Screw that, album of the year will probably be dredg's Catch without Arms! I love it so much. I got Necrophagist's Epitaph, because Willowtip mistakenly sent me that instead of Nasum's Shift, so I decided to keep it and ordered the Nasum album again. |

Most of the songs have been written for at least two years. I don't know why it's taken them so long. They did do quite a bit of touring though. Speaking of which, I saw them a few weeks ago, and they were fan-friggin'-tastic. Easily the best live performance I've been to yet, because they sounded so incredibly good. Gavin's voice is even better live. |

O.G., listen to Botch if you haven't before. Essential metalcore right there. Matt Bayles, who produced Norma Jean's latest, produced most of Botch's stuff, and he really knows how to make bands sound even more kick-ass. Check out their album We Are the Romans, but heck, everything they've done is fantastic. They have another album, American Nervoso, plus an EP, An Anthology of Dead Ends, and a CD that compiles all their earlier stuff (tracks from splits with other bands, compilation tracks, etc.), Unifying Themes Redux. Get ahold of whatever you can by them.

Originally posted by Darth Legious How is black metal in any way respectable? It's rooted in murder, church-burning, and all kinds of idiocy. Actually, Opeth is more along the lines of progressive death metal, and considering black and death metal are pretty similar, I wouldn't say that Opeth is "nowhere near black metal." That and many would argue that their first few albums are black metal.

Originally posted by Nebetsu I'm fully aware of this. They have considerable differences too, but they're still two similar sub-genres of metal. Originally posted by Nebetsu SYL rules. Overall, Devin Townsend's solo stuff is better, though. |

CD Johnny Cash - At San Quentin (The Complete 1969 Concert) Chris Connelly - Shipwreck Hell Within - Asylum of the Human Predator Porcupine Tree - Deadwing DVD Jacob's Ladder EDIT (more DVDs): Black Hawk Down Highlander [The Immortal Edition] The Negotiator Poltergeist The first two were about $10 each at Wal-Mart, the last two about $5 each. Man, a lot of good entertainment is sold at Wal-Mart for cheap... Tomorrow, when I have more money, I'll go get more DVDs, and I'll probably get some of those $15 games I saw (that I normally wouldn't pay full price for, although I'm debating whether I'd wanna pay $15 for): Billy Hatcher and P.N.03 (both for GameCube), and Way of the Samurai (PS2). Hmmm... I hardly play my games as it is. S'more DVDs: Desperado [Special Edition] Fargo [Special Edition] The Fugitive The Karate Kid [Special Edition] The Thing (John Carpenter's) [Collector's Edition] (edited by Abnormal Freak on 06-08-05 10:39 PM) (edited by Abnormal Freak on 06-10-05 09:29 PM) |

Originally posted by MorbidMolly Ziff knows. Even if he may be a little too "elite," perhaps. COF is black metal, but they're the mainstream form of it, I suppose, thus why someone would say something like, "Listen to some real black metal." I dig 'em personally. But I'm not too big into black metal. I'm more a fan of the bands that have some black metal flavoring (some of them actual black metal bands at one time), like ...and Oceans, Sigh, and Solefald. Enblackened thrash. Hee hee. Burzum's only black metal album is their self-titled, isn't it? It's got some good stuff on it... I'm more partial to Darkthrone's A Blaze in the Northern Sky. Very good album right there... Raw and nasty. Legion, I find it funny how you'd rag on COF, but praise Dimmu. |

I've never really paid much attention to Dimmu Borgir, so I really can't say anything. But from my understanding, they're just as mainstream and "faux-black metal" as COF is, which is why I find it funny that you praise them yet spit on COF. (edited by Abnormal Freak on 06-08-05 10:35 PM) |

"Listen to some real black metal and you'll see why me and Ziff speak ever so unkindly of them." That post just seems a little condescending. So I guess it almost kind of contradicts your last post...maybe. But whatever. :o |

Soft Cell - Non-stop Erotic Cabaret [UK CD w/ bonus tracks] That is, if Bull Moose can get it ordered for me. Eventually I'll buy the US reissue (that only has two bonus tracks [remixes of "Tainted Love"], instead of 8 like this one does), as it has a different remaster, apparently a better one, although I've read it's still a pretty crude one. (The source tapes could be bad, maybe...) "Sex Dwarf" and "Entertain Me" are such killer tracks. |

Industrial, no. Nu-metal with electronics, yes. For translations that make sense, just go to herzeleid.net. They're a good band, by the way. Very solid. And according to that site, they're already mixing a new album set to come out in the fall. Interesting. (edited by Abnormal Freak on 06-14-05 06:31 PM) |

I like Grohl as a drummer more than anything. Haven't paid much attention to Foo Fighters... I copied my friend's copy of one of their albums, I oughta give it a proper listen some time.

Not quite detrimental. I can think of some good nu-metal bands. Static-X (mostly just their first), Raunchy (kinda like SYL meets nu-metal), Disturbed, Korn's first album, Mushroomhead, and Dog Fashion Disco. SOAD's neat on occasion, as is Mudvayne. But I regress; you'll still think the same way.

Sealab 2021: Season Two 'Bout friggin' time I bought it. Season 3 comes out pretty soon. I'd really like a volume 4 of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, though. |

Their prices are already swell, but if you use the code GOOGLE, you get 20% off. I'd recommend it for box sets and expensively priced DVDs... Hurry, 'cos it only lasts till Saturday. And my brother ordered Samurai Champloo volumes 1-4 (the fourth coming out, well...whenever; sometime), so that rocks, and he also got the recently released double-disc version of Macross Plus (the OVA--he might've ordered the movie too, but I don't know, but I'd like to see it). I doubt it's remastered (like the kind of treatment Record of Lodoss War received), but you know...it'll be cool to have them on DVD and to watch the subtitled version...not that the English dub is in any way bad; I'm actually WORRIED the Japanese language track won't live up to the excellence I've grown up with (and I'm somebody who usually hates dubs in anime). I'm also bidding on eBay on the 2001 Rhino release of The Transformers: The Movie...and since I'm slightly crazy, I'm bidding sort of high. Here's hopin' I get it so's to enjoy it and pour more money down the pot! Also, please please, if anybody has the other Transformers movie CDs on MP3, send them my way!
