Originally posted by Davis I added more egg blocks in that room along the way, that way you don't have to go back to the beginning of the room to get more eggs. Hopefully the level will be better that way. And Peardian, I have no clue what you're talking about with 2-4. |

Yes, that's why I don't know what he's talking about. In 2-4, the BG moves along with the FG, just like in the rest of the levels. I don't know what his problem with 2-4 is though.

I know I said I wouldn't post the demo here, but as many of you know I'm very indecisive, I'm always changing my mind, and I'm a flip-flopper. Even if I don't get replies, I'm still working on it because I enjoy hacking Yoshi's Island...so there! I had a lot of fun making this hack, and it would suck to give it up. Ok, let me know what you think once you play it. Anyone...

You really thought the fuzzy part was easy? I thought it was a bit tough, even for my own hack. Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about that part being too difficult now . Did you only get up to 2-5? EDIT: This is why I didn't want to post the hack here. I shouldn't have posted it here at all like I had originally planned, I've gotten even less replies than the last demo. I'm still going to continue it like I said, but now I know not to post it here. 3-1: The Rock Quarry The new demo is out, just go to my website to get it since it's not released on the board. |

Thanks, you are right though. I know that there are people that do like my hack, and I thank the people who support it. They are the reason I want to make this hack. It's just that I want to have a certain audience for this hack, a group of people that are interested in the hack and want to play it to enjoy it, and also give comments, suggestions, and bug reports. I just don't think that this ROM hacking forum is a good audience for my hack. Not too many people are interested in YI hacks right now, probably because the editor isn't that far along. I don't want to let any lack of replies get in my way and discourage me, because it did last time. And now this time I got even less replies, exactly as I guessed in my last demo thread, I predicted that if I released another demo it would get even less replies, and I was exactly right. So I just have to find the right audience for this hack, which unfortunately isn't this forum. I don't take any offense for the lack of replies, nor do I ridicule anyone here for not playing my hack, I just enjoy hearing feedback about my hack, which several people have provided me with. So, I think it would be best not to post any information about SMW2+ here, because I can be sure not to be let down by a lack of replies, and I'll know I'm getting the feedback from the people who are actually interested.

Thank you, I am now resigning from promoting my hack on this board. This thread can now be closed, there's no use for it. (edited by Golden Yoshi on 12-16-04 10:11 AM) |

I am curious because there are a few Yoshi's Island hacks out right now, but they tend to get very little replies. My latest demo of SMW2+ which I've been showing tons of screens of for the past few months got no replies besides my beta testers, and Peardian's Yoshi's Island hack was completely ignored, and I don't really understand why. I think some factors may be because EggVine isn't very far along and Squash Monster has been very busy with other matters, or maybe it's just that people just aren't interested in Yoshi's Island. I'd like to know what you think, just to understand if hacking Yoshi's Island is really worth it for me and the other hackers, or if this forum is the appropriate place to post Yoshi's Island hacks. Thanks.

I think my timing with the release of my world 2 demo of SMW2+ was pretty bad. My first demo received many replies because EggVine was on the verge of being released and everyone was rather hyped up. Now the Yoshi's Island community is very dorment, because only a few people use the editor, and there haven't been any updates from SM lately, so this is probably why people don't respond to Yoshi's Island hacks. I think it would've been better to have released it to the few people who enjoy playing these hacks rather than post it on this board where people aren't very interested in YI at the moment. That would've saved plenty of discouragement for me, and possibly other YI hackers. I won't release a demo on the board anymore, unless YI interest significantly picks up again, which probably won't be for a long while, if ever.

Maybe I'd get more replies if it was a full version, but I plan to release one more demo before the full version, of world 3 & 4. It would probably be better not to post it here then. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for all your opinions. This forum isn't that much into YI hacking, and I'm better off making my hack for the hackers and players that are hardcore rather than most of the people here who do not have any interest. I just wonder if more people will become interested as time goes along, or if YI hacking will turn out to be short-lived. Whatever the case, I still want to contiue my hack, no matter what ANYONE says!

Sure, an editor like EggVine isn't the most user-friendly and even after using it since August, I still have to guess the positioning and sizing of a lot of tricky objects, which usually ends up in me having to restructure the level due to limitations. The byte limit is an issue also, since I usually make large stages, and I have to use up other levels in order to have enough room for the entire stage. Heck, I don't think I'm going to have enough levels to make World 6, since I used up a lot of parts in the last world in order to expand my earlier worlds. But aside from the lack of graphics, sometimes nearly-impossible object sizings and positionings, and the byte limit, I put all the issues aside because I'm determined to make a great (although I'll settle for decent due to the limits of the editor) hack of YI. Not to sound too full of myself, but probably not many of you can make YI levels as good as mine at this point. This is another reason why I want to hack YI, because I don't have too much competition. And I suppose the reason there's a lack of competition is not only because people can't use the editor, but because not so many people are interested in YI. Well, whatever the case, I carry on. Nothing will stop me.

Get rid of it, IT'S A GLITCH!

Originally posted by Peardian Really, not a glitch? That little warbled ugly thing at the bottom looks like a glitch to me. Even if you wanted to add 2 player gameplay, you should avoid any glitch at all costs, especially one as obvious and inevitable as that one. You haven't gotten anyone to say yes in keeping Gronky, you've got 5 people to say to get rid of it, so you should start taking suggestions, especially when you're the one asking for them, starting with getting rid of that glitch, and a whole bunch of other things. Merry Christmas! |

Originally posted by Peardian Why do you keep saying it's not a glitch? It may be the wrong tileset, but the graphics are completely warbled and do not fit together at all. Plus, this sprite really isn't meant to be used outside the mini-game, and it doesn't even have ideal properties to be properly functional in normal levels. So with all that, I think it's safe to say that your so-called "Gronky" character is somehow related to the glitch family. As for the level being difficult without it, just make that part of the level easier, since a lot of the hack is pretty difficult already. |

Regardless of whatever the hell it is; a bug, a glitch, or a programming error, it is still something that is improperly used in the levels and is not used in the correct sprite set, thus resulting in an awkward display of graphics. Hence, Gronky = bye bye, unless he can find the correct sprite set. Even with the right set it still isn't meant for outside the mini game.

Good, I'm really glad you finally took the advice of others and made a change. Don't feel too bad that you had to get rid of Gronky, it was buggy/glitchy/etc to begin with and didn't work properly, so it's not as if you're getting rid of something totally awesome.

Screen 1: Are those walking eyeballs? They look alright, I like how you reconfigured the monty mole holes. Screen 2: OW looks decent, I like the dark effect to it. Screen 3: Er...Mario head? Screen 4: Nothing too impressive here. Screen 5: Nice ravens, which sprites do they replace? Screen 6: Pretty nice BG. Screen 7: Good BG, but I'd suggest making the FG darker. Screen 8: Looks a bit plain, interesting squid at the end. Overall, it looks okay. |
