Okay, I downloaded EggVine off Zophar's Domain 'cuz Yoshi's Island ROCKS...and making my own Yoshi's Island while waiting for a good super metroid editor (yes, I'm a lazy $#&^, sue me) sounds like a good evil plot.

Except...

When I go to open EggVine, there's a sudden problem than says, "Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered; a file is missing or invalid".

As much as I try...patience and self-discovery elude me.

HELP! Draconis begs you.

All the mechanical enemies, heh. You should make the Wrecked Ship look like the Sancuary Fortress or something

*kicks himself* See all the cool contests you miss when you don't visit often! BAD DRAC!

Alrighty, I know how to work ExGFX for the most part. I have YY-CHR and I know about making my own. The one thing I'm sure is simple (although I've heard tedious) but cannot do is ripping.

I got a screenshot from Super Mario Bros. 3, the level in world 8 with all the bullet bills and piranha plants, the foresty level. 8-1 or 8-2, I forget which. Nevertheless, I'd like to put the background into my hack, any ideas how?

Thanks.

Wow, that took me forever...I had PSP 6 and 7 but had to get the SNES and I-whatever thing as well, and then attempted to understand how to actually do it. One question: Do I patch the IPS to my Lunar Magic.exe file, like I would patch a romhack to an unhacked rom?

Oooooo, neat.

Here's a question tho: is it possible to steal foreground as well as background? If so, I may have finally found out how people make pallettes with rips like Super Metroid SO $%*@ PERFECT...does the rip include the pallette? Maybe I should just try and find out.

...yep.

Oh yeah: Does the ripping process you showed me work with GBA games as well, or just SNES?

Okay, okay. Very happy with SMILE and all (gives a round of applause to Jathys) but how do you change the scroll areas? (those red, blue, green boxes) I have no idea what green and blue do seperately but I'm sure red is "invisible" until you pass into it. I'd like to make a few red or green or blue or whatever, I'm sure it's easy enough, but I don't know how.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks, dude.

*d'oh! Edit:*
Uhh...(feels stupid)...how do scrolling PLMs work anyway? It says like "The Index and the Unknowns of the pointers point to the new pointer data" or something in the little "?" box...but...I don't know what that means...I know they're the red S balls and the arrows but I have no clue how to work them.

This happens to me every so often that I actually have "swings" in which I hack a lot or don't at all. Usually my inspiration to hack again comes from playing other hacks, re-discovering the files or playing video games I can hack (i.e. Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Super Metroid, etc.)

Yeah, so...SMILE's Door Editor...how the eff do you work it?

I can figure out how to link room to room, but not how to link door to door. When I enter a room, Samus appears in the blocks or something and the door she's supposed to enter doesn't do anything. Shist, I think it has something to do with the pink/yellow values but I have no idea what they do...

Hmmm...yeah, I would suppose so...my problem is actually knowing what these things do.

So it's either trial-and-error or wait for Jathys' help file...or his help, whichever comes first

Well, I'm in the process of rounding up some of the ExGFX I've used in my hack, both handmade and ripped. I don't really understand the submission process though; my code, however, would probably be dra, just for convinience.

Awesome looking screens, and from what I've heard, the gameplay isn't to bad either. I'll have to check this out, Forte...I'll edit this post when I'm done playing it.

Edit: Woot, this game kicks ass! Nice levels, sweet overworld and awesome GFX. Speaking of which, if I gave you credit in my hack for ripping them, can I use some of your ExGFX in my hack (can't rip to save his life) and I'm also wondering if you wouldn't happen to have the tiles in Yoshi's Island used in the jungle water levels (jungle rocks, etc.)

Thanks...

There's probably a billion threads on this topic...

ahem...

In one of my vertical levels, some of the background is all weird. There's weird tiles that are animated, light blue, and messing up everything. I don't know how to fix it. Anyone?

Wow, this hack is good, but as mentioned, really freaking hard...and my Metroid skills are a sense of pride to me, but jeez, this thing gives me a real run for my money. If I had an SNES controller it might be easier, walljumping is really annoying on a keyboard...I liked the Morph Ball maze, btw, good job.

Well, screenshot, I'll get more up here as I make them.

Basically this is a Super Metroid hack made with SMILE, primarily if not completely. I'm still trying to learn how to use the door editor, otherwise I'd show you the room from ZSNES, but this is what it looks like when it's opened in SMILE.

http://www.angelfire.com/bug/morth/7D2AA.png

...mmyep. Basically, I'm not going for difficult, just confusing and tricky. Not much is what it seems (which I also tried to do with my SMW hack). If I can, I'll learn some ASM (which is harder than it sounds O-o) and make the spider ball or something.

I'll be back with more screenshots.

Well, yes, I have given thought to that. I'm very used to Mario's 2-block frame, but I've been getting better at it...if you do this room right anyway you'll be in ball mode most of the time. With the bombs and Spring Ball you'll have by the time you reach this room you'll be fine.

To those asking why I did this room randomly: 7D2AA was the one Jathys wanted Metroid Alliance auditionees to edit, I believe...I'm just trying to work out the door editor O-o

*plots an evil scheme to steal door-link tiles*

Dude, that's awesome. I'm trying to make a few nice maps, perhaps those door tiles would help...was it little more than editing the GFX or did you have to mess around with ASM?

Also, does the map screen have capability to stretch as far as SMILE's map editor can go? If so, I can make some wickedly gigantic worlds (my Maridia will cause everyone to riot and hate me, most likely) but of course there's the issue with room count...maybe in a later SMILE you can add new rooms to the game? Perhaps...
