Heh, pretty neat, these costumes. I'd even wear a costume from Surlent, that guy below my user name I just need to colour my hair green, fetch a black mantle plus hat and wearing that odd robe; the movement of the spell-casting arm I already perform almost perfectly |

Yeah, MathOnNapkins, when people are mentioned, names should fall. It's more than dumb to say something like "one staff member is a moron!111oneon" than to mention the name and mistakes he/she made or the wrong way the person is leading his or her forum. Everyone who has a problem w/ someone from the staff should be able to critisize honestly in a calm way (!), thus no flaming and no direct insult. Or simply drop a PM to an admin you trust, including evidence (e. g. a link to the proper thread) or simply asking the addressed non-liked staff member himself normally. Okay, I'm no staff and I also think we cannot announce something like "Okay, let's demote all staff except most of the admins and put up a new staff!!!", since this also could be seen as a hidden promotion for someone to become an admin (This thread is an exception, since most of the posts were serious ones, but in the past there were threads like that). As for the board: Yes, I'm also more lurking than posting; very often I'm simply annoyed in threads which seem to be like a kind of "image-wars". Someone posts a picture, the next answers something like ("TIS IS TEH W00T!"), an exception might be the videogame-characters in Craziness Domain. On the other hand I also could simply leave the board; but as I know from another board I'm registered for nearly three years on it, that every board has up- and downtimes when there are more interesting and mature users/topics or it is just the opposite. So I hope that is only a short phase which won't last any longer. The new board still is young, many people want to gain their custom titles back, including me (or were simply given them, whyever ), so I can understand the high posting average partly, but to go like "custom title or posts for whatever price, even if I go spamming !!!!!!!!!!" is simply dumb. This does not apply to everyone, of course, but people like Kario (okay, he's permabanned) abused this in a wrong way. I would suggest to make a temporary more "strict" phase where people abusing too often get banned. If a board with lower rules runs fine, it's good, like about two years ago, in 2002 at least I noticed this after registration here. But if this does not help, then the rules should be used stricter, simply. When the troll/lamer wave stopped, they could be lowered again Although I'm not the most active _posting_ member, I won't leave the board just now. We have to manage that phase somehow together. Throw out the lamers and get a normal level back, that should be the aim in the board imho. |

Some monitors allow to change the colour temperatures, maybe something went wrong. You first could try to find a setting 'Restore to factory settings' in the OSD menu of the screen, if it features this option. If you tried all the steps HH suggested before, it also might be the age of your monitor. If I'm not wrong, a normal monitor has an average life of about 40.000 to 60.000 hours until the screen fades and the colours probably lose their brightness/tone. But if you are using a TFT, I dunno know about the average life of the liquid crystals How old is your screen ? |

Originally posted by Randy53215 Well, post count alone doesn't show maturity of a (staff) member, yes. It shows activity and frequency, but also someone could post ten thousand senseless replies to raise his/her post count, making a bad member and probably rated something below 5 from the most members People like FuSoYa might be an exception. He doesn't post too often, but his very experienced skills in ROM hacking and programming are fine and helpful, also he was the one who enabled hacking SMW that good and convenient, so he is the right choice for the SMW Hacking and ROM Hacking forum. There might be exceptions like Acmlm on the old board with 38k+ posts, but usually a higher post count does not tell anything about the intelligence level of a user. Think of people like Evil Peer with low post counters, who find out very useful ROM hacking data and other people of that sort |

Well, some topics will repeat regularly in a message board. Polls like "Which is the best Mario game?" will be seen again and again. Peopleregister every day, maybe the last similar poll like that was two months ago and probably vanished somewhere on page three of the sub-forum index, the new user read the rules and do not want to push an older thread, so he simply creates a new one Of course for us more 'oldbie' people it is annoying, but as for mentioning not to make these thread too often, we cannot do anything. Although I don't post that often in Super Mario Series, I suggest keeping the forum like before. It is an major part of the board, which is set up Marioish anyway, just check the top banner in the default scheme, the rank icons or the gallery avatars here. We probably just would neet some new Material, unfortunately there are not that insane amount of really worht Mario games to talk about, so this is another reason below the first one on top, what makes some threads repeating and trying to "scratch" out every possible option to talk about a Mario game. Similar it is for the FF forum, although it is not the board's theme. Final Fantasy is the far most famous RPG series in the world. Many people like the games, although for me it FF doesn't mean everything must be perfect (there are far better games than the most parts of FF for me, but this doesn't belong here and could be discussed in a future thread probably ). What I rather would suggest would be renaming the forum from "Final Fantasy Series" to "Roleplaying games" in general. There are also lots other RPGs, like the Star Ocean series, Grandia, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, Wild Arms etc. pp, to mention only the most major ones. In it FF also could be posted, as well kept the stickied threads in there. It would be just a simple renaming of the thread title and simply allowing to post any crap about other RPGs in that forum as well. |

I'm using caps lock rarely, only when going really sarcastic in another board Stressing SINGLE words is much faster than to hit the proper key above shift on the left side. But banishing a useful key is useless, when inserting several special characters, e. g. the alternate symbols in the top row of numberals goes much more convenient than holding shift. When dealing with SQL queries, this might come in handy (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 05-14-04 02:16 PM) |

Heh, nice work, Me gonna want be added too, Rudra might even fit w/ the Mario style image I think a dump of the victory frame 1/2 in original size might fit better than the bigger version like my avatar I made longer ago Here we go ^_ |

What do you consider "good" ? Like beating the game in less than 20 minutes using warp zones ? As for me, I played the game quite often, but didn't found out some things by myself, like the hidden part in mini-fortress #2 in world 4. The door is hidden as well "marked" when the P-switch was hit ... but only when I checked the SMB3 guide I was able to find it I can keep suits for a particularly long time, except when it comes to world 7. In the first mini-fortress you have to be racoon Mario to proceed ... or you simply use a cloud on the map to pass it |

What I disliked in Mario Kart 64, was the Rainbow Road ... far too long, boring and with walls on both sides even not that fun and challenging like that track version on SNES Also for the single player mode, you had unlimited continues, unlike in Mario Kart 1. Diddy Kong Racing featured far more challenges, as well as shitloads of new goodies/cheats you got after finishing. Secret characters like Tick Tack and harc tests like the mentioned races against Wizpig made it more interesting due to more changes in return ... But the battle mode in Mario Kart 64 was more than fun |

If your Windows is buggy and has also other oddities since a longer time (like you mentioned it in your post), I'd suggest you to reinstall your OS. If you are running 2000 or XP and don't have a crappy OEM CD, you could try to repair it. I only could think that the keyboard driver is messed up or was lagging; I had a problem on my old comp rarely that Windows "remembered" the last time I used the right mouse button: So I marked a file in the Explorer or Desktop with a left click, I could open the program normally, but after I wanted to click another icon, it rather selected the new one together with the old one. And a right click, of course, showed the "shared" context menu when dealing with multiple files ... and I didn't use Shift + left click If this happens not too often, save your file(s) you worked on, try to reboot with an empty and clean RAM. If this happened too often, as said I'd suggest at least try to run defrag/chkdsk. If that fails, save all your important data, format your hard drive and reinstall your system ... thus removing also your other bugs in Windoze (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 05-15-04 08:02 AM) |

Originally posted by Sendy As well disabling vertical scrolling at all. Sure, most people know that, but sometimes I forgot to disable scrolling in levels I didn't want to have it move and down when climbing or flying A similar way done the "Extra #5" level in FPI's hack was done. At the top of the screen was a blue Koopa with a shell beneath it, assuming trapped in a longer row (moving on layer 2(?), because that's an auto-scroll level and the level "feature" works all tha way ), at the end of the long row was an altered ON/OFF switch. So the Koopa kicked the shell, hit the switch, the shell came back to him, he kicked in again etc. Easy, but genius. You heard the sound when the shell bounced off when you you listened closely But that level was frickin' hard as hell, since there way two types of blocks, acting alternating between "solid" and "air" (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 05-15-04 08:16 AM) |

@Legion: Yes, the Japanese people got the joy to know far more RPGs than us Europeans at least ... only since the release from Final Fantasy VII inside Europe oficially (though there many people interested in FF already ... like me when I got my imported FF VI US copy some time ago ) they knew that theur RPGs also outside Japan/USA can result in hard Dollars/Euros for them ... Fortunately there are other good games like Disgaea on PS2; this one will be even released in Europe in the later part of May Back on topic The question also might be if there should be distinguised between Emulation (GE) and ROM Hacking (RH). General Emulation might go into General Gaming as well ... or merging GE with RH. So I'd go with one thread dealing with all hacking data like offsets, editors and such, and a "regular" gaming forum, except there go every normal questions besides hacking in there; such as opinions to games, help, challenges etc. (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 05-15-04 08:47 AM) |

Not at all, never change a winning team Mario's music usually never wasn't too markable, except Mario RPG and a few selection of tunes (SM64, when being the 'Metal Mario' or riding on a Koopa shell for example), but it was never too annoying In Super Mario Bros 3 I the music rocked, the doomship theme and 'Athletic' (heard in 1-2 the first time) are especially good as the Hammer Brothers' theme. The only thing is the lack of tracks in the Mario games. In SMB1 you had four different tunes for 32 levels, one overworld, a underground, the underwater and the castle theme ... oh, I forgot two other tunes: Rescuing a toad and the short track when finding the princess SMB3 and SMW only had two different BGMs in the upper world but for each submap a new one ... The type of music should stay, as nothing is more annoying than music which goes on your nerves after five minutes NO SONGS!!!111oneon. Finished (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 05-15-04 01:27 PM) |

I'm no ROM hacker too, but simply changing (and finding first ) the value using an editor like Resoure Hacker is noz sufficient at all. More levels mean additional preset level layouts, if there's 100 levels for example, you cannot simply set the max. pointer to 120 and write in 20 levels which are almost non-existant | |||

Apocalyptica - "Struggle" from the album "Cult" I like that track besides "Path" on the first CD, e-guitar beating in the background while soft violins are leading the track. The group mixes Cello + Metal very good, can't get enough from them |

Hmmm ... just one forum above this, and that thread would have fit fine; since this is a hack discussion thread in general and not specifically for SMW I never would play a hack because only of graphical changes. Let's take Super Mario Kart R for example. The track design usually is close the original one, to keep the AI game routes so you can play against the computer as well in 1P/2P GP mode. But there were graphical and track changes too. Added a lot of shortcuts for example (Acid Bath 2), additional "booster arrows" and such; thus new battle tracks But a SMW which is only hacked graphically with no level change at all, is just more than boring I rather play a good hack with no graphic changes at all but impressive new level design than vice versa Of course everyone would prefer to play good graphically and level/ASM/etc. hacked games, yes ... But this only shows the priority I take to what element in playing hacks |
