, because some will easily crash your emu for good.. exemple:



If that does not help, tell me more about how the problems happen...

When editing overworlds, can the master sword screen and zora fountain places be re-located somewhere else ?

Also, when editing overworlds (again..) can you completely get rid of the dark mountains brown grass ? through hex editing or somewhat ?

Why not while were at it... (BTW... I update it as often as people ask questions "yet unanswered".. I'm gonna revamp it in further releases in a way, that the part (question/answers) will be part of their respective sections... (e.g. question about ASM; i put the answer in the ASM section instead..) because in the end there will be like 50+ question/answers.. Not useful IMO, if you search for something in particuliar.. Thanks for the compliments... As for the dungeons; well Garmichael is figuring most stuff of it while I masterize the overworlds... So in other words, the more people get involved.. the better it is..

Euclid, seeing how you made your overworlds just makes me want to fix those GFX errors... I find your overworlds amazing besides these bugs... You made a great overworld hack IMO.. I'd really like to beta test it aswell (Is applicable of course )

Well the fact that you can't fing everything wrong is probably because I work too hard on the worlds... Anyway, I'll make a dungeon or two, make the houses etc.. change the text, sprites, and a few other things... Then the first private beta should be released... About the beta testers, there is about three of them already... So let's say ten of them would be fine.. So as of now..

1 - Euclid (The best Z3 modder out there I guess )

Edit 2: I suggest that before you give the rom to anyone, you make it perfectly clear that it isnt to be given to friends... ect. That is usually how betas are leaked, and it would be a real shame for such a work of art to be released before its ready.


Don't worry you won't be able to go swim in that area... As for the beta testing... yes I signed you up.. considering you are doing your second hack already, you might have facility to find bugs..

Well as for the private beta... I hope it doesn't get leaked.. but you never know what people can do.. The least I will do is lock the rom so it can't be read in HM..

Well you can expect it when it'll be done! I won't push myself up to the limits to make a fast release, that's for sure... Unless you want a bad beta with full of bugs in it... I'll take time to do a really fine product.. Talk about a company quality release.. So when the first set of dungeons be done, you'll know.. You just have to be patient.. Let's try not to rush the release, that's it.. The longer it takes, the better it'll be... Anyway that's what I think, feel free to think waht you want

BTW, happy birthday DarkSlaya! 19 years old isn't nothing

EDIT: And yes, locking the rom is a good idea.. Think about all the time I worked into this... we sure don't want to be stolen there... Dunno why this option wasn't implement in HM... conserering it has been available all the time for LM...

I'll do everything to not make you guys wait this long, cuz I know it's a real pain in the ass to WAIT for something you really want to try...

nah don't rush it, i'm not rushing mine, although i did expect a beta in sometime August (this month!) but that was an estimate when i started which i never announced (back in last year September) yep it's like 1 whole year soon.

locking the rom is probably not going to fix the problem with people stealing the work (it's rather... easy to unlock) for those quite good with hex editing.

One good way to make sure people can't copy your work is to redo the compression formula (and of course fixing the rest of the data into the new one) but that's kinda hard.


LOL, don't worry, I won't make mine in time before yours; you're way ahead of me! Well As I recall I only started this project like (is it 2 months?)... and you right now are about to start your 11th ? ... And I gonna ask you about that compression method of yours someday, say in a year or so... LOL, when the final hack be released..

Well that's what I think at least... Because having to make a release date, is surely the worst thing you can do, unless you are really sure... Well, maybe I should start focusing more on the Dark World, then revamping the Light World so much... And Garmichael showed me some of his work on the dungeons, looks great... Now I just got to find Blackhole89, which was making the plot; or find someone competent to do it, because to make great dungeon layouts we need inspiration from the story itself.... Or else they will be usual dungeons...

I have seen this, yeah... Pretty annoying bug.. and i'd really like to know how to correct it. I don't have access to my PC, right now, so I won't be able to find a fix... What I think however is that this portal to dark world is hardcoded in the game (would need hex or asm to change the place)..

Don't worry, even if a million people helped me, I would still be doing my job, no mather what... And just to be mean, I'd say I'm still not done with the Over Worlds; I continualy update them to the better... So let's just say those screens are far from perfection IMO... There are a few things which still buggers me (e.g. the desert dungeon entrance ---> where you use the mudora book to open the path... doesn't work in that screen... ALSO: the area where the watergate originally is, can't be modified in both worlds... meaning you can't have different GFX from the light to the dark world... when trying to have em' modified, HM fatal crash..!) So because of HM limitations, I will have once again to modify a few thins again to have two perfect *working* worlds...

Just wait and see, when I'll be back @ home, I'll post a slightly updated Light World as well as more screens from the Dark World >had no time when I got away from home< .. so y'all be the judges.. Well since ur doing the plot aswell as a few other things, I'm willing to send you the private beta aswell.. About the word "vacances", that's french eh ? You should have said vacation I believe... Anyway as for you to do more then the plot itselves, I'm not against it.. A long as it's done wisely..
