Can I make a simular request? Has anyone found the offset for what sprite a stomped Koopa spawns? I was hoping to make it spawn a near instant exploding Bob-omb to simulate Nokobons from SML

I don't know much about electronics but I think that it wouldn't overload if you made only one system work at a time, I don't see how you'd get both systems running at the exact same time even in one combined machine, unless you pull some kind of split screen dealie that loads every other scanline to make it half as tall and then swap the system that is outputting video and then do that every other scanline, but I don't think you are doing that, unless you are trying to play two versions of Sonic via Sonic Jam and the Genesis.

Just a little bit of info I learned with this editor on how pipes work that should be known. The pipe tiles that let you go down and up need to be set up correctly or they will either be inenterable except the sides, send you through the ground till you enter an odd glitchy land, or both. This image demonstrates a working pipe.(well, technically it didn't work downwards but the reason for that is offscreen so ignore it) I put an invisible layer of colors ontop of the image, the green is where the left side of a pipe needs to be, the blue is where the right side should be. Strange things will happen if it's positioned wrong. I've made an image of all the problems that I've come acrost with pipes. A shows the right way to align a pipe, Mario goes down it in the center, and everything looks and acts correct up there. B shows the wrong way, this pipe is misaligned, and Mario goes down the sides of the pipe and not the center. C shows how the end of each pipe should be, correctly. There needs to be a two tile by two tile set of moveable space for Mario to enter into, even if he is Small Mario, for a pipe to work right. D shows what happens if you leave one tile or less of free space for Mario to move in. Even as Small Mario he will ignore it and continue to move through the ground until he finds room, leading to an odd glitch area below the actual level. E shows what happens if you mistakenly use the wrong tile. This is an invisible solid tile, possibly an invisible block of somesuch. It's easilly thought to be air, however, it is solid and Mario passes right through it looking for true free space! F shows an example of a culprit tile that causes this. G shows a proper free space air tile. H shows the tile numbers on the side of the editor, you should try and remember which tile number is for free space if you plan on making new pipes and rooms. The left one is the currently selected tile, the right is which one your mouse is over in the tile selector. And that's it for this time class! Tune in next time for more Super Mario Land 2 Editing Class! |

Has anyone taken the idea of a SMW beta recreation hack that tries to recreate some of the leftover stuff found? If not, maybe I could make it a side project of mine. The title there looks based off of the japanese title screen also(with the shadow), but it's still quite different. Also, those SUPER MARIO BROS. tiles are still inside the rom, making it even more recreatable...

Will we really know when it's up? There'll be a new announcement but other then that are the new things big and noticable or tons of small things we'd never notice ourselves like profile options?

The only thing this needs now is for the commands in the original engine for changing music to be hooked onto the new engine. I noticed you didn't simply replace the old engine because some of the original songs such as the star and flagpole play while the Duck Tales 2 music plays... EDIT: Also, you wouldn't happen to be able to tell me what 4000 bytes or whatever need to be changed to exchange music between compatable Capcom games? Just curious, it's kinda fun playing games with different music engines. (edited by Someguy on 08-14-05 09:16 PM) |

What's the point? With the suit on, all that the flames will do is make you feel hotter right? It's not the life or death deal that I expected to hear unless the suit will melt if you get burned too much, then it'd make more sense... but then it also might be called murder

I figure this is the last GBA thing, for those who either haven't gotten a GBA and want a stylish system to play the 700 + selection of GBA games, plus unlike the SP it has official faceplates so color changes won't be as hard as buying a whole new system. It also has less of a childish appearance and would probably fit in a work environment better then most or all the SP designs. The backlight also may be a plus for those lacking a Nintendo DS, plus if it supports GCN connectivity or can get an addon for that for a low price, and it supports multiplayer, it isn't that bad. And if it sells bad, Nintendo will discover the world has no need for a candy bar sized GBA and that the SP and the original do well enough.

You planning on asking for a little help in getting the overworld Mario animations to be just right and to make him move as fast as SMB3? Not that such a tiny detail would detract from such a hack, it's just I can't think of anything else to say that hasn't been said... except is that Peach's castle type place inspired by the Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom movies? EDIT: Oh yeah, and I think a better head to edit off of for an up frame would be the one from the title screen in SMB3 where Mario looks up, though it may be too big and that may be why you didn't use it... I myself slightly wish that the grey text was red so it'd fully be a one color type layout, but that may make the "burning" effect worse. It doesn't effect me however, and I think it's awesome, it looks neat, yet is not too complex. (edited by Someguy on 08-27-05 02:56 AM) |

It may be me but I actually love the pipe alot, gives it a much more uniqe feel, SML was Mario like yet at the same time had a different style. I don't know about you but I myself would try and keep the style that it had, even if some people think it's "bad".

Try sprite E7, it's a type of autoscroll that wasn't used apparently. It's Auto Scroll Special 1, if you move it down it'll become 1-A, 1-A doesn't work perfectly with the cage but 1 does. Layer 2 even moves up and down, possibly meant to be like the movement of the cage, and nothing moves too fast to make Mario act odd in the cage! 1-A however is kinda odd, it makes things move quite fast somewhat, especially the BG layer. It's not that far of a comparision to say it may of been a prototype for the one level in Forest of Illusion's scrolling...

I also could tell the Tweeter was in 1-1, I remember that place exactly, the pow block and all! I kinda like the SMA version the best, simply because they added points and 1-ups and I think afew more enemies, and it makes the, ahem, "carnage", more exciting with all the stuff on the screen. =P

I don't know how I missed that last splurge of comics, I mean they are like so awesome, one of the only sprite comics on the internet that doesn't suck... It'd make a great movie too, but you stick awesome special effects in every comic so that'd be hard to simulate in real time with sprites... |
