I believe what he was trying to say in a rather exaggerated sense was that the best tactical decision to make at the time was to use the bomb, regardless of what the varying opinions at the time were stating.

That said, his assertion was based on fact, and you should stay on topic. MacArthur was, after all, considered a little lax in the brains department... Long on dash, short on neurotransmitters. Like most heroes.

The skies are bright with starlight, and the silver moon rises in the sky, as a familiar (at least, to all of you guys) blue light flashes in the sky and across Yiusi's body. The woman finds herself in the arms of a young man, who keeps himself aloft in the sky through sheer force of will... And a large duffelbag that he rides like a familiar crystal disc.

Janus: "You ok there, ma'am? I figured I owed Schwa a favor or two about now..."

He sets her down upon a nearby building, and grins as he observes her. Yep, she was as cute as Schwa had described. Nothing compared to that girl Grey was always chasing around, but we won't get into that right now. As it was, the favor was repaid. One of them, anyway. He folded his arms. Janus had changed, as usual. Gone was the suit, gone was the armor, gone was the red hat, even his hair wasn't white anymore. Instead, he wore a brown scarf and simple street clothing. Weight lifting gloves, shirt and overshirt. Even his pants were common, right down to the hems, which touched simple street shoes. Aside from becoming a notorious drunkard in recent years, Janus was completely human in appearance. No more heroism, no more psychotic adventures. Instead, he was living the quiet life. At least, until the Grey Dawn came. There wasn't much more to do than that.

Janus: "Darn, you really are as cute as he said... I'd ask you out, but chances are the span of your life is pretty much a blink in mine's eye... Especially if you're human. Oh, and another thing..."

He reached into his bag, and pulled out a small ball... A Royal Ball, actually. Odd, that he would have it, but it did make sense. Schwa gave it to him a while ago. A little bit of time travel, and he knew he'd be able to give it to someone who could use it a little better than he could.

"This yours?"

I read his post... Hell, he was mocking me. Artificial? How would he know?

He couldn't see inside of my mind...

Tick, tick....

The diagnostic statistical manual of mental disorders typically describes Asperger's Syndrome as manifest in people with marked inability to develop social relationships due to impairment in one of several areas... Lack of eye-to-eye gaze and other interactive gestures, inability to form relationships, lack of interest in seeking enjoyment with others, or emotional reciprocity... There were physical behaviors, as well. Motor habits and patterns, a need for sameness and oneness, a preoccupation with the part, but not the whole. Essentially, one's mind moves faster, but when you hit a mental block, you hit it that much harder.

Often, I thought, they exhibit a special skill or talent that's their focus. A savant-like ability. But music? I hadn't read anything at all about music. I'm just obsessed with how people's minds work, after all.

The mind can change. No matter what in it is hard-coded, or what is immobile, some change is possible. I had proven that to myself.

I felt the Autistic energy surround me, bind me, sink into me, and sting. That much of the stuff was TOO much. My 'bone disappeared back from whence it came, and I felt the anxiety and despair of Autism overcome me. In an instant, every moment of depression I had felt since my last breakdown had rushed me, and every memory of the past overtook me.

But there was a real problem with this. A really big one. The problem was asking "Why"?

WHY was the Autistic energy so powerful that even someone who had learned to control it and cast it away so weakened?

WHY did Hunter feel like it was the source of his power?

WHY did a giant paintbrush hurt so much?

This had gotten so ridiculously ludicrous that there was really only one thing I could do. It was time for a Litany of Curses. I closed my eyes, using the despair and anxiety that filled me as fuel for my anger and rage....

"Ok, Hunt..." I said, "What the goddamn hell is up with this fight? Honestly, we've both screwed it up so much, that I'm pretty sure it's beyond simple revival."

I walked closer to him, raising my hand into the air...

"You're hitting me. With a fucking paintbrush. A paintbrush, man. I come into this expecting some kind of martial arts fight, where you use the real skills that you've acquired in real life in a strange form in the arena, and instead I get this explanatory bullshit about how apparently your roleplaying is fueled by Autistic energy?"

This would be a new kind of musical strike... I reared back, and my arm went back with me. My arm swung downward as I shouted...

"We're acting like morons!!!"

The wave of sound that came from my insult was amplified, and sent outward at both of us. I could feel it sting my ears, since I had been insulting myself as well... I was ashamed of the crappy roleplaying job I was doing, and needed to punish myself somehow. I was knocked flat by the sound wave, but that wasn't everything I had to dish out. There was one last touch that followed up the sound wave, as I got to my feet and staggered toward Hunter. I pointed my finger at him, and spoke but two words...

"Especially... You."

There was a loud CRACK as I touched him, ever so lightly, and the full effect of just how stupid I thought this entire ordeal was surged through my finger and hopefully through the man's tank-like mental defenses.

Sticks and Stones would break his bones, but I knew that names would never hurt him.

Grey: "Indeed.... PK Shield Sigma!!!"

As he rises into the air, the gunfire from the apaches is repelled from him, Shino, and Kari, having gotten that much more intense in the past few seconds. He rockets through the skies towards the waiting helicopter, and joins Janus, Kalar, and Garro among the rest of the warriors that had been recovered. He looked down at the devastation, and up at Jarukoth.

Janus: "You're one crazy idiot..."

Grey: "Don't talk to me about that right now."

He didn't want to say he had failed, but had he failed? Bah, who knew. So long as Jarukoth and Ada were safely married. And Kari...

Why Kari? Strange, really, that he'd feel that way all of a sudden. He glanced at her, and back down at his feet. That kind of devastation, all for a wedding. There had to be more to the story than what Jarukoth was telling them all.

Grey: "Jarukoth, you mentioned something earlier about children... I still don't quite understand it. Was that all the reason for this? What would really happen if you had a kid?"

Janus: "Janus, a metric ton, and yes. If you're not gonna die in another 60 years, anyway. Anything else? Particularly something on the Schwartist formerly known as Prince? I got a few hours."

His look is nonchalant; He's keeping his cool. Always gotta. He could definitely use some kind of relaxant, though. If she's NOT gonna die, that could mean something good. Crazy-powerful multidimensional beings did have to form relationships over time.

OOC: Having just read this, I think this will end in a pretty fun way, yeah. And man, what's with the general ed stuff?

I was kinda confused again... Locked soul? What the hell?

"I'm getting kinda tired of this whole "General Ed" thing," I said with a twinge of annoyance in my tone, "I didn't take any GenEd classes in school, I worked as hard as I could at everything I could. Nobody's just "normal", man. I like thinking I'm unique and I have something special to bring to the world, and you're really bringing that down!"

I snapped my fingers, and instantly a heavy textbook appeared in my hands. I'd show him some REAL arithmancy. Just had to hope I had the calculations correct...

"Let's see... Surface area of revolution, fundamental theorum of calculus... Ah, here it is, Kinematics."

I knelt to the floor of the arena and laid my hands on the ground, transmuting up a piece of paper and a pencil.

6000 meters in the air. So my X value should come out to be 6000.

It weighed about nine pounds... That'd work.

So, S = 6000, initial velocity was zero. Mass... nine pounds, converted to kilograms meant about 4.1 kilos. Give or take. Time was the square root of twice the distance divided by the gravity... sqrt-12000/-9.8... about 35 seconds. Kickin'.

35 times -9.8 = -343 metres per second would be the final velocity...

Energy = 1/2 MV^2... That's 235298 joule/metres.... Jeez, it came out to over 52000 pounds of force!

This was gonna be friggin' sweet. I looked up from my calculations to take note of Hunter's demonic powers. He wouldn't expect this. I looked to the skies, snapped my fingers, and waited.

"Hey, Hunter, I dunno what you're doing, but do me a favor and don't move, ok?"

Airplane should be passing over any time now...

Grey: "Ten steps ahead of ya, Teddylot!"

An idea had blossomed in Grey's head far before Teddylot had insulted his mad ninja skills. He pulled out that ever-so-lovely stick of dynamite (his O-Bomb worked on obstacles only, he assumed) that he had recieved from a mystery item earlier, and sets to work trying to make M2 go boom. Hopefully that explosion carried splash damage...

And if he could, he'd crack open another Mystery Item. Only one left after that one...

EDIT: Is this cheating? If it is, my action NEEDS to be registered before Emptyeye's, since that was its original location.

EDIT2: Wait a second, the machines can't be damaged until the generators are dead, I shouldn't be attacking a machine, unless being on standby means they aren't defending the machines anymore...

Posted on 08-11-05 11:22 AM, in The Dawn Finally Comes... (Date: August 13, 2005. 114 Hours Remaining) Link
OOC: Alright, attempt #2... Don't screw this up, let me direct the plot. This is a very short story, it will only take place over the course of seven in-story days. I've got a reasonable plot set down, and just follow it, for my sake. This is purely an exposal story, ties up some plotholes that I've had for a while. Story's been rewritten, and this is it in its final form. You can join if you want, I'd suggest limiting it to people I've already RPed with, as this will make more sense to them.

And now, the dawn comes...

My name, as many of you know it, is Janus. I have a story that I would like to tell you all. Be forewarned: By the end of this story, I will have died. Many of you know me as "immortal". I can assure you, this story will disprove that theory.

I have come to accept this fact as true. There is nothing that can stop this from happening. I can guarantee you, by the end of it you will have said many times "Oh, he should have..."

But this story doesn't center around what I should have done. I've learned that there are so many should-haves in this world, that you can't pick any single one. All you have to do is live your life. Go forward, be as strong as you can...

You see, I've waited to die. I've wanted to for hundreds of thousands of years. But, of course, in the most recent of these years, I gain a reason not to. Figures, eh?

But that's ok, I believe there is more to the story than what happens. After all, I'm still here telling you it, right?

Right....

--------------------------------------

Janus was frantic. 2 AM. August 11, 2005. That meant there were seven days left. He had to move fast. It was coming. It was coming, and he had to get the hell out of his house before it came. He had to keep moving, he had to act now. The wait was over. There were so many preparations to make, and so little time...

Janus: "GREY! GREY GET THE HELL OUT OF BED NOW!"

The young man's roommate staggered out of his bedroom, clad in flannel pajamas... His face was gaunt, his hair short, his eyes puffy, and glasses tilted on his face.

Grey: "What, what...? It's 2 AM, man... You can't seriously want to go drinking NOW?"

Janus: "This isn't about drinking! This is about life and death! We have to move NOW! We're moving, pack your stuff, put it in Satchel, everything must go! Out of the apartment, NOW!"

He began grabbing random artifacts that were placed around the dingy apartment that Janus and Grey lived in, and started tossing them into Satchel. He was fully dressed. He pointed at Grey, and suddenly Grey was fully dressed as well. This was new, Grey thought. Janus tossed him a berry from within the confines of the bag and urged him to chow down. Grey bit into the Ygg berry and was instantly woken up.

Grey: "Wha! That's some strong stuff..."

Janus: "I normally use them for hangovers. Get packing! Axel CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE GET HIS HANDS ON ANY TRACE OF US BEING HERE. Understand? Furniture, mattresses, posters, pictures, TV, everything! Satchel can fit it all easily. Just help me get it inside! God, there's so much to do..."

Grey was dumbfounded. There really was no explanation for this whatsoever... Axel? That name sounded familiar, but he really had no clue at 2 AM on a thursday...

Grey: "Wait, man, I"m not doing anything until I get an explanation----"

Janus smacked him in the face and a rush of thoughts blasted through his head, and in one clear instant he understood what he needed to do. THAT was new, too...

Janus: "No time for explanations, I'll tell you the rest later. Just GO! So much.... We need Star. We need Schwa and Yiusi (definitely Yiusi...), we need Dracoon and Origin, fuck, we need that bastard Dark Phoenix, we need as many people as can show up, we need them and we need them now!"

Grey: "What about Kalar and Garro?"

Janus: "If I'm correct he'll have gotten them already. There's no hope for them right this second, we've got to concentrate on keeping ourselves alive. Two pieces of the Trinity have been lost, I'm not about to let him get the third!"

Grey: "Wait, what?"

Janus explained as he tossed everything he could into the bag. He motioned for Grey to help him lift the sofa as Satchel magically expanded...

Janus: "It's all that bastard Dark Phoenix's fault! He took Kalar and Garro out of my mind, and when he did he took two pieces of the Trinity with him!"

Grey: "Trinity?"

Janus: "It's the all-encompassing control force of the Grey Dawn. A bit like the Triforce: You get all three pieces, you control the world. Get all three pieces of the Trinity, Grey Dawn's yours. You don't need to know about it right now, I'll explain when we have more time! The point here is that Axel can't get the third piece!"

Grey: "Who's the third piece?"

Janus: "ME! God, use your head!"

Grey: "And the Grey Dawn?"

Janus: "YOU especially can't know that one! All will be explained in time, just move! NOW!"

Janus was NEVER like this... Whatever it was that was bugging him, it had to be big. Really, really big...

Grey: "Eh? But if Kalar and Garro came from you, does that mean you're supposed to control this thing?"

Janus: "Like hell I am! I'm not sitting around and waiting for the Grey Dawn to come so I can take control of the world, I'm here to stop Axel from doing it!"

Grey: "Who the fuck is Axel?"

Janus dropped the sofa into Satchel, and leaped over the bag, directly into Grey's face. He was drop-dead serious....

Janus: "Axel is the single most evil person you will ever meet. And you will meet him. And he will try to kill me. He wants the Trinity, I took it from him, he's got two pieces, he can get the third. He just did it now. I noticed a surge of Time energy screwing up around where Kalar and Garro live, and I know it was him. Look, I know this sounds really hacked up right now, but you've got to trust me, there is no time to waste. We need to get to a safer location. We have to last for just seven more days. Seven. Survive for that long and we're fine. He catches us on the seventh day, and we're dead. Everyone's dead. Whole world is dead. Or rather..."

His face looked solemn, he could barely think about it without seizing up in fear...

".....I'd rather not talk about it right now. Let's just pack."

Grey: "I.... ok."

There was nothing to do but that... The men finished their packing in almost no time, and as soon as Satchel was sealed, Janus used him to rip open a portal. Where to? Kalar and Garro's apartment, of course.

He pulled Grey through the portal without a word, and dropped out of it directly in the middle of the apartment. Nothing had changed since last they had been there: Discarded pizza boxes littered the room, several copies of Garro's bible had been strewn about, and there were no signs of a struggle.

Janus: "Damn, I was right. He got them first."

Grey: "What're you talking about? It looks like they just went out of the place..."

Janus: "At 2:30 in the morning? No way, man. There's more to this than that. Everything is EXACTLY as Axel wrote it. There's no signs of a struggle at all, it's made to make us believe that the two of them are just out of the house, which makes this automatically a worst-case scenario. He's trying to stall us. Kalar and Garro are NOT coming home."

Grey: "What, again?"

Janus: "Video games. You know how I do video games? There's one of me for each media type out there. Music, Television, Film, Gaming, anything you can think of, there's one of me. But by far the strongest of them is Axel. The most dangerous, too. Most of us just live our lives in peace. I actually retired from my job, didn't think it was necessary what with the ESRB and modern legal systems. Wal-mart, too."

Grey: "So what's this Axel fellow?"

Janus: "Books. Literature. Anything written down, even if we broke the fourth wall right now and took that, theoretically he could use it. If it's been written, it's his."

Grey looked into the camera for a second, then shook his head and glanced back at Janus.

Grey: "So why's he so evil? Seems like he has enough control over the world."

Janus: "Axel is nothing but inspiration. He wants to be more, he wants to write for himself, but he can't. Not part of the job description. I couldn't make video games, Algus can't make movies, Raon can't write for television."

Grey: "Wait, who are these people?"

Janus: "Old friends of mine that I'm gonna hope haven't joined him. They seemed on pretty good terms with me when I left the Order, so I'm gonna guess things will be ok."

Grey: "Order?"

Janus: "No time to explain, we've got other places to go!"

He ripped open another portal, this one through to Star's humble abode, and sent out a loud mental scream in the process...

(thinking): 'SCHWA!!!! If you can hear this, get your shit together and move, we've got work to do! Bring Tux and especially Yiusi, this concerns them too! Don't ask questions, all will be explained soon enough, just go! And when you find out, make sure Sensae knows too!'

Janus: "Alright, good, so long as he's alive. Star, I can give a bit of a better explanation now."

The lights go down arund Janus as he goes into a story-revealing monologue...

"This really evil guy, Axel, he's coming. The Grey Dawn's coming, and there's only one thing that can stop Axel from using it to take over the world, and so far I've botched the job. The Trinity is the controlling factor for this extreme disaster that's going to happen in seven days. It's made up of three parts. I originally had all three locked inside of my mind, in a place where Axel really can't get to. Only thing Axel could really do was curse me with immortality so that the secret to controlling the Dawn wouldn't die with me, hence all the excessively suicidal missions you've all been on with me. I've tried to die, it hasn't worked yet, and what's worse, I don't even have all three pieces with me anymore. That stupid fool, Dark Phoenix, generated physical bodies for the other two pieces of the Trinity that were locked inside of my mind, the two that are least prevalent in me. They took the physical forms of Kalar and Garro, who don't know who he is or what he's capable of. Now, they're missing. Since I can't die, it's pretty obvious that one piece of the Trinity will always be alive. Chances are Axel kidnapped Kalar and Garro in order to make it so that they wouldn't commit suicide when the vital moment came, and believe me, it is going to COME."

The lights go back up, revealing the night sky and forested area around Star's abode...

"And that's the story in short. I'll reveal more when the time comes. I don't quite know WHAT the Grey Dawn is yet. That's what we've got to find out, and we've got to find it out before one of two things happen: Axel finding us, or the Dawn coming and us not knowing what to do about it yet."

He turned to Grey...

"YOU especially need to keep safe, for expressly special reasons. You guys got that? Nobody harms Grey at all, he cannot be hurt, he takes priority at this time."

Grey: "Wait, why me?"

Janus: "Can't tell you that yet, it's not proven, it's just a suspicion, there's still no time, only seven days, and WE NEED TO MOVE. There are things to do, places to go, people to see. We're gonna need more allies, people who are closer to my old order than any of you are. That's why I've called you all, and anyone else that's willing to help. Right now we need information."

Janus' tone was commanding; unusual, considering his laid-back nature... It was quite clear to him what needed to be done, and he needed to express that as blatantly as possible to anyone willing to help. He pulled open Satchel, and revealed several large pieces of paper.

"Divide and conquer! There are areas that need to be visited in order for the information to be gained. No duking around, the mission is to find as much as possible in as short a time as possible. These pieces of paper are the only clues I took with me when I left the Order, they lead to certain areas of the world where information can be drawn. The point here is that while you guys go out and find my old comrades and give them the message that I and the rest of the world are in danger, I'll be taking Grey with me to do a little information seeking... and maybe find out just what happened to Kalar and Garro. They might still be saveable."

He looked at his fellows. No doubt they had no clue what was going on... He didn't like it, it felt like a waste of time for him, but...

"Any questions? I'll spend the next hour answering as many questions as I can about our current situation. We need to plan this one carefully, every second counts when you're racing against time."

Almost immediately after the two catkids stopped, they had a scythe, a gun barrel, and a hammer threatening them... Janus, Kalar, and Garro were playing a friendly game of "What's Wrong With This Picture", and came up with a pair of cat kids in the middle of New York city...

Janus: "We're not gonna hurt you, this is just a precautionary measure... But what are you doing here? If the timelines are corrupting each other, then that means that you've both got a reason to be here too, so out with it!"

Kalar: "Right, then... DANCE TIME!!!"

Michael Jackson's "Thriller" suddenly begins blasting from the stadium speakers, as Kalar goes into a full set of late 80's dance moves... The song opens with Kalar bobbing his head in tune with the rhythm. The moment Jackson begins singing, he whips his head around and waves his arms in perfect unision with the beat...

The chorus belts out, and he's moonwalking! Moonwalking!

The steps glide into slides, left and right, left and right, and then another twist......

The second chorus! More moonwalking, but now he's got his arms pumping forward....

And the bridge comes, and he's breakdancing! He dives to the floor in a sick (good sick) rendition of The Worm, windmilling into a double-headspin, and then a switchfoot!

The final verse begins, and he's back up, doing flip after flip after flip, across the battlefield and past Sion's resurrection point, as the final chorus hits, and he does one final round of moonwalking.

And then it's Vincent Price, with the final rap, as Kalar is pointing out creepily to random NPCs in the audience, full of the soul for getting down... The funk of forty thousand years truly is within him. For no mere mortal can resist the evil of the Thriller...

Jackson: "YOU KNOW IT'S THRILLER!!!! THRILLER TIME! YOU'RE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE INSIDE A KILLER! THRILLER! TONIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!"

Jiggy, twist, turn and pose...

....And finish with a Matrix. Kalar lands with his knees bent, his entire body suddenly stiffens straight upward...

....and the crowd goes absolutely insane.

OOC: I thought Grey was supposed to be useable once every two waves, not posts? And wasn't it one fighter at a time, meaning Janus is the only one involved right now?

Janus: "Pathetic..."

Using his superior speed and mobility, Janus leapt into the air and out of the way of the flamethrower as it blew past him. The jet of flames hit a nearby lamppost and melted it to molten scrap... No matter how much power that Growlithe claimed to be using, it looked pretty damn hot to Janus.

Grey: "Oi! Watch it there, or we're gonna be the ones getting singed!"

Grey, Kalar, and Garro had taken cover behind one of Grey's high-powered psychic shields... As long as Grey had one of those up, he'd be tapped for power in this fight. There was no way he'd be able to keep up a constant battle while still protecting everyone else around him. His best bet was to take it slow and pace himself... He'd be able to fight eventually. Until then, Janus, Kalar, and Garro would have to do. Grey'd concentrate on saving the civilians.

"Don't forget, there are innocent people here! Keep that in mind while you're flying around and breaking some poke-necks!"

Janus: "Got it!"

And Janus was indeed flying around: He had hung in the sky, suspended by the floating might of his hammer. He clambered on top of it, and stared down at the Growlithe that had just attacked him. It looked like he was going to use another Pokemon move, while he had the evasive height advantage...

Janus: "My thoughts exactly... And no, Star, we've finished that part of the job already. If this is it, we can deal with this. There are still a few people that I'm counting on, I just hope they show up soon. In the meantime, there are a few people you'll all need to visit."

Janus turned to Jarukoth and Khrone. He looked over to Nijote and motioned for her to come over.

"Jarukoth, take your brother and Nijote to meet this man:"

He held out a piece of paper, with a letter attached to it. The letter was sealed, the piece of paper had a picture of an older man, crusty and british looking. Monocle to the eye, moustache to the face, and a narrow squint that suggested a taste for dignity. There were directions as to how to get to him, as well...

"His name is Algus. He was an old comrade of mine, doing to film and television what I once did for video games. He's so old that I believe he's retired by now too, though for different reasons than mine. That won't stop him from being helpful, though... Give him this letter and he'll tell you everything you need to know. Be careful, though. Those directions lead to where he's hiding from Axel at the moment: All I know is that the location is somewhere beneath Hollywood, in California of the United States. Your best bet would be to start searching there, obviously. Ask around for a man by his name, particularly among the filming higher-ups. You'll need to break into a few backlot studios and talk to a few directors (Nijote, this is pretty much where you'd come in...) in the span of about four days, but once you meet him, it'll be cake from there. He'll make the decision himself, just deliver the letter. Oh, and you might want to keep your guard up if you happen to discover his hideout. Some of his special effects are a little more special than others, if you catch my drift..."

Once Nino, Star, and Lunari had joined them, Janus handed them another letter. Attached to this letter was a piece of paper with a picture of a beautiful young woman on it. Her olive skin and chestnut hair suggested greek descent, but one could never tell with multidimensional beings nowadays... That said, she was excessively pretty, and smiling brightly in the picture.

"Nino, Stars, Lunari... Your mission is to find this woman: Raon. Her job was musical in nature... She was the inspiration for nearly every major musical fad of the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries... She's almost as old as Axel, but you wouldn't know it by looking at her. I don't quite know why she quit her job, but Axel wasn't happy with her, and I can tell you right now that she'll have some tough mental defenses around her location. It's pretty obvious where she lives: The clues I pieced together led to Paris, France... Nightclubs and parties are what she digs nowadays. From what I hear she's pretty popular with the beatnik crowd nowadays, so check them out. There might be a bit of a language barrier, but I'm sure you can figure a way around that. Once you meet her, give her this letter, as well. She'll understand. The catch is, you must give it to her at night, and you must sit through one of her performances. This is a little more daunting than it may seem, because the thing about our kind is that we can't specialize in our patron... She can't make music, no matter how hard she tries. So to that I wish you the most luck."

He grabbed Grey by the wrist and pulled him away from his previously sneaking position...

"In the meantime, Grey and I have some research that needs to be done. There are a few places we need to visit, and a few theories I need to have proved or disproved. And we need to go alone. That, above all else, is important. Take these..."

He reached into Satchel and pulled out a pair of walkie-talkies. They weren't ordinary walkies, though...

"These are Intercommunicators. They're capable of surpassing the boundaries of space and time to allow for communication between the units with near-unlimited clarity. There's not much battery power on them, so I'd suggest using them sparingly. Any time they are used, they will set off an alarm on the corresponding communicators to send them out of sleep mode and into communication mode. In other words, if you're stuck, give someone a call."

He stepped back a few feet, and prepared to address the entire group.

"Now then, the fate of the world rests with you guys, so if you have any final questions, I suggest you ask them now while the going's still good."

Grey: "Rulemeister!!!"

Once again, everything stopped as Grey busted down the fourth wall for a few seconds and counted...

Grey: "1, 2, 3... 4. That's 4 actions. One round. Fuck, man, what the hell. And jeez, Logic Bomb has nothing to do with Time, I just screw around with the laws of physics for a few seconds and laugh my ass off at your pathetic attempts to use massively overpowered attacks on me. It's not like I'm going LOL I WILLF REEZE TIME HAHAHA. You're the one doing that, I'm just bouncing that one beam back at you. Take a look at the actions: You fire, I bounce, explosion happens in place that presumably doesn't even happen near me, and yet somehow you're still bombing me? What the heck, I didn't even try to stop time that time, I was just pushing through an attack that already happened. AND I was watching my goddamned Yu-Gi-Oh! Is it really necessary to disrupt a man while he's watching his badly-subbed anime with a can of soda? I swear, you overpaid powerhouses have NO tact."

He continued on with his observation of the traditional rules of engagement...

"Now then, since you're performing four actions this round, I guess that means I get to do the same thing. If we're gonna be turn-based, that is. But I'll do something a little different."

He pulled a few items out of his pockets...

"This here is a 100000 Zenny bank note. I'm gonna let you smack me with that Destroyer 1 attack, and watch my speed go down to nothing. THEN I'll use the four actions you're giving me with your excessive use of power."

He snaps his fingers and an NPC bot appears. Action 1.

"This here's a Stat/Skill Reset NPC, from Twilight Ragnarok Online. Gotta love it, eh? I'll just hand him this and take up my second action, paying for a stat reset. Sir, if you will?"

Stat/Skill reset NPC: "YES SIR. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR STATS IF LEFT UNALTERED WILL NOT RESET UNTIL YOUR NEXT LOGIN."

Grey: "That there's fine, I'll be ok. Now then, all of my stats are reduced to their bare minimums, but I have a crapload of stat points to allocate... I think I'm about level 93 on the server that this baby comes from, meaning I SHOULD be able to hit 125 agility in a few seconds. Allocate the stat points, and we've got action 3."

He snapped his fingers and the fourth wall repaired itself, and Seph unleashed his straightfromtehdeebeegeetee ultra megawave. With 125 + 23 agi (he did have a pretty decent job level at this point, after all), and the flee gained from levelling up, Grey was basically standing in one place one second, and in another place in another second, whistling as the red ki-beam flashed by him.

Grey: "Ooh, that was a doozy of a shot. And since this is my evasive move, I've actually got one more offensive action to take. Which I will."

With a quick flick of his wrist, Grey turned off the Rulemeister attack and returned to his traditional set of Sim-Battling rules. This meant that his "stats" didn't exist at all anymore, making Seph's happy little number schpiel more or less useless. Ya can't drain the stats of someone with no stats.

"Now then, why didn't I do this earlier? Simple: I like to add insult to injury. Next?"

Cracking open another Mystery Item, Grey gets an idea...

Grey: "Guys, if my attack power sucks so much, why don't I just concentrate on reducing the defense of the generators and machines? Smash lasts for at least a few rounds, meaning I can cycle it between the two machines and the generator with the least damage done to it, allowing us to keep those machines in check. I've only got two mystery items left, so we'd better hope something decent comes from that. If that's not enough, if anyone has any items that might help (Emptyeye, I'm eyeing that POW block of yours...), toss them over to me so I can use them and actually be of some use while you guys attack!"

He thinks a little more.... 10 damage from Ziratha a turn on the machines... And both machines had to go down at once. With 1 HP being regenerated per turn, and Kyouji casting lightning on the machines... If those two alternated their attacks, they'd bring down the machines in a few short rounds, and at the same time too, if the rest of us offered some support by holding off the generators while those two did their stuff.

Grey: "I have a tactical suggestion for next round... Emptyeye, use that POW block at the start of next round. You need to go first. Ziratha, you should attack Machine 1 again while Kyouji attacks Machine 2 with lightning. That should bring them to 37 and 40 respectively... Or 34 and 37 if their defenses are too much for the POW block to penetrate. After that, Kyouji should finish off Machine 1, while all of us concentrate our attacks on Machine 2. Just to make sure it works as planned no matter WHAT happens..."

Grey leaps over to Machine 2 and brings his Katana down hard on it for a devastating Smash attack!

"I'll deal a few extra points of damage to it now! And dammit, I know it doesn't sound like it makes sense, but trust me!"
