I'm using Paint Shop Pro 7 and Animation Shop Pro 3 since I like creating animated sprites
I don't like the auto resize feature for avatars; rather implement a warning that denies the usage of bigger avatars from pixel size. Maybe increasing the mas amount of pixels (not just limit the width to 60 pixels) to, let's say 80 x 80 or even 100 x 100 pixels, that would be good, although this would not affect me, since I don't notice any difference from my avatar: It is 63 x 63, but the three missing lines are just the transparent colours -> no real image loss at all

Posted on 03-19-04 10:59 PM, in CUSTOM MUSIC - IN MARIO WORLD [ASM] Link
The address of the public IPS file from DemoWorld 3 I lost, it was in the Lunar Magic Beginner's FAQ; I didn't have a backup (the text file where it was saved originally vanished from my hard disk somehow ), so ask Legalos, he has the IPS file hosted on his server
The official way how to get the SMB3 SMAS music even into an existing hack, explained FuSoYa as followed:
1) Apply DW3's IPS to a fresh copy of SMW.
2) Apply DW's IPS to a second fresh copy of SMW.
3) Examine the size of your hack's ROM. If the ROM is less than 2 MB, use Lunar Expand to expand it to 2 megs. If it's already more than 3 megs, you have a problem...
4) Use Lunar IPS or SNES Tool to create an IPS patch using DW as the "unmodified" ROM and your hack's ROM as the "modified" ROM.
5) Apply the patch you just created to the DW3 ROM. This ROM will now be your hack, which will have DW3's music.

Oh, that news is cutting edge, wheeee
We already noticed a rapid increase of new SMW hackers since more since about a year ago; but to see FuSoYa's precious editor in a magazine, is quite neat and he deserved it
This is similar to one person in the German RM2k scene. "Marlex" created Vampires Dawn and later the game made it onto a CD from a famous game magazine, thus getting a shitload of new people registering on some RM2k boards too (at least on "our" one where I post regularly ^^)

Let's see if ROM hacking will get more and more popular or not

Maybe the Newbie Forum really makes no important sense, but I think it was here since the beginning; and it is another feeling to have his "own" thread instead to share one with many other people
Also you can check for new replies quicker than scrolling a thread with 200 or even more pages for example.

So I'd rather go with keeping it ... it got part of the board, as other forums in other messageboards grew also

Thread titles like "Help !!!!!!1111oneoneon" in computer (sub)forums cannot help at all. The object needs to be mentioned clearly; as for me I rather keep longer titles but explanatory ones (doubt the fact I rarely started threads - it were about 40 before the board crash )

Usually clear thread titles have to be expected from anyone who creates them.

Stickying this thread might not prevent people from posting dumb thread titles, as
First, some people don't read stickied threads as all,
Sedond, are too lazy to try out Google, like on game-specific questions which can be solved far better looking in the proper FAQ/walkthrough,
Third, proper thread titles should go without saying

Including it into the forum rules, finding them in /FAQ.php into the DOs and DONT's, would fit better than that

Yeah, that could be pretty neat
Just think to a thread in ROM Hacking for example:

"Some weird problems with No$GB"
Subtitle in smaller font below - "Some right parameters don't work "
Edit: Weird, the last two posts from me just were made at the exact same time with Legion and Xeogread

I think the file size of about 500 megs should also reduce the amount of downloaded copies illegally. Although many people do this with any software in the Internet, there are major differences. RM2k3 including the required RTP has less than 30 megs of size
And, yes, the requirements are beefy. But probably this has something to do with the large amount of stuff the game has to handle, such as the higher resolution with more FPS, encoding sound files etc.

I registered as GandalfTheSorcerer, since -The Grey was taken at that time
Later I switched permanently to Gandalf The Grey; once I changed my name to Surlent for two weeks ... at least that name fitted right, since it is the name of my avatar's sprite

Posted on 03-20-04 06:46 PM, in Naming Guidelines [Rules] -or- If I renamed your thread, read this. Link
You actually mean adding prefixes for thread titles shown in the parantheses
Usually it might me okay, but on the other hand threads with screens, a demo, introduction of a new ASM hack might be too confusing to have a [Screenshots, Download, ASM] before the normal thread title
The basic idea is neat, so you already know from the title, what the thread promises
It's up to the peopleif they will use these prefixes every time ... a new member probably won't read a sticked thread like this one or just say "That's dumb!".
Well, other opinions ?

Why not simply doing a test of it ?
You could make it a forum announcement (or for testing it: A sticky thread, the forum won't be already overcroweded with those like before the crash ), or probably talking with Fu and BMF first ...
Along with fitting thread titles it should be only a question of time: As long there will be more and more these guiding thread titles, more and more other and newer users could use them too

Firefox' links are saved in a file called bookmarks.html. Where your bookmarks are, depends on the operating system and the profile you selected for using Mozilla or Firefox.
You can open the file in any text editor and probably copying the addresses manually to Opera

There is a small glitch in the game: After finishing the second level in world #2, the path shown is garbled, but nonetheless works correctly. Imo the shortcut saves a mass amount of levels, when you only need to play two levels to get to castle #2
But other than that, pretty good hack. I liked the first underwater level; fish emerging from turn-blocks, hehe
Stillo need to finish the demo, though

I'm like possessed from the SNES RPG "Rud(o)ra no Hihou", the o in parantheses is not pronounced in the title usually, but used to be written
My avatar I ripped from that game, it's Surlent from his chapter and a chain from the animations
- "giving command to cast a spell" - "casting animation" - "victory pose" and loops forever ^^

My experience bar is a simple rip from Breath of Fire II - nothing to special
The post background is the japanese title screen from Rudra, while the sig image is a creation of a nice girl "Tequila" I know in another forum =]
Since there is no artwork for Surlent at all, I really think she did good work ... doing the character from scratch on. Some people said, it looks a little too shrunk, but I'm satisfied totally and like this sig image

Posted on 03-21-04 01:12 AM, in Survey about the board; How can we make the board easier to use? Link
I'd appreciate some minor changes:
- Clicking on "Last post in" link in someone's profile redirects to the right page and post direclty, like when you just submitted or edited a post
- Deleting the first post in a thread should be impossible for the creator, or allowing him to delete the thread as well when there is no reply (what I won't so if I were an admin; a user should know when to start a thread or when not)
- Displaying and adding AIM, YIM, MSN accounts in thread.php too.
- For a mod or admin a mod cp might me good; like in phpBBs to close/unlock or delete several threads at one in a forum by marking the thread(s) and clicking on the proper button below (yes, a weird suggestion since I'm no staff here; but I use this feature in another forum and know its advantages )
- The preview of newreply.php should list also the previous posts; it may happen that you just preview a post in an active thread and you end up posting a similar post while someone submit just the same, only with other words

For a free host use Lycos. It has unlimited bandwith and is down rarely ... at least the German servers. And they also allow to link to their files externally

Next time think before you post

In RM2k3 you can already switch the battle system; also animated heroes can be used
But as for the battle system, anyone who does not like the default BS, simply makes his own ... like already in RM2k, like in A Gate into Eternity or Kindred SaGa for example

This was answered in the Lunar Magic Beginners' FAQ by Maticolotto or BMF I think.
Unfortunately I don't have a backup of my general FAQ (), but one ASM hacker out here could probably be able to answer that question

Doesn't work at all for me, neither in Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox or K-Meleon
Get another host, Lycos for example at least allows external linking and is one of the more stable freehosts
