well, that wouldn't be an entirely terrible idea at all. it's generally harder to work and adapt an older and more cumbersome system than it is to tear everything down and replace everything with more modernized components.

and in regards to the 1.8a currently 'released' version of the board code... well, it's fairly 'dated' and cumbersome enough :\

HTML is not a programming language, nor is CSS.

CSS is a descripitive computer language, and HTML is (as the acronym suggests) a 'markup-language', and GML is a markup language as well (although i've never actually seen anyone use it as i don't ever deal with maps or anything like that).

brainfuck is fairly impractical and esoteric.

oh yah, i program in Ook, hardcore.

i'd say i've become rather proficient with PHP in the last month... at least proficient enough to be halfway through a board system..

you were saying

and thanks to Para for coding the feature (it was in FCEUd in incomplete form)

furthermore, i believe bbit was that it in fact does not directly edit the rom file, rather it makes it's changes to the data stored in the RAM that the emu is running off of only. There is, just as you were asking for, a File -> Save (+ Save As) menu option.

doesn't look too bad. I'm currently using Dev-PHP 3.0 and it's been really great. Basically all the features you've listed excluding a complete function browser as part of the editor (it only had it manifested in the Documentation)

also, did this have a built in browser, i'm being too lazy to check. i'll give the program a go, though.

it's GUI is actually rather annoying. The syntax highlighting seems to be relatively slow compared to Dev-PHP. No built in browser. I really don't need almost any of the toolbars on there.

All in all, i'm sticking with Dev-PHP. For me, it's just better.

The website:

Somebody give me a quick and dirty way to get started with FCEU?

my only guess is that you are downloading the source instead of the pre-compiled binary file. this file from this page. (only directly linking so he gets the right file)

try that, then the icon that looks like an NES

double-clicking or on File -> Open ?

are you're PHP files associated with PHP Designer 2005 and not with Dev-PHP?

How is using non-standardized? Just because it is depreciated doesn't make it non-standard... not unless you are pushing for CSS to be used... then I can see how using such formatting tags can lead to inconsistencies...

what? you didnt jump on the new wave of internet savyness and declare war against all deprecated and non-standard web code?

What I mean is stomping out potential crippling bugs in games (I'm thinking specifically of the "Scuzz never falls down" glitch in Level 10 of Battletoads...looking at the code, figuring out what it is that causes him to not fall down, and editing it)...in all, if someone decided to go that route, this could be a very useful tool indeed beyond the more traditional hacking applications.

Granting, you can do this anyway, but something like this seems like it would make it a whole lot easier.

actually it certainly can. And FCEUXD has a special option that would be extremely helpful finding something like this, along with the normal breakpoint settings for the debugger, there is a very useful option to "Break on Bad Opcode". Now, normally a game should pretty much never be reading a Bad Opcode, it means that something bad happened to the game and the PC was thrown into oblivion, or a bank wasn't swapped at the correct time, or any other number of oddities that can make a game crash.

i just recently used the bad opcode breakpoint in conjunction with the trace logger to find the code executed directly before the game crash. it's really amazing what this thing can do

well, what does your code look like? keep in mind that cookies are part of the header information of a page so they have to be set before any html.

CSS font

all the same, if anything it's just good practice to make sure your code is in working order. of course there are the occasional slip-ups.. but if you think about it, you really should't have to be reviewing your entire program for the syntax error. At least i know when i design i run the program a few times before it's completion, so you just check the most recently coded portion after the last time you ran your program.. not too big of a deal, really. *Gavin shrugs*

Dragoon X Omega II

Thaddeus made this little page last night as sort of a credits/project summary. I think just about everything about the hack is detailed in this page.. So instead of wasting my breath re-stating what Thadd just took the time to create and better articulate, just check out the link.

All I can say is that from the relatively short amount of time I've been working with Sliver-X and Thaddeus on DXOII, they have impressed me like no other hackers have. They have truly put in an amazing amount of work and thought.. If this wasn't a hobby, i'd be tempted to pay them

well, windwaker had a similar problem a little bit ago with PHP.. or pretty close anyway.

my solution was just a simple set of code to put the selected file into an array of lines:

$filename = 'file.txt';
$contents = fread (fopen($filename, 'r'), filesize ($filename));

$file_array = split ('\n', $contents);

$line_count = count($file_array);

echo ("Lines in file: " . ($line_count + 1));
echo ("
Line 3 and 4 added: " . $file_array[3] . $file_array[4]) . "\n";

for ($x = 0; $x < $line_count; $x++) {
$occur_count = substr_count($file_array[$x], '/');

if ($occur_count > 0) {
echo ("$occur_count matches in file $filename, on line $x");
}
}

?>

i didn't bother to change the code from the last usage, but it should be pretty self explanatory. perhaps i could have used a while command but i'm too lazy to optimize. i just ment to show the general workings of it anway.

I'm sure there are other solutions, but this one worked easiest for me. hope it helps

(edit: blah, < code > tags didn't let me indent)

true. i never bothered to check if it was in any way optimized as i never used it myself.

mixed str_replace ( mixed search, mixed replace, mixed subject [, int &count])

PHP has one of the most thorough sets of documentation i've ever seen, basically all the questions you could ever ask should be answered in the documentation
